Agreed !!
100%!
If I had to chose a definitive guitar solo it would be from David Gilmour - Comfortably Numb live at Pompei. This one's not bad tho.

@Uncle Baneman You are so right, how could I forget! Extra Bonus, I witnessed it Live in '94❣️🎸🎤🇬🇧🎸🌟🎶👏👏
Dude,I'm 53 and you just blew my mind
Thanks

I kinda prefer the Live in Gdansk one more! :P
The earth is 4.7 BILLION years old, and I lived at the same time as these LEGENDS.
can we take one moment to appreciate the light technicians on this show?
Myotis_ yes they make the song 25x better
Of course! Awesome job there
I was at a show on this tour. Outdoors. The lasers looked to go for miles. I really cannot describe it, in person to a teen it was just otherworldly. I still to this day have never witnessed anything remotely close. That giant ball thing was just unreal.
Saw them in '94 for Division Bell tour Arlington. Smoke, rain, lasers, cold, PERFECT STORM!!! I only saw once but I am sure I got the absolute best EVER concert from the boys. Prove me wrong!!!!!
Lights? You keep your eyes open?
No other guitar solo will ever match what David does here. It’s legendary

Best live solo I've ever heard in my life.
Agreed, just superb.Could listen to this every day of my life...in fact I think I have 😊😊
looks like the trick is installing part of your soul before the concert.
Only solo that has ever wowed me.
Don't let anyone tell you that weightlesness doesn't exist on planet earth. David's solo does it to me every time.
His best solo version of this song. There must have been something out of this world that graced him at that moment
*_The best song on the planet ...... In any version we can listen to a billion times, without getting tired..._*

This is my 4 th today. And it’s only lunch time. True story.
This Song is just the Supreme Masterpiece that RAISES PINK FLOYD HEAD AND SHOULDERS above all the OTHER BANDS. GILMOURS SOLO IS HIS 'MAGNUS OPUS' FAULTLESS.

The guitar just starts wailing at 7:58. I've never heard anything like this combination of technical creativity and poignant musicality. Sublime.
Surreal Borderline Alien🙄😵💫 My face first time hearing that part

It's absolutely beautiful.. but i've no idea what he's doing
It’s from the universe directly! I don’t have any other explication 🙏🏽❤️
No one trick pony, no flashy or speedy effects, no tapping, no showing off, no l'art de l'art - the simplicity of creating a solo and keeping the level so high. There are not many who can play solo for 4 minutes without one second of boredom and leaving the track they are on. Gilmour can!
His one trick is playing the coolest solos ever
And one of the coolest light shows never hurts to watch too
and leaving you wanting more!
Whenever I see Rick my soul hurts, what a man, what a legend…
And one of the best keyboardist for sure
I was glad to hear Rick’s keyboard playing balanced pretty well against David’s guitar and Nick’s drums, though I always wish they would push his levels up a tad more (there’s so much else going on on stage!). At least towards the end of this song the balance seemed to highlight the three Floyd members. I always love hearing Rick and David really play together.
So True
I'll leave this comment just in case to let my son see what his father was listening to♥
My Father died of cancer in 2018. He was a truck driver ever since I could remember (Born in 85, 38 years of age now).. He showed me every country through his job through a truck window. Beautiful Italien women, saving kittens and made our food of his outside fridge in the truck. We listened to Pink all the way up and down. His biggest dream was to show me this concert. Beside my Mom, Pink was his greatest love! He never could afford it. So we bought it on DVD and wore that CD OUT! So thank you for posting this. You just made me travel with my Father from the humble city of Randers, Denmark, seem like it was yesterday. All the way to Italy and back! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!
I think this group is the best band in the world David is the best guitarist 🎸 😅😅😅😅😅
Your father must’ve been a good man! If you’re watching us in the darkness of 2024 we have no electricity in Sacramento. I salute you🙏🏻🥰😊
Blessings to you
Man, I understand you. My father died of cancer in the same way, but in 2009, and I still sometimes listen to pink floyd and remember him, and my childhood, when I first heard it at the age of 7. And now I'm sitting here listening to this song with my 6-year-old son. Thank you for your immortal music.
my father died of cancer when I was 21 in 2006 and I was just starting to play guitar.. I use to practice near him when he was at home and he only listen to a few bad song at the time.. since then there is not a single day that I didn't play something from Pink Floyd or other groups he liked
If I could go back in time to see any concert, this would be the one, hands down.
Me too it was the best!
They are still having concerts
If I had been there I would have been sobbing like a baby. Such is the response in the presence of such intrinsic beauty. I am late to the party when it comes to Pink Floyd, but I can honestly say that this is one of the greatest displays of musicality, musicianship and emotion that I have ever felt, heard or seen. What a band.....
Better late than never fam, dive into the early years you won’t regret it
I was there for 3 nights straight in November 1994. The first time I'd travelled internationally was for this pilgrimage. I cried myself to sleep in a dorm room in the Carl's Court youth hostel. I was incapable of being coherent for days after. 30 years have got behind me, and I'm terrified that I forgot to run. I've cried enough for you and I.

David Gilmore is a guitar God...
Gilmour, please! That's his surname.
If someone ever trys to tell you that there is nothing perfect in this world. Play them this.
The crystal ball opening up: like you can deny that Pink Floyd’s music has any sort of psychedelic influence but imagine being at this show and seeing that crystal ball unfolding like that, while Gilmour wails on the guitar. When you’re under the influence of magic mushrooms or LSD, you absolutely see something magical unfolding. That crystal ball unfolding to reveal a light inside of it, when you’re in the psychedelic mindset that’s like a huge deal, it’s like witnessing the meaning of it all being revealed to you. And the guitar is speaking to you and everything just makes sense. And it’s a moment that you will never get back, ever. It’s magic
Dear David Gilmour, there is no guitarist in the world who can surpass you, you are WONDERFUL...
Greatest song ever. David Gilmour is a genius.
I have concluded that picking the best Comfortably Numb solo between Pulse, Gdansk, and Pompeii is an exercise in futility.
For me it depends on the mood... all three are fantastic for their own reasons. To me, Pulse is the cleanest and most expressive. Pompeii is the rawest and grittiest and elicits the most emotion. Gdansk focuses the most on the guitar and has elements where Gilmour went the most off the script into unexplored territory.
Agreed
There was no Rick Wright in Pompei which did make difference to me.
Now perhaps we could mix all three 25 minute or so
it's all good don't fret
Pink Floyd isn’t a band it’s a portal to another dimension through David Gilmours guitar 🎸
Dave's voice with his guitar can never be matched, perfection
Hands down, the greatest composed guitar solo of all time! No arguments!
It's like there is this solo, and then everything else below it.

When i was around 10yo my abusive step-dad (he never hit me but he did hit my mom lots) introduced me to pink floyd... I hated everything pink floyd for years. Never listened to it and everytime i heard the name it would make me think of him. I'm 39 now and last 4 weeks have been an eye opener, this has to be the most wholesome, healing music i ever heard in my life. I just regret i never truly "listened" to it until now. This is no doubt one of the best songs ever written with the most beautiful solo ever. No way to explain it but it touches every fiber of my body. All those wasted years of hate... Now they don't matter anymore. Don't hate people or you might miss out on something beautiful and pure

David Gilmour is among the best guitarists of all time.
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVS OF THIS AWSOME SONG.
No doubt

Yeah one true God 🙏 it's pink Floyd
I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible.
This really is the best guitar solo of David's career.
I have heard every version of this song and solo multiple times in my long life but surprisingly this one made me tear up. :)
Emotionally, I think the LIVE 8 reunion performance had a bigger impact, knowing that that was the last time the four of them would perform this song. But also seeing David Gilmour appear for this song on one of Roger Waters' performances of THE WALL was quite memorable too! Bravo!
@@davidyoung5114 when was that presentation of the wall with roger and david? Is there a video?
Look in KZhead under Roger Waters-David Gilmour Comfortably Numb 02 Live 2011. Gilmour appeared for this song (+ the finale) during Waters' performance of THE WALL, and freaked out the crowd.
The one that gets me the most is the one from Brazil. The shear love and respect from the crowd of young kids just gets me. None of them were even born when this came out, it is not their native language, and they sing it like they own it.
That solo just moves me every time..
I pretty much cry every time.
My uncle introduced my to Pink Floyd's music when I was about 15 years old. Id started to learn to play guitar a few years beforehand having lessons at school (had been having private piano lessons since i was around 7 or 8, and by that point was at grade 4 ABRSM exam level so was getting on with it quite well). Was going out fishing early one Saturday morning so i stayed at theirs the night before. We sat up the two of us once my aunt went to bed, and he put on the DVD of this very concert and we cracked open a beer. Said to me "once you can play a guitar like Dave Gilmour mate, youve done it". From that point on, i sat and watched the dvd in awe and amazement. He was at Earl's Court when this was recorded and said the atmosphere was unbelievable. I had an idol to admire as far as my guitar playing was concerned.
Seen Pink Floyd 5 times, but I don't know why this solo seems to be everyone's favorite. He's done at least 5 equally amazing renditions in the past 20 years, in my opinion. His ability to find new sounds to create within it seems neverending.
I've also seen them 5 x times including this one and I think this is his best rendition, the Acoustics at Earls Court make a difference I think, plus the actual solo itself (which has had variations over the years) is his best version
Stuart Lamont - As I said, I know a lot of people say this is the best. I just don't see it. While you are mentioning acoustics, I've heard a lot of nice things from the R.A.H.,...
@@samuelluria4744 Agreed, and the modern versions don't sound like someone shot Nick with a tranq dart before he set the tempo.
Believe me being an absolute music fan, spanning decades of music. But in my humble opinion, this guitar solo is epic! The best my ears have ever heard, indeed! Absolutely majestic.
Yes, it is epic! No selfishly proving/demonstration/show of technical qualities. Just a pure flow of emotions. No second of the entire 5 minutes of the solo is wasted. Definitely one of the best (rock guitar) solos out there. Hendrix, Vaughan, Moore etc. have equally great solos but I don't know... this one always catches me me like nothing else!
This is by far the best concert ever !!! The best guitar solo ever !! Pink Floyd is from outside this universe ! it is unbelievable how they can compose, arrange, sing and play in such a way....
I wish so much I had been there. I heard Pink Floyd for the first time at age 19, at that time I'd gotten in with the wrong crowd, I lost my job, my flat, savings and ended up in a squat penniless. That was 34 years ago, I'm free now and listen to PF more than ever, they saved a young girls life back then. I will be forever grateful. 🙏
@6:38 Dave Gilmour knowing that the entire arena is focused in on him, the pressure to not break a string must have been immense, then cuts across to Nick Mason simply "Having It" on the drums, smashing it out!! This has been one of my favourite songs since was a teenager, and this must be the best performance of it they ever did
When David sings or solos, I smile! Just beautiful
Nick Mason is the coolest man to ever sit in an office chair.
HA. HA!
So thankfull I am alive to watch and hear these great musicians. They bring classical orchestra into electronic and produce sounds that lift everyone.

I saw them one time, before they became huge! It was 1970 at the old Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. No seats, just the dancefloor, and I sat on the stage near Richard Wright, the keyboardist! It was something out of this world, like we'd never heard before! Crowd was mellow, but just blown away.... A memory from my youth I'll never forget!
