First time I saw these competitions I wondered if the hitting with the heel of the palm is even allowed. And even if it’s not, how do you control that. I saw someone, during a point tournaments, get kicked in right where the upper and lower jaw connect, and they ended up spitting blood. Some pro fighters end a fight in 30 seconds and see little damage, due to skill. Pro or otherwise, all competitors in slap fighting will receive trauma irrelevant of what they do. • I'm an IT consultant in my 30s and looking to do some MMA and kickboxing amateur bouts. A lot of my training time is focused on _not_ getting punched. I really do not want to get punched in the head unnecessarily. I don't worry about breaking a shin, dislocating an elbow, cracking a rib .. those things heal, even if I'm never 99% with a broken leg, I'll be 98% and can live my life normally. Of course I don't want that to happen, but still, not the worst thing imaginable. But one can't live their lives normally with a traumatic head injury that turns into CTE over time. I'm not even that worried that I end up knocked out in my first amateur fight, but I am worried that I get unnecessarily damage to the head time after time in training. That's what I don't want to get. This slap "fighting" thing is the silliest thing I've ever seen. Even bare knuckled boxing isn't near as bad.

  • Although I agree with everything stated in this video, I was left disappointed as I was hoping you’d get more in-depth (and detail) into the types of trauma that this senseless “sport” can cause. That said, I'm so happy that you released this video. I can't believe people will pay to watch this madness.

  • I completely concur , senseless non competitive, absurd , it’s moronic , voluntary concussions 🤕 no defense allowed , how can any athletic commission/ organization agree to this? There’s a level of disappointment with this and seeing people laugh and be amazed while another human being gets concussed voluntarily without being able to defend themselves , it’s just really stupid and disappointing

It's just so so so dumb. So very, very... dumb.

  • Key things, in normal slap fighting you can’t step into the slap or use the lower palm/heel of the hand to hit the face. This is illegal and your meant to automatically lose the fight. Dana removed the safety rules to make more knock outs.

  • I agree with you! For one, is there a lack of combat sports available for viewing pleasure that I’m unaware of? Two, a fighter should always have the option to protect their heads. Three, slap fighting? What is wrong with us collectively that our bread and circus has come to this? Didn’t we used to draw and quarter people, and make them fight lions and shii? Slap fighting huh? Dangerous and stupid

  • It's really sad because one thing your learn pretty quickly practicing any kind of martial arts is how to avoid a hit, once you take a hard blow a couple times you never want to let that happen again. I've gotten drilled by people taller than me that had a lot of reach and I learned pretty fast how to move my legs and torso and shoulders and head. Even if you move your head as you take a hit it minimizes the power of it pretty substantially and turns an otherwise devastating blow into just a tap. You can take taps for days but you can only handle 1 or 2 heavy shots before it's game over.

    @josejohn9478@josejohn9478 Жыл бұрын
  • This is definitely a dangerous sport, but in boxing/mma even if you can defend yourself, the fights typically stop after someone has taken damage to the point where they can’t fight anymore. So if you wouldn’t allow this, I don’t see why other combat sports would be perfectly okay

    @joshpoi886@joshpoi886 Жыл бұрын
  • It sounds like there should be rules regarding the part of the hand that should be allowed to make contact and if people use their wrist, they should be automatically disqualified for a certain period of time. That would improve safety.

    @pfpchad2747@pfpchad2747 Жыл бұрын
  • At least in boxing or MMA you can defend or deflect the blow so that the force can be reduced. This would mean that most concussive blows in those sports are reduced through these means because professionals never just stand there and eat mind-numbing punches. If they do, then the referees stop the fight.
