  • It’s not really slapping either. It’s an open palm haymaker right to the face. Thrown by big men with full rotation and speed. And you’re not allowed *per the rules* to defend yourself by blocking, dodging, deflecting etc. This isn’t going to end well. It literally is the dumbest thing I have seen in sports ever.

    • Yup exactly. From what I've read, a trained fighter throwing an open palm strike can hit with around 80% of the force of a punch. So they're taking massive hits to the head with zero protection, just a terrible idea.

Slap and forth: "Stay still and let this other person wind up to hit you as hard as they can" Same Athletic Commissions allowing both of these, I can't help but wonder what steps were taken behind the scenes to get the ACs to contradict themselves on athlete safety to this degree. • Great video as always Dr. Sutterer! While your information and insight about the facial nerve is absolutely correct, I don't think this is the case here. There is always a possibility of facial nerve trauma caused from hits to the face like this, but after watching the video it's unlikely that this is the reason why his face is droopy. In the post fight interview, the fighter appears to be still blinking on his left side (something he would not be able to do with facial nerve damage). It's also hard to tell if the left side lip muscles are actually working or if it's just his right side mouth pulling them up when he talks so damage to the buccal or mandibular division of the facial nerve is a possibility, but in my professional opinion (dentist here), I believe it's just a MASSIVE hematoma.

    • @@blue-pi2kt -- I think you misunderstand where I'm coming from with my statement. I am fundamentally challenging the athletic requirement to call it a sport. Is bowling a sport or is it a competition? Is chess a sport or a competition? Is NASCAR a sport or a competition? Is Golf a sport or a competition? I believe NASCAR and Golf are sports. I believe chess and bowling are competitions. I believe slapping is a competition. The only requirement is to have hands that can move horizontally through the air which is a lower requirement than what bowling takes. Yes, there is a greater requirement to win, but the requirement to participate is very minimal. Toughness and willingness are a greater requirement than any athletic ability.

I've always taught her to be a great self advocate, and freely share her experience and never feel shame for others' curiosity, because when they know, they can share the information, too. It would be cool if you did a video on how the actual surgery works, as that's the most popular subject when parents ask me about it. Most folks don't understand how invasive the surgery is, its risks, and how complex the internal equipment actually is. Love your vids!

    @mcseforsale@mcseforsale Жыл бұрын
    • He's going to come off extremely sarcastic but I'm being 100% serious there are a bunch of doctors on KZhead you should find the one that does surgery videos not the one that does sports videos. They each have their specialties for a reason each degree is different. The doctor helping you overcome a sports injury is not going to be the same doctor doing any sort of surgery on your head

  • I do agree that their are alot of dangers with this slap league but honestly this is the same as when MMA first started out. They said it was nothing but savagery now look at. In my opinion it's probably going to blow up just like MMA and it's not Dana whites fault. The people (us) are the ones that decide if this thrives or not and ,as whole ,we like to see this kind of thing. Boxing, karate,MMA, hell world star street fights we tune in to it all and help it grow. Unfortunately I don't think this will be any different

    @GSMnocap@GSMnocap Жыл бұрын
    • Yeah, so how would you propose altering the rules to make it safe without making it something completely different than what it currently is? Oh, I know, Dana White's genius brain will figure it out. Uh, no. MMA modifications were basic common sense that maintained the essence of the sport while reducing risks by getting rid of some excesses. How exactly does that work here? This "sport" has as much skill built into it as taking a dump on the toilet. I mean, a literal pissing contest would involve more skill than what is demonstrated in this event.

    • The difference being with this, they are not allowed to protect themselves. In MMA, the fight is called if you cannot defend yourself. This will never be viewed in the same lens as MMA because of this and I'd put money on the commissions changing their minds on this in the next few years.

    • Or it will contribute to the loss of popularity just as stunt brawls, tough man competitions, etc. helped with the downfall of boxing’s popularity after it’s boom in the 80s. Granted part of the problem back then was the Butterbeans and Alaska Tough Guy spectacles got aired instead of good boxing with limited viewing options while there are more viewing outlets today, but overall press coverage and association, even if tangential,, doesn’t help. Similar with the celebrity youtube boxing spectacles - that stuff hasn’t built a lasting fan base in the past while turning potential fans away. We’ll see this time around.
