  • It's crazy how Dr. Mike watches all of these, understands its medical danger, and still wants to be a boxer.

  • With the shoulder dislocation, that certainly was some great sportsmanship. However, I have seen one match where someone dislocated their shoulder, they were trying to get someone to help reset it but nobody was helping him. I think they were trying to get the doctor to come do it or something. After a minute or so the other fighter came up and offered to reset it for him, allowing them to continue the fight. Now that’s some excellent sportsmanship! It’s a great clip and a wonderful moment in combat sports that I’m glad was captured on video.

    • I’m also surprised you didn’t include some of the catastrophic leg breaks from leg kicks, like Chris Weidman or Anderson Silva’s. • As someone who had many many shoulder dislocations from football, seeing that clip just makes me hurt man. You can tell he’s done it so many times by how loose it is and how he still has movement. Eventually it does feel like you can just kinda wiggle it back in. It sucks too because when I throw anything I have fear of throwing my arm out and I really wanna try boxing or jiu jitsu but don’t know if I can.

    • @@DawnTheEquestrian Are you serious? Oh my God! I knew that many people have died falling from horseback throughout history, but 100 people per years, nowadays? That's insane. Do you know if the head related injuries are mostly either skull fractures or kneck hyperextentions?

      @TeutonicEmperor1198@TeutonicEmperor11985 ай бұрын
    • @@TeutonicEmperor1198 Most are skull related. And half of the injuries happen when we aren't even riding, since being kicked/bitten isn't very unheard of. Most people outside of the sport do assume it's easy, but all of the injuries are one of the reasons we get so defensive when people tell us it isn't a sport haha.

    • @@DawnTheEquestrian I can see how a 500kg behemoth kicking someone to the face with it's metal horseshoe can easily kill them. I was bitten once by a donkey and it was really painful so I can imagine, even though it was skin deep. Only people with low IQ can assume horse riding as easy. I have ridden horses twice and was really difficult. And those horses were calm as senile sheep. Maybe one of them was a mule, I'm not sure. From my understanding, people who engage in competitive horse riding are forced to spend half of their days bonding and practicing with their steeds. So they are like any other professional athlete, right?

When McGregor fell, I genuinely thought he broke his leg and when I found out he did, I was shocked because as a boxer myself, I have had some nasty injuries and cuts but I almost broke my leg too and it was lucky I didn't. • Ooh! Okay! So, I didn't know about the little ultrasound machine for bone healing, but I honestly would not be surprised if its frequency is very similar to a cat's purr! Research has shown that that frequency actually helps speed up healing, which is why cats have been known to purr when injured, and not just when they're happy. Also, watching all this reminded me of a Muay Thai match I watched when I was a kid. The fighter kicked his opponent in the face, and I don't know what he had going on in that leg, but when he brought it back down and put weight on it, his tibia snapped and the bone came right out the side.

  • I was in a serious transport accident in the US Navy back in 2004 (Bus accident, you can look it up easy, slow news day). Both my legs were crushed, one was amputated. The one that i kept was having a real tough time healing due to gaps in the bone where there were missing pieces. Since I was active duty, the military covered my "new experimental treatment" which was...a Bone Stimulator. You cannot expect a 19 year old to continually use a bone stimulator while calling it that. I eventually needed the rod in my tibia removed, had a larger hole reamed for a new rod, and the shavings were placed in the gap at the break, which with some more bone stimulation, eventually bridged together and healed up. Took 15 months, cool to see they have improved, cause it used to be almost the size of a briefcase.

  • The first few times i dislocated my right shoulder it hurt like hell, but i always was able to pop it back in myself. After a few more times it didn't even really hurt anymore, but was super inconvenient since it happened all the time. Fixed it with a very good physical therapist who of course didn't get the labrum back in place but helped me to build muscle to stabilize the shoulder and also taught me what movements to avoid.

    • Can you give me brief list of actions to avoid and exercises to stabilise the joint.. Thanks

      @pushpathakur7842@pushpathakur78422 ай бұрын
    • @@pushpathakur7842 Sure, but i can only advice you to get your own therapist, cause every injury is different. Basically i was told to avoid putting sudden pressure on the arm while the arm is overhead or twisted. For example in basketball, if someone hits the ball against your hand, while it's overhead and you don't have time to flex the muscle to counteract the impact on the shoulder joint. The exercises began with low weight lat pulls, rotator cuff training, face pulls, front and side raises and also mobility training. After i had the basic stability back (after about half a year) i got new exercises to pretty much train every muscle that is connected to the shoulder area. Back pulls, push ups, chin ups, chest and back flys, pull ups, triceps and biceps, bench press, shoulder press and so on, while keeping up with the mobility training. i wish you all the best to heal your shoulder and getting better.

  • I appreciate your videos, and I have suggestions I find your video of Semmelweis, very interesting. I ask if you will do more historic medical videos and put them in a channel that will make it easier to find, or put history in your video name so people can search it easier. Ideas of videos (if you want ideas) Where does the idea of balancing the humors come from, who came up with it and was there a medical event were it worked is why it was widely accepted? Was there another illness theory before the balancing of the humors, how long was that around before it got accepted? Another is going more into how the germ theory was discovered. You covered Semmelweis, but you can do a video on Louis Pasteur and also how Semmelweis inspired Louis to discover the germ theory. I also looked up when the microscope was invented 1590 but the germ theory didn't come out until 1860s, why didn't anyone discover germs cause illness before Louis? Since the microscope was invented before the discovery of germs, why was the microscope invented in the first place, what was the true purpose of the microscope before germ theory? I will post on several videos so you can see this post.

  • Hello doctor Mike, good afternoon, I loved the video, it is incredible all the punishment that the fighters receive. In boxing fights like MMA, fighters cut their weight through dehydration, for example, in MMA a middleweight fighter has to weigh 185 lb, he cuts his weight by dehydrating, after weighing he rehydrates and now weighs 215 lb which would be his natural weight (or walking weight as they call it). I believe that doing this over and over again can have a very negative effect on the body, and in the long term cause many health problems. It would be great if you made a video where you can explain all the negative effects that this can generate.

I will never forget the day when I stopped by my friend's house, to say hello to his mom on a whim, after he moved out of town, to check up on her. In our conversation, she casually mentioned she was experiencing the same symptoms. I immediately took her to the ER and she was straightaway scheduled for emergency surgery. She has since survived cancer, and still thanks me to this day, saying she would rather have died than lost her vision. I say, it was only one eye, and instead, thank God for putting the thought and impulse in me to visit her at random, when I never had before. Bless you Ms. H.

Must have hit the peroneal nerve at just the right spot. Took quite a while to recover from that. And that shoulder dislocation, damn! I took a bad fall in a Judo match and landed right on the point of the shoulder. Popped out and back in, I could literally hear it, it was very painful. Funny thing is I remember thinking to myself at the time, "This really hurts, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be"......

We got separated and I popped my shoulder back in and was ready to go again, that was really painful experience, but with all adrenaline pumping it was still bad. It happened when the guy bear hugged me, my left arm with shoulder was in really weird position. That squeeze from he's side, was perfect. Now I have to be careful doing pull ups, because my shoulder ain't never gonna be the same. It's basically prone to happen again, more easily.
