I've read that cats generally don't meow at each other because they prefer to communicate by low-frequency sounds, and they realize humans don't hear those so they meow at them specifically, so every single meow was directed specifically at Vanessa, every one of them a tailored "pls die" just for her, and I think that's beautiful

This isn't entirely true. It's a relay thing. Some sounds have different meanings than others. Low-frequency sounds I'd imagine are less threatening, but also harder to hear at a distance. Close range greetings. Cats communicate a lot with body language as well, so they don't meow for that reason as well. While yes, they have developed their meows mostly for communication with humans, a lot of Mayo's sounds in this are sounds of distress, not hostility. He's calling for help, not making verbal threats. I'd assume the help calls are aimed at his people, hence the volume of some cats' loud "death cries" they're sounds of "HELP ME, I'M BEING ATTACKED BY A PREDATOR" To clarify, it's not until the brush comes out that he starts actually making verbal threat sounds.

She mentioned in the 1st vid with mayo that the he's a regular but the pandemic screwed with booking meaning he wasn't able to be groomed on his normal schedule. I believe she also mentioned in that vid that the cat is lazy with self care and doesn't take to being brushed at home (explaining why the cat is a regular for professional grooming and why the cat came in the state it was. )

You know, for all his complaints, I bet Mayonnaise noticed that the grooming was a lot less strenuous, considering he was barely in the cone at all and he didn't really snap at you. He also looks a lot better than he did, which is wonderful :) I'm glad he's doing better and hope to see more spicy mayo in the future!

Sorry to be pedantic, but big cats and domestic cats aren't a direct lineage. I think domestic cats are descended from servals and ocelots? Still puts their ancestry pretty high on the predator hierarchy tho.
Domestic cats are not at all related to todays big cats. They come from small breeds of wildcat who domesticated themselves in ancient egypt and possibly earlier than that.
