    • The only non-venomous bite worse than a cat bite for humans are other humans, I'm pretty sure. My boss at the shelter had multiple spots on his finger where bad cat bite infections completely killed the nerves and he has lost all feeling. The bacteria in cats' mouths are similar to what humans have in their body, so when in an open wound, the body does not detect them as bad and doesn't fight them. Since cat teeth are so needle-shaped, the wounds close up quickly and the bacteria can't bleed out. At both shelters I volunteer at I was instructed to instantly go to a doctor even if the teeth just grazed me, since it can get so highly dangerous.

I grew up with cats and have had hounds all my married life (we're at the grandkids stage now, so a long time), and despite any of them being able to flatten me at a moment's notice, they're just chickens compared to my old tom cat! Though try to get a greyhound into an ordinary bath. It's definitely a two-man job and old clothes on, bathroom door locked, old towels all over the place... As we're too creaky to wash our current boy, I use baby wipes to spot clean him when needed. I can _just about_ get away with it (if he has any sausages to distract him 🤣).

  • Back in the early 70's my mother and I decided to bathe "Momma Cat". Momma Cat was cooperative at first. We shut the bathroom door, put her in the tub turned on the water and started to bath her. After about 5 minutes of sudsing her up she had enough. We did get her rinsed of the soap then she turned. First biting, then her claws came out. She clawed and bit my mother and I and we had a horrible time getting out of the bathroom. My mother and I were screaming, and the cat was in a full on attack mode. We made it out with multiple scratches and bites. After drying off and being released from the bathroom a couple hours later she was as sweet as pie. We never bath her again.

    • @@rac1equalsbestgame853 Yeah, my Mother, and Sister once bathed my sisters cat, and, by the end of it, they looked like they’d been in a battle with Wolverine; that was around 10+ years ago, and they still have the scars to show for it…needless to say, it was the last bath she had haha. The same cat once got something sticky in her fur, so I held her, while my sister used a wet wipe to clean off the substance; in the whole 45 seconds, or so, that it took to clean off the the gunk, I both looked, and felt, like I’d been catapulted through a razor blade factory. But, despite her complete aversion, to any kind of bathing by us, whenever one of us was in the bath, she had to be there, with it often looking like she was getting ready to jump in the tub with us; you had to be constantly on guard, because I can only imagine the scars I’d have had, if she’d leapt in the bath, panicked, and then tried to claw her way out, using my body as a climbing frame haha. She was insane, but also fantastic.

    • I gotta wonder sometimes if cats aren’t more like toddlers in that things they would NEVER let their person do at home, they’ll go along with a little better for a cat-savvy outsider. I used to nanny and generally got kids to eat foods that parents couldn’t convince them to try, get ready faster than they would for mom and dad and follow directions better. I think kids and animals intuitively know they can manipulate immediate family in ways others won’t fall for 😉
