Wait, are we saying making weight doesnt matter anymore? What the fuck are weight classes and restrictions for then? Ryan was 3 pounds overweight right. Do you think that was before or after the Steam Room drain? If before than why not steam down 3 or 4 pounds and make sure you get your belts? If after, you can understand how trying to get 3 pounds off after you sweat out ALL the water in your body is difficult enough to affect you next day. Ryan had an advantage. Fighters should weigh the same on weigh in night and on fight night but fight night doesnt matter right. Ryan missed weight. Then admitted he cant go back down to that weight and fight anymore. So he beat a smaller guy. It doesnt matter if it was 3 pounds. Since when do we bash a fighter for losing to a guy that cant make his weight class? Now Chael wants to bash Devin for asking for a fair rematch? Make it make sense to me.

Ryan likely still wins, but Ryan did not have to kill himself to lose weight and then re-hydrate. Instead, Ryan was able to pack on as much weight as possible after having not going through an initial cutting phase.

Chael needs to stop talking about boxing weight classes until he knows what he's talking about. There's no limit to heavyweight in boxing. Never has been.
The difference between this and the UFC is that in the UFC you have no agreement to fight if someone misses weight, and if you take the fight you're getting a percentage of hundreds of thousands of dollars which won't even compensate the difference between a win and a loss
I agree 100%. Haney wanted the extra money and made the deal to still fight because he thought he was good enough to beat him. At the end of the day, he was not good enough to beat him. You can’t make agreement to still fight and then make excuses after. If you really thought weight was a problem then you would not have fought. But at that point he either thought he was good enough to still win or he didn’t care if he won and wanted the money

No he couldn't have, not for 3 pounds. Ryan had the choice of coming back in 30 minutes to hit the scale again or pay the fine and not get the belt if he won. Ryan was also not stripped down for the scale he even had hitop sneakers on.

This is true, Ryan had to make the weight before the official weigh in, But they both knew he wasn't make the weight so they scripted the whole 500k per pound exchange, this is a very severe case of cherry picking gone wrong, as a bettor this was ez money the Odds didn't reflect what was on paper, goes to Show Vegas speculates just like any bad gambler, props Ryan.

Losing weight always take a bigger toll on the body than putting on weight. Haney, a larger framed boxer, weakened his body and in the 24 hrs after only has time to replenish the lost fluids. Ryan on the other hand didn't go through the struggle of losing those final 3 pounds. Still, haney waved that excuse by taking 500k per pound over deal

@@johnortiz566those final few pounds are the most affecting and hardest to lose and the exact reason Garcia did not complete his cut. He knew fighting at the agreed upon weight would greatly affect his chance to win. So was Garcia's 3lb advantage massive? No, the 3lb difference is negligible and the real issue is that he did not complete a full cut like his opponent. Preparation is half the fight and Garcia did not believe he could prepare for the fight and fight Haney on equal terms. It is what it is, he beat the brakes of Haney but he just won't get any belts for the victory.
3 pounds had no effects on this fight. Haney is known to way 160 to 165 on his fight days both fighters hydrated and were ready to go and the better man won. Haney still said he was going to knock him out. Commentators and others still had haney winning the fight but now that he got his ass kicked they want to blame 3 pounds lol if haney won those 3 pounds wouldnt even be talked about.

I have personally seen multiple matches where someone gets hit in the nads and they tell the ref they don't need anymore time to recover. and they go on to win. Maybe the stat is from bad eye pokes. This is cope. Whatever the physical cost is the final 3 lb of a weight cut is is the amount by which Garcia cheated. It's not about the pounds he brought into the ring. It's about what losing those pounds was supposed to cost him physically that Devin Haney paid but he didn't pay. The advantage Ryan Garcia used to cheat is very comparable to any steroid advantage imaginable.

Now that we know he trolled the world and we all fell for it, it's safe to assume that the weight miss was a strategic play as well. If Haney's camp didn't believe he was mentally compromised they might not have let him get away with it. I'm guessing he learned from the Tank fight that he wasn't able to perform at his best after the cut and he didn't want to do that again. Clearly he cared more about the win than the belt, and he fcking did it.

It certainly can. If you have never cut a lot of weight it might seem meaningless, but the last 5ish pounds is usually the most damaging. It is a big part of why guys miss weight within a few pounds. In lower level competition it is frequently because of poor discipline, but at elite levels these guys fight at dangerously low weights far too frequently.
