I'm very happy to invite you to visit my private apartment in the Chateau de Lalande!
I'm delighted to welcome you into my home, and to take you on a personal tour. There's so much to see that I've had to split the tour into several parts. This week I'll show you my private apartment, taking the the entire first floor in the central wing of the chateau. It's very much a work in progress, and I'm about to start a major transformation of one of the rooms - so this is a good opportunity to show you its 'before' state!
It's the moment we've all been waiting for - a full tour of the Chateau de Lalande! I'm sorry that it's taken me so long to do this, but I never felt that the chateau was fully ready! But I've realised that I'll always feel that way, and part of the beauty of a historic home like this is that it's always a work in progress. Restoring Lalande is the creative passion of my life ❤️🏰❤️
Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
This weekly vlog follows the adventures of chatelaine Stephanie in her French 16th century home, the Chateau de Lalande, in the heart of rural France ❤️
A very special thank you to all of you who have become Patrons of the Chateau de Lalande. As you can imagine, your help means more to me now than ever. Because of you, I'll be able to keep living at Lalande and making videos even though our chambres d'hotes income has been decimated by the coronavirus. I’ve been overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity, On behalf of this beautiful chateau that will continue to survive and flourish because of you, thank you!!!

  • Hi Stephanie, I think the reason why "doing it ourselves" has gained 100K subscribers in 5 weeks is the fact that they have the word "DIY" and "baking" in their description box. I am guessing that is the reason why I got "doing it ourselves" in my youtube feed in the first place. I like DIY and baking videos, and a lot of people with me. I think you should try and add the word "DIY" "restoring" " renovation" "construction" "cooking" "castle" (instead of chateau), "baking" and "fun" in the fixed description box below your videos. That will allow the algorithmic recommendations to show automatically your content to people who are interested in those topics ? It is worth a try. I really like your content a lot. And I am in admiration of how creative you are in finding ways to restore the castle and enjoying life while doing it. And with all the people in the vlogs, It is like watching an episode of "Friends" 😃 Keep safe. Greetings from Belgium.

  • I love the whole chateau vibe, started with Michael (Doing It Ourselves) then found Stephanie, both of whom are awesome. I've checked out a few others and they don't hold handle a candle to this team, not by a long shot. Michael and Stephanie have STYLE, they know how to design and decorate spaces that are true to the chateau's period charm. They are incredibly talented and have engaging personalities that just draw you into their world. I see big things ahead for this dynamic duo!

    • I completely agree with you but in reverse, I discovered Stephanie first and then Michael. I shopped around for other people restoring a château but they weren’t up to their standards. These two have a wonderful chemistry and you can just feel their love of what they are doing.

  • Ha Ha - "very useful for Valentines day" - Loved that and laughed so much. Oh and by the way I'm constantly surprised by your Fathers paintings, they are so good, first of all they are so well painted but also the joy in the wonderful colours and forms he created are fantastic. You should make a book of his paintings one day - I would definitely buy that.

    @ornleifs@ornleifs4 жыл бұрын
    • I agree---his paintings are such a joy to have around!! I am a painter also, so I especially understand that having his 'Presence' around all the time has to be a major comfort. I lost my only child 5 years ago, but before that I always imagined that he would have many of my pieces in his home to remember me by. Your father was very gifted and not at all afraid to show his immense JOY. I have that too, that's why I am so moved by his paintings. Perhaps one day you will put all his wonderful work in a book so all your viewers can see in one place the art of a special father.

I’ve heard from interior designers that the nicest homes have meaningful pieces (art, décor, furniture) that are collected over a lifetime vs. the plain cookie cutter instant decorating seen today in many homes. Your château is especially wonderful because you collect and display what you LOVE and your personality really shines through! Another delightful vlog Stephanie! 💕

  • My road to subscribing was a bit long... I initially got the "Doing it Ourselves" videos on my recommended Home page a few times and eventually thought... fine, I'll check it out and had never watched vlogs like theirs (a chateau!) before but I HAD searched and watched series of people "renovating" historical or old homes so I completely agree with the algorithm idea about keywords making a difference. I clicked on your channel because of your collab with Doing it Ourselves but I was a little lost at who was who, and what was happening. I then started to get your videos rec'd on my home page and thought I'd try again to see if I like the channel. ...What I found SUPER helpful was actually finding your 'Sundays at the Chateau' playlist and watching it from the very beginning. I was hooked and subbed once I had a better idea about who you were, how the property had come into your life, and what your ideas for the property in the future were. You're also full of so much historical knowledge! ...I don't know if any of my shared experience helps with understanding your channel better from a new viewers point of view 🤷‍♀️ ...but yes, keywords are big and watching your "Sunday's at the Chateau" playlist was key for me. 😊🙌🍾

Our children , & grandkids never knew. I adore Isabelle, & think a beautiful montage of her, mixed with Michael’s talent for music, would be AMAZING ‼️ She has said some of the funniest things. Make sure to include those. ✅ Early pictures. Her life story, meeting your Dad. Document her. She is a fascinating woman. I imagine her in a different life as an actress on Broadway. She works so hard, has amazing insight to life. Do it NOW, do not wait. My Mom died 2 yrs ago. Love to see a live stream interview of Mummy. Loved the episode of her in the kitchen fussing with that machine.🤣😂 Name escapes me. Her skipping was so cute. She reminds me of my “Little Mammaw”, who was 4’9” tall, & dynamite. So hilarious & full of life. Thank you both so much for sharing your family with us. ❤️🇺🇸

  • I have just watched this a second time, the first time was probably soon after it was uploaded during the height of Cv 19. Now that I have watched your videos for most of 2020, rewatching this I understand so much more about the people of Lalande and this wonderful place you call home! I am so glad I took the time to rewatch! It all makes much more sense to me now!

  • Just beautiful! My bedroom is my favourite room in my house. I watch your vlogs while drinking my morning cup of tea in bed. I have a silk bed jacket I wear or if really cold a fur stole. My husband brings me my tea cup, pot, strainer and milk jug on a gorgeous little tray. I can see one of my kittens climbing up a ladder out of my window, very funny! Thankyou for the tour and to Mummy🙏❤️

  • This is just lovely. You remind me of my daughter, who loves fabrics and creating beauty. I am also trying to restore a villa in Tuscany, not nearly as old or as grand as your chateau. Thank you so much for your glorious content.
