    • Off eye it was one of his worse performances and Im sure team Floyd agrees and switched to Floyd Sr as Roger was old......Floyd couldnt break Cottos guard, and off eye from round 1 Floyd didnt like the thud and physical strength of Cotto, usually Floyd is able to bully guys in the clinch even Canelo he did that but vs Cotto he couldn't move him....The fight that showed me he wasn't razor sharp with his straight right no more or lost confidnece in it, a older pulling the trigger thing, Floyd showed age and wrinkles the first time in the ring that night....And even threatened to retire after the punishment Cotto caused him. Brutal match a war both ways

      @epic6434@epic6434 Жыл бұрын
    • @@Raja-nh8jr To begin with, the best opponents he fought were all available for many years before Floyd fought them. Pacquiao, Oscar, Mosley and Cotto were available but Floyd didn't fight any of them until 11 years after his career began. It took him 14, 16 and 19 years respectively before he fought Cotto, Mosley and then Pacquiao. You don't have to try to make excuses for him in each case because in general, it's suspicious that the best all came late in his career. Who did he duck? Paul Williams, Vernon Forrest, Joel Casamayor, Margarito, Joshua Clottey, Erislandy Lara, Tim Bradley, Kostya Tszyu, Shawn Porter and all of the newer welterweights like Thurman, Kell Brook, Danny Garcia, Terence Crawford and Errol Spence. He could have challenged himself by fighting at least one or two of these guys. The self proclaimed GOAT should have to do something to prove it, but he didn't. There are others over the years that Floyd carefully avoided, choosing guys like Victoriano Sosa and Henry Bruseles instead of the top shelf guys. Before fighting Oscar in 2007, look at the names on his resume. He was well established at or near the top of the p4p list before fighting Oscar, yet these are his 8 fights before Oscar; Victoriano Sosa,...Philip N'Dou,...DemarcusCorley,...Henry Bruseles,...Arturo Gatti,...Sharmba Mitchell,...ZabJudah,...and Carlos Baldomir. There are only a couple of names that are familiar to most on that list. Even those guys were fought under suspicious circumstances. When Floyd fought Zab for example, Zab had just lost to 35 year old Baldomir, making him compromised. Rarely does a top guy fight someone that just loss to a lesser opponent. Floyd did that many times. He fought Corley just after he lost to,......Zab Judah. Henry Bruseles last fight was a draw against Enor Julio. Victoriana Sosa just fought to a draw against Lamar Murphy. Justin Juuko just lost to Antonio Hernandez. Sharmba Mitchell lost to Kostya Tszyu. Victor Ortiz last fight was a draw against Lamont Perterson at 140 lbs. Why did Floyd fight Ortiz right after Victor couldn't beat Peterson in a lower weight division? In 17 of his last 40 fights Floyd fought an opponent that lost or had a draw in his last fight or the fight before. Some lost several fights in a row. Floyd also fought 6 guys who fought exclusivley in their own country prior to fighting him, meaning they were on a lower level. He also fought several guys that were smaller then himself. Marquez for example had almost 50 fights at 130, only 2 fights at 135, then Floyd fought him at 147. Juan never fought above 135, there were a dozen or more good welterweights waiting in line, but Floyd chose a super featherwight/lightweight instead. Embarrassing. There were several others that fought smaller all of their career until they fought Floyd. Some had just one fight at 147, like Ricky Hatton. 3 fights before he fought Floyd at 147 he had a single fight at 147 but his other 44 fights were at 140. Hatton was a smaller guy most will tell you. Guerrero fought at 130, then a few fights at 135, then straight to 147 for just 2 fights, then he fought Floyd. Under those circumstances the guy that just moved up is still considered a smaller man. Sharmba Mitchell had more then 50 fights at 140, then fought Floyd at 147. Floyd's career is not what he claims it is, it's littered with cherry picked opponents. The truth is that Floyd fought a low number of fights overall. Of the 50 fights he had, maybe 10 or so were fights against good opponents who weren't compromised in some way. Many believe he lost some of those, including against Oscar, Pacquiao, Maidana and Castillo. That's why Floyd's career is more of a sham to me than anything. He went out like a dud by fighting Berto and Conor Mcgregor, a fight that shouldn't even count on his record.

      @BigBoss7777777@BigBoss77777774 жыл бұрын
    • @steveninthe He's without a doubt in the conversation. However, my gripe with considering him the best over names like Ali was because Floyd's generation of competition was no where even remotely close to as grueling as the heavyweight divisions were of old and anyone who truly knows boxing knows this to be true. Also, back in Ali's days, fights were longer which meant more conditioning and more room for danger. Anyone saying Floyd is overrated is an absolute fool and should go back to sleep, but I don't think he's the best ever. The heavyweight division in the 70s-80s were just flat out more competitive and Fighters had much higher hills to climb.

      @jonu5505@jonu55054 жыл бұрын
    • @Bohanable Bo I understand where you are coming from, but it's no mystery how much more dangerous the heavyweight divisions are and technically, you have to be more sound in a battle where every single punch has absolute game changing power. I'm not sure how long you have been watching boxing, but Floyd's competition was and never will be at the level that the heavyweight division was of the 70s and 80s. There is a reason that era was the golden age of boxing. Every match was a blockbuster event. I respect the hell out of Floyd and I will repeat myself again, he was one of the Greatest there will ever be, but we need to acknowledge facts.

He probably could've won a round or forced a couple of draws. He seemed like he was taking too long trying to figure him out or was hoping he would get really tired in the later rounds but either way he paid the price and lost by alot. Still Cotto consistently kept great pressure on Maywheather and he showed alot of heart and determination with tremendous toughness and a confident attitude throughout the match even when knowing he was gonna lose a round and then eventually the entire fight itself. Maywheather was literally perfect, the offense and defense from start to finish.

  • This is IMO the best version of Mayweather in the 2nd half of his career. Economical with his work rate. Throwing sharp punches. Mixing it up. Controlling the distance with his jab. Pot shots from the outside. Cotto was kept off balance most of the fight. Mayweather just has a knack for drastically slowing down the work rate of his opponent with movement and his offense.

  • a few things from this fight 1. floyd didnt lose a round until round 6 2. cotto's flurries were not landing they were glancing off of floyd's shoulders all night 3. floyd LOVES the ropes, its important to understand that floyd is like a spider, he lures guys into the ropes and they get their 3 punch flurries off and he still continues to counter and jab coming off the ropes, those wild flurries leave them open to be countered and jabbed to death, most guys just cover up and wait for the other guy to punch himself out. floyd punches out of the corner and off the ropes. 4. floyd could have taken cotto out probably in the 10th, cotto was gassed and it was evident in round 12. 5. this is probably floyd's best fight that showed his ring IQ, skill and ability to be an aggressive fighter whenever he wants, floyd used maybe 3 different guards in this fight, when he is in high guard he is LETHAL. when he is aggressive he lands mass amounts of punches, his punch timing is impeccable. 6. he worked the jab all night and it kept cotto at bay and made him have to fight a "maidana" style type of fight trying to smother floyd but that never works. 7. floyd is probably the best fighter of all time that can fight offensively in a defensive position in the corner or on the ropes, he can basically fight in a phone booth. 8. if you think this fight was closer that 10-2 you're a DCAF.

And Manny Pacquiao fought him at 147lbs and 8oz gloves. At that point Oscar didn't have a fight at that weight class in 10 years. When Floyd wanted to fight at 147lbs Golden Boy said hell no.

You have to keep pushing forward and ignore them all. Because like you said, it's almost guaranteed that they will hate you. But you can't control their fear, only your own. So screw them, and succeed regardless.

  • Cotto's fan here... But loved the way Mayweather apprached this match. He put more power behind his punches, was willing in the exanges, was balanced on attack and defense. Some say that this wasn't a typical masterpiece ny Floyd, or that he took some unneccesary punches but, he was fighter-boxer-genious that Night. After that fight, no doubt that he would remain undefeated the rest of the way. Floyd so damn great that no fighter 175 under could best him. Just thinking... How about a young-prechamp André Ward and Floyd bout? By the way, the round girls were of extreme quality.

Also, because Emanuel Augustus, Diego Corrales, Victor ortiz, zab judah, Hatton (undefeated at the time)not past their prime. Went up in weight to fight Oscar and Cotto. Shane Mosley wasnt past his prime. Canelo and Maidana also were not past their prime. It just doesn't make sense. Give a guy credit for what he has done. 3.
