  • If it's any consolation, Clement. You've made some of my favorite Let's Play videos I've seen and I routinely go back and listen to your Sonic videos while I'm working because your commentary in them were both humorous and informative. Some other standouts to me were your playthrough of Banjo Kazooie and Goemon 64 because I have nostalgic bias for them and Megaman X6 for obvious reasons. It's a pity you're going to be quitting the scene since you're one of the first Let's Players that I subscribed to. But it's understandable. I've gotten burnt out on a lot of things as well over the years. Nothing is stopping you picking it back up if you reconsider though. Good luck with whatever thing you decide to do next.

I think that really shows how Lets Plays have died over the years. Back when watching people play games was a novelty and new and cool, you cared far less about what you were watching. But as you grow up and time is more valuable, you just want the content you know and love and it's way less appealing to take chances on stuff you don't care for already.

  • Your Let’s Plays were my childhood, Clement. The footage of your past LP’s tugged on the heartstrings because I was there for all of them, watched every episode, appreciated every detail, and felt every bit of love you had for the games you shared with us. They were objectively the best Let’s Plays to be found, and subjectively, you are the reason every single one of your videos are great, scripted or unscripted. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Clement, for everything you have given us over the years. That being said, I want you to disregard every cope in this comment section, and even some that you mentioned. You were absolutely right that it’s possible some of your viewers are selfish, and I hope you are able to separate the obligatory comments from the sincere ones. I know you have selfish viewers, because I am one. I did not watch Steambot Chronicles. There is probably a point in time I can scroll back to and see when I fell off. My point being, that your viewers and the world around them has changed. Many of us, myself included, have grown up since our hopping on point. The world around most of us has changed to become real and unforgiving. Where we once had the energy, enthusiasm, discipline, and time to enjoy and appreciate your amazing Let’s Plays, most of us now are weaker, burdened, and dare I say it, selfish. We now would rather your LP’s be a happy memory than watch them. We have been coddled by the changing landscape to prefer an easy handheld tour through a scripted video rather than go on an adventure through a game we may or may not like. It pains me to say all of this, Clement. I feel horrible having changed so much to your detriment despite you remaining the same Great Clement, having only changed for the better if anything. I’m sorry, Clement. We love you, brother, and again, thank you. I think I’ll go catch up on your Let’s Plays now and start returning the favor. If anyone here reading this is a real one, you would do the same.

    • EDIT/DISCLAIMER: After a quick look at the channel, I can confirm that I only recently “fell off” at Luigi’s Mansion because I didn’t want to spoil the game for myself. I doubt my one-viewership would have been enough to change Clement’s mind on the whole thing, much less Steambot Chronicles, but that will never change the fact that Clement’s LP’s (all of his content actually) are an absolute joy, and that we should all be ashamed of ourselves. This man is a treasure and he never deserved to flop. Godspeed, Clement. You will never not be Great.

  • Yeah, KZhead's hard to understand with the number of subscribers and the viewcounts. It's all over the place with me too, getting 3% or 300% of my subscribers to watch the same kind of content depending on weird factors. Don't worry too much about it and just make what you want to make, which you are going to do now, so right on. As for me not watching Steambot Chronicles yet, I tend to wait till the entire run of let'splays is done so I can binge them all in one go. If that helps.

  • Doing lets plays on obscure games was always going to result in low views. Most people watch lets plays to see other people's thoughts on their favourite games, if barely anyone played it in the first place then that's going to be a very small portion of your audience. It's not a coincidence that games with massive passionate fanbases are the lets plays that get the most views.

    @Flipendo64@Flipendo64 Жыл бұрын
    • Well said. The goemon game for the N64 wasn't very well known over here in the States so it's not that surprising the views for it are low.

      @swordofll9599@swordofll9599 Жыл бұрын
    • Yeah, don't know why he was surprised that Steambot got low views when i'm sure a lot of people only find out about the game when he started to do a let's play on it. This is why a lot of let's players do playthroughs on well known games, you get much more of an audience if people have prior history with the game.

  • It's been a fun ride, good sir. Granted, I wasn't too interested in Steambot, I think the last LP I watched of yours that wasn't Sonic related was Double Switch. I think the problem with Let's Plays is that it's a massive commitment to get through a game longer than 7 or 8 parts. That's a lot to go through. As someone who has been on KZhead as long as you, I've always had a firm belief that the best video projects are those you're most passionate about. If you feel most happy doing video essays on why you love a game, that's the way to go, and you have my support from here. It's better to take your time with one video and pour your heart into it than do several quick videos you're not fully committed to.

    @Gondarth@Gondarth2 жыл бұрын
  • I frequently say you’re the best let’s player on KZhead. I always rolled my eyes when folks say game grumps is a “let’s play” when it’s two dudes just farting around when your content goes above and beyond in organization, gameplay tips, development history, talking about the music mid playthrough and sometimes muting your mic to just turn the jams up. The Eggman Easter egg in every video where a boss is called “egg” something. Then there’s the antichrist of let’s plays darksydephil. Complete polar opposite. Anyway, you’re the best clement. I hope you can be the one to rejuvenate game reviews back to the glory days.

      @ColdEmperor@ColdEmperor Жыл бұрын
  • Yeah, what it comes down to is that let's plays are not only a massive time investment to create, but also to watch. People such as myself who grew up on the Sonic and Mega-Man content you produced loved you because you were covering things that we also loved. Niche' material such as Steambot Chronicles might resonate well with some of your fans, but ultimately we have busy lives as well now, and a let's play series with an upper double digit video count on something we've never heard of is just not appealing or viable. That's why I am so glad you are self aware on this and willing to embrace the change to scripted content. Releasing a tight, thought provoking video on something that is 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or even an hour long will resonate so much more with people simply because it's something that can captivate, entertain, and potentially even educate, while remaining comfortably at the bookend of any given day. Good luck to you and your future, Clement. I know I'll certainly be tuning in to see what you have to say.

I'm older, I'm in college now about to move into Uni, and honestly scripted videos are just better because they're like podcasts in a way, somthing to put on and switch your brain off and just listen to.

I don't know if the words I'm looking for is 'passive aggressive' or not, but it comes off as almost agreeing with how Clement was feeling in the depressive phase. • That's part of what I said in my own comment above. Time and responsibilities change people. And forget the commentary of Let's Plays, the mere act of even *recording* the game alone takes enough effort on its own. Out of curiosity, I did my own non-commentary playthroughs on my own channel last year. It was fun at first,..... until I tried playing Mario Lost Levels, and promptly got burned out when I realized the footage was a waste due to the audio being out of sync. *Which meant I would've had to play the WHOLE thing all over again.* And I have not attempted recording another game sense.

  • It doesn't help that youtube's format has pretty much alienated the very thing that made it popular. Sure, maybe it's not all attributed to the algorithm but its a major obstacle that has caused a major roadblock. If you're not late-night tv or putting mentos in your coke, the algorithm just doesn't favour you. I've been seeing it happen to all varieties of channels such as music, art, gaming etc. Watching your rumble Roses playthrough and the very little views it got showed me that the "let's play" formula is no longer going to be able to work in the battlefield of this new youtube compared to the previous area. Even Brainscratchcomms seems to be having this problem. Needless to say, I started with your sonic and I'll always continue to watch your content even if I rarely comment.

    • Well that, and Let's Plays are often times a rush to put gameplay vids for newer games, which can lead to content burnout. That and older games, unless they're pop culture juggernauts like RE4, tend to be cast aside in terms of viewership. I mean my Final Fantasy 1 NES let's play is a sign of that... I always thought steambot looked really cool but I didn’t start it since I’m very ADHD and I need to be in the right mindset before I get started watching something. *EDIT:* Oh good, you said you will keep the old videos, I’m glad.

  • Clement I’ve been watching your Let’s Plays since I was in middle school and now I’m a freaking Junior in college. Yes I admit Sonic and Megaman were my favorite LPs of yours and the things that made me stick around but I also loved the occasional Let’s look videos you did of certain games. I’m happy to see you still have that passion to create content when so many I used to watch have all but disappeared from the internet. Wishing you the best man and I’ll be on The Great Clement train for as long as it goes.

I remember even messaging you here on KZhead (back when that was a thing) to thank you for the content and you responded and I was so stoked that you had actually read my message that I ran to my girlfriend at the time to tell her. I’ve watched your Banjo-Kazooie videos more than I can count, and I will continue doing so! Glad you’re leaning towards content you want to make, and I’m excited to see what’s to come.

  • I honestly don't think it's because of you. The problem probably lies with two things: 1) Bigger franchises just get bigger viewcounts. It's sadly how it is. It's the thing that really annoys me as well because I've been following a youtuber called totally not mark, and he's been reviewing Berserk, my absolute favorite Manga. And that stuff barely gets over 100k most of the time while all his other stuff like One Piece and Dragonball gets 300k AT LEAST. It's annoying, but sadly it cannot be really changed. 2) Let's plays like yours really aren't a thing anymore. And normally, you would think that makes you unique and gives you something to stand out, but that's not how youtube works. Only the popular thing gets the views. The quality of your let's plays has always been high specifically because of your knowledge and your sense of humor. However, most people wanting to see let's plays nowadays just want some random people playing it "live" while making jokes. I also just think most people don't have the attention to sit through a let's play like that. They always want highlights, which is why the whole game reviewer thing takes off so much. With your FF retrospective, you went roughly the same route, and it shows in the numbers. Either way, I am hyped to see more of your future videos. Goodbye, Let's Plays. Keep pushing forward, Clement.

    • Also i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of his subscribers are dead accounts (he did brought up in this video) since he's been making videos since 2008. I have noticed this in several channels i'm subscribed to, a big discrepancy between subscribers and the views the videos get. SomecallmeJohnny also kind of gets this, with him having 400k subcribers and yet his videos don't get half of that unless it's Sonic (and even his recent Sonic videos don't have 400k views).

    • 2) really hurts but is true. There's basically Chuggaconroy and a few other people w/ 500+ subs that can be counted . But everyone else moved on to streaming, and I can't blame them. Less scripting, more audience interaction (for better or worse), donations, and an extra youtube kickback simply involves a highlights reel or some slight editing down. The game's changed.

      @raze2012_@raze2012_2 жыл бұрын
    • @@okagron Yes, and no. Yes, to some extent many people who sub never unsub themselves. there may be people who haven't clicked on Clement's video in a decade but are subbed because they can't be bothered to unsub. But Google does occasionally do a small purge of removing spam or automatically unsubbing super inactive accounts. And I think there was a huge, global subscriber dip some years back. So there's less "dead" accounts than you think, but still many ones who may not even remmber they subbed to Clement.

  • Gonna be real with you, Clement. I didn't come here to watch your Megaman content or whatever was demanded of you. I learned of you from collaborations you made with content creators I had watched at the time and I found your personality and commentary incredibly amusing. Your earnest endearment to playing oldschool games or just games your passionate with were such a huge appeal. You are genuinely a fascinating and entertaining person, however as much of a pleasure it is to watch you on screen and talk about stuff... I feel overwhelemed having to keep up with Let's Plays that span over 20-30 minutes or 40+ parts. I've stopped watching Let's Plays in general as growing up I found that you don't quite have the free time on my hands that I used to have. There are so many things I'd like to get to than to set myself to watch something that would eventually feel like an obligation. I've felt the same way with other Let's Play channels I adore to watch and it sucks I can't give them the attention I once used to. However your videos about "Clement Remembers" were a stroke of genius as not only could you go in depth about the game and the wonderful experiences you had with them, it felt like something that was friendly and approachable to consume with my time. It gave me a feeling that I could be done with the video and feel satisfied without having that feeling of leaving something unfinished. I feel as a content creator, you have the potential to become a grand entertainer. Your mix of informative and passionate commentary is incredibly appealing. I just feel you need to find a formula in which you can use this trait in an effective manner in which people would be able to enjoy in bite sized, consumable spurts. It's a bit of a meme response, but... "20-30 videos that are 20-40 parts? Nuh-uh. A 1-2 hour video/podcast about one particular game/topic? I got time." Don't ever doubt yourself as a person as you are not a failure or anything the like. I hope to see you continue to grow both as a prosperous content creator, and most importantly, a person. I look forward to seeing more of the content you create, but please also give yourself the time of day to have a life you can enjoy with friends and family as well!

  • As long as we're still getting Clement, I'm happy. And if Clement is happy, even better. I did discover your channel for MegaMan content, and your let's plays are really some of the most well produce LP on KZhead, but that was years ago, and KZhead has really changed. There is just so much stuff now. Watching someone, even a creator you like, play some game you don't especially care for? "I might get to it later", and then the episodes start to add up and it turns into a bigger time investment, "I'll just wait for the next let's play". Not only are your scripted videos usually of higher quality, but they are just much more digestible; Even the really long ones, like the Sonic 06 review, which is easily my favorite, is easier to pick up and get in to. I still think it would be cool for you to cover obscure games, but maybe in a shorter format? I rarely comment, kinda hard to in a second language, but this is the type of video that feels more important to give feedback to. Big decisions are pretty hard, but I think this should be a fun hobby, rather than something that can weight on you, so I think this is also a smart change to make. Looking forward to future videos.

When you said you’ve been uploading since Bush was president it really hit me. Thank you so much for all the memories and your core fans will still continue to support the channel for sure.

  • Thank you for everything Clement! Your lets plays for Megaman and Sonic are the reason I was able to complete those games growing up. Thank you.

  • Honestly. I've had a few moments the last few years where I've thought the thought "Oh shoot I should watch some Clement, he's got all these new letsplays. These games look super quirky, and I really miss that dude's commentary." Back in the day I loved your videos because of your take on the format. You and Chugga were the two kings of the hill for me, and it was a treat every time you uploaded. I even drew you fanart back in the day (it meant the world when you thanked me for it), but I don't have that middle school internet kid time anymore. Work, and the ever restricting social calendar just don't lend me the time to catch up on multiple 30 minute episodes a week, and once I'm behind, the que just keeps getting longer. A whole let's play can be the equivalent of two Seasons of TV, and I can't even seem to find the time for the shows my friends want me to watch. About your audience, I would disagree with you directly. You did find an audience that was there for you, but the format of your content didn't grow with us. I think the format change is going to really help. I'm honestly jazzed to hear that you're going to be making more digestible videos. I think the great performance of your FF videos is proof that we're here and waiting for you Clement, so take your time, but also you can't get these new videos to us fast enough!

  • Your lp’s have been a part of my life since I was still in grade school. It’s the end of an era- but I’m sure the future will be even brighter

  • Clement I subbed to you in the Sonic and megaman let's plays but as I grew up and had less free time I was unable to watch as much. But then you started the FF remember series. And it was amazing. Nice long videos I could watch rather then 40 parts I could never hope to watch. It amazing and I look forward to your content in the future!

  • Im so happy for you, you've been making LPs since i started watching you in 6th grade. Im about to graduate college now. I binged a whole summer in middle school catching up with your sonic and mega man LPs. And enjoyed every second. Not only did you have such a clean cut way talking about the game and truly showing everything it has to offer but you were also such a great commentator to do it to. The unfiltered nerd that knows evrything about the games he loves. And for that i'll always have respect for you. You introduced me to some obscure gems too like Fear Effect, Conkers Bad Fur Day, and many others. you would just put so much work into the video to make sure the viewer got everything is to get out of the game. And your determination to finish what you started. The dedication you had for the sonic retrospective is unparalleled . And hey now you got an archive of every sonic to date on your channel. That shits worth more then a purple heart. I figured you musta been getting burnt out through the end, after all you started in the LP era and kept the train going for over a decade. You stuck to what you know and loved. No weird shit but i feel like i got a little of how i am from you. You kinda parented me ngl, take it as you will. Anyways i just wanna say im excited for you to be spanning out of LPs and if you do truly take the route of video essays i will be SURE to tune in. Thats something i feel you can just nail. When you know a game you KNOW a game. This has gotten long you just are a big part of my life even if i didnt have as much time to watch your LPS as i did previously. I would always come back when i could. So on that note, Im ready for your transformation Clement Also upset you removed your drunk super meat boy playthrough. Just thought about it, couldnt find it.

  • I am SUPER excited for your Look Ats and reviews. I originally subscribed because of your Sonic 06 review, there's a super cut that combined all your parts into one, I LOVE that video. And I'm super excited for what's to come!
