Earlier this month the reboot of Saints Row hit the gaming space. But while you're all playing that, I thought it'd be fun to look at how it all began. So put on some purple, let's get this started. This is a new series I call, Humble Beginnings.

Clearly I needed to play further into GTA San Andreas when I was collecting footage, because everyone's informing me you could recruit soldiers to help you take territories in that game as well. I've beaten San Andreas before but I didn't remember that at all! Whoops!

Teammates in SA are incredibly bad shots so they are pretty much useless.
While he says old Saints Row isn't as deep when talking about gang violence compared to San Andreas. But the fact that in the end of SR1 your actions lead to corrupt politicians starting up a mass gentrification plan. Seeing as some lower income places are getting gentrified heavily right now IRL. I find it neat that Saints Row of all things actually reference such things.
Humble beginnings sounds like a new fun series. Looking forward to more of these from different franchises.

I like all 4 saints Row game I don't got a favorite between the 4 original games I just like the swearing and comedic drama in these games plus the porn star stuff that's litered around still water oh yeah and the dildollie that cracked me up I've never seen one in a game before and I just like saints row because it reminds me of Kuma n Harold featuring Redman and method man with a bit of Friday added in
One of my fondest memories of this game is when I was with my brother and cousin playing this. There's a mission where you gotta help some guy. He goes "you must be the kid Julius sent" in the calmest tone while he's ragdolling down stairs and that moment sent us into uncontrollable laughter and remained an in-joke for us for a long time

It's so cool crazy that clement went from megaman to playing every single sonic game in full, all mainline final fantasies then work on big videos for surprise games we didn't expect. Love your work clement keep it up

A lot of Saints Row 2's new features were planned to be in this game, but had to be removed due to time constraints. Pretty sure female playable characters was one of them
Saints row 1 and 2 (the originals are the goat) I was kinda sad to see 3 and people hype it up like its great. Its not. Anyways, Clement im glad to see your still making content. As a child back watching your megaman videos.
Great idea for a new series. Would also be interesting if some episodes focused on the humble beginnings of certain developers. Like Insomniac or Arkanes first games before they became AAA studios. Many studios’ first projects are forgotten once they get their big break.

Something that I really like about the original saints row is the interactivity in the open open world. All throughout u can see phone numbers on billboards, bus stops, taxi’s and the radio stations, each one with their quirky twist. Calling the number on your phone will trigger unique dialogue and it can do nothing or used at the right time can get u something, like Zombie Lin. It’s just a nice Easter egg that allows the world to feel more alive and interactive

The Carnales final mission is the hardest one, as the other two have ways you can make them easier; Rollerz - Bring one of the big bulky police traffic stop vehicles along to the mission Vice Kings - Head straight to the Forgive & Forget in the museum district after picking up Stefan. Repeatedly drive through it.

I absolutely love how on point this retrospective is and I personally love a lot if not all the points you bring up that I’ve been saying when talking about this game! No one ever mentions the vibrant colors and how lovely the game is to view, especially compared to the washed out Saints Row 2. I believe the soundtrack is the best and I know none of the somgs im the game personally but I had my biggest playlist compared to all the other games. I love the dynamic of the characters and I adore that despite how grounded this game can be, it’s still just as fun and whacky as it’s sequels. Okay maybe not as wacky but it’s still fun and doesn’t shy away from the comedic stuff they put in. They made thise fun bits like Zombie Lin neat little additions and bits without going overboard like they eventually do in SR3 and onward. It didn’t need it for the others and I will gladly return to this and SR2 with my foam middle finger pimp slap before going onto 3 and onward. Thank you for this video
Never got to play the first one because I've never owned an Xbox but my older brother introduced me to Saints Row 2 way back around 2010 and I've been a fan ever since. 2, 3, and 4 are some of my favorite open world games!

I remember I bought my first xbox 360 at a yard sale like 2 years after xbox360 launched and it had this game and I enjoyed the hell out of it. One of the things I liked the most was drive head on into an npc car and watching them fly out of their windshield and occassionally they would fly directly into my windshield and I could just drive around with there legs hanging out flopping around lol I had never seen that happen in an open world game and there hasnt been another to do that since then. Underrated and unappreciated gem.

Awesome first episode to a new series! It was nice to see a look back on the first Saints Row. I am so glad I am not alone with the same thoughts on GTA 4. I thought it was a massive step down from everything Rockstar did in San Andreas, thankfully Saints Row 1 and 2 were there to fill in the GTA sized hole left there for a good chunk of that generation until GTA 5 finally came out. I can't wait to see more videos from you, Clement!

18:30 this was one my only 2 real issues with the game i never knew how much health i had the regen was also too slow. also i agree that sr 2 graphically took a step back. 20:00 the worst offense of this is failing an activity not only when you fail do you have to drive back but all of your noteriety stays its the worst thing
Nice video! I've never played the series even though I was aware of it, and I was aware of the direction shift too. Though I do see why people dislike the change, I love how wacky the changes are, even if it goes too far. I guess I like the idea of causing total mayhem in the city with superpowers and sci-fi styled vehicles.

Kingdom Hearts would be an interesting humble beginnings because it is truly odd to see just how much the series got more complicated overtime and how much of it has changed due to it being much more mainstream because back in the day, the first game felt like more of a underdog ps2 classic despite the game selling really well

Tbh, I missed it when games really had a specific target demographic, "this game is for boys/men" then let it be, not every game needs to be inclusive, some times specifics makes deeper and more intricate stories.
As someone who never owned a 360, I really hope the original Saints Row gets ported to PC someday.

Big fan of Saint's row here, who has never owned an Xbox in my life. Lovely to see these gems pop up on my youtube feed, because that is where I found out most of the saint's row mythos. I won't demand another Saint's Row game, since I saw the tekken lore video, and may I suggest Fable as another episode of "humble beginnings".

I really appreciate how you highlight how silly the first game really was. The discussion surrounding the games usually summarize the first two games as super serious and dark, which they were really not, Saints Row The Third was just EVEN MORE silly, that does not mean SR1-2 were not.

Congrats! You are a saved soul !! I feel so so so sorry for people who are starting in the series with this new reboot !!! I played sr 1 first time in a friend’s xbox 360 in 2012 but it was literally just for couple of seconds maybe 1 minute but the one that i really played for first time for hours, doing missions etc was the third and eventually I finally got SR 1 and 2 on double pack edition in 2016 !!
Clement, Saints Row Gat out of Hell was my first, and boy was it fun. Dumb fun, but fun nonetheless.
I just played SR 1 and 2. They are good in their own right and I just wished that they were made recently cause there is a major hole rn for those kinds of games. Rockstar ain't gonna do it and neither will Volition. SRTT is good too but, it moves in a odd pace.

If we gonna talk about - famous "stars" in Voice lining SR games, need to mention, there more of them: Tera Patrick, Sasha Grey (Yes, both are pornstars), Burt Reynolds, and etc. And modern Anthony (Boss of VC gang) - later, in SR 4, is gonna be voiced by Terry Crews. So, yea, cast in SR games (except a damn reboot) - are phenomenal. Also, Gary Busey (Yes, THE GUY who voiced Phil Cassidy in GTA VC) - was in a TV ad and Trailers of first Two SR games.

I often hear 4 described as a Bliss to play, (Pretty much how you want a Superhero game to playout), but the story is pretty much a mindless cartoon. (Which to some, hey, no big problem. But to others, be it some of the fans, it would be nice to have a balance of seriousness and wackiness.)

@@AliBazz The gameplay is great in my opinion, it's Saints Row's gameplay, but with Superpowers added to it. So you get that regular open world sandbox shoot em up style mixed with running super fast, doing takedowns, freezing things or turning things on fire while listening to music on the in-game portable mp3 player.
