The DS version of RE1 is the definitive version of the original for me. Quick turn, auto aim, knife no longer takes inventory space, and you can skip cutscenes and even the door animations.
Plus it has rebirth mode, where you get to blow candles through the mic, and a whole new set of puzzles that were not in the original mode.
and you can tab jills butt and chris hair!

The FMV are too compressed for me compared to the PS1 original. Those additions definitely make the DS game more modern to play now though.

You actually have enough ammo in re 1 to kill all the enemies in the game, but you need not only to understand the game enemies but to plan ahead with your choosen run.

apparently the original actors were given lines but had no idea what thee context was so they did multiple takes. the scouting agents at capcom spliced the lines together but didn't speak much English. In Japanese markets most buyers didn't notice because English wasn't their native tongue but it sounded strange to English's speaking markets.
That completely matches the way it sounds imo - like native English speakers reading lines without context, which were then spliced together and assembled by non native-English speakers. The whole thing has this uncanny sound, because the pronunciation, accents etc. are perfect, but the intonation, cadences etc. are all wrong.
@@GuyDude-hk8uy the script itself is very poor too. Japanese version contains the original script of the game in the form of subtitles, and people have found many mistranslations comparing the two.
Yeah the OG actors were VERY confused with the script and had zero direction. Feel bad for them but hey, the game did well lol

Brad Vickers gets a lot of hate but didn’t he fly around the mansion for hours, risking his fuel, to make sure his friends had an escape? As their only pilot, he’s super valuable to the team. Now if he dipped back to home base and never came back THEN I’d get the hate lol

First played RE in 1998 on the PS 1 Resident Evil: Directors Cut. Since then it’s been my all time favorite gaming franchise. It’s amazing to see how much it’s grown and to see so many others who like it too. RE will not be stopping any time soon. And that’s a good thing.

Man, you sure know how to describe your experience with these games and the story in a entertaining and compelling way. I’m curious to see you tackle other series this way. Man, is the campiness of that game fun to watch. It can be hard to believe at times that this horror series started that way. If another remake were to happen someday I’m weirdly hoping it has an option that can keep the campiness.

Most people don't know that the original Resident Evil from 1996 is actually a remake of a 1989 video game called Sweet Home. Yes, that's how deep this rabbit hole goes.

Man it feels almost alien to look at original Resident evil and then compare it to what came afterwards. We went from very campy survivor horror to action movie levels of mission impossible with some zombies thrown in the later games then back to survival horror with 7 and then back again with action movie with 8. Although there is a charm to the campiness of the original OG game which thank God 4 remake kept a good chunk of its campiness from the original version of 4 even if a lot of it isn't completely there. It's just something you can't remove from Resident Evil no matter what. That said the best thing to come from this is the realization that Barry Burton's English voice actor is the same guy who voices red from Mega man X7. Oh and the Jill sandwich line never forget that line lol. Great job Clement!

My brother's and I got a ps1 for Christmas we each got a game, I got RE:1. I was the oldest Soni got to play my game first, and I put in Resident Evil and the TV powered on after the PS Logo and whatnot so the first image we saw was that intro cutscene... both my brothers shouted at me, "TV video! You gotta press TV video!!" And holding the controller I looked back at them and said I'm with WAY TOO MUCH seriousness, "It is on TV video," and we were all flabbergasted and hooked. It was an amazing Christmas morning, I think 7th grade maybe?...
Fun Fact: PS1 Resident Evil is a bit of a remake/reimagining of a horror rpg called Sweet Home.

@@kevincollins8620 Yes lol! It's a game where you are solving environment and inventory puzzles to progress the plot while examining everything around you and picking up anything not nailed down. That's literally the core mechanics of 90s adventure games. The only difference is they place monsters and bosses in your way.

In the Saturn version, a zombie version of Wesker can be found and killed in the battle mode. So, yeah, it's safe to say that he wasn't planned for any of the sequels.
it is a fact that the director of the game was Japanese. which is why the dialog was how it was. i will never understand people that don't like tank controls. they are very simple to learn. 42:09 didn't remember Ada being mentioned in the first game! amazing!
Honestly, I really wish for a second remake too...of RE2. I want me those fixed camera angle, the prerendered world, and beautiful clunky ass tank controls. I miss the old style of Resident Evil, with it's mix of sincerity and 80s/90s camp, and despite not having personally played a classis style RE game (my first one was the Wii version of RE4) until late last year (2022) or early this year (2023), it hooked me immediately. It (REmake) also freaked the pants off me, so, there's that. The modern remakes have never actually been horror games for me, not even the much lauded RE2 Remake, I've enjoyed (most of) them (some of the time), but for me they have more problems that bright spots. So I'd really love for RE2 and RE3 to get remakes in the classic style, the way that the original Resident Evil did back on the Gamecube, but with all the power modern machines can give...oh, and the old art styling, I really dislike the RE Engine faces, they're friggin ugly to me, too real.
