Competition is good, Palworld is genuinely fun and it's only half the price of a main series Pokémon game.

    @reversal@reversal3 ай бұрын
    • I don't actually think this is any competition to pokémon. It isn't even the same genre of game. This seems like an open-world survival oriented game. It's closer to minecraft and fortnight than Pokémon. It did borrow some concept from Pokémon, but saying that it competes pokémon makes no sense (to me at least). Overall, the game doesn't seem to be in the same category at all objective-wise. I'm glad people enjoy it, but even though I like Pokémon, I personally wouldn't play Palworld.

How does it work. -What EXACTLY each tech purchase gets you -Most efficient mining setup for each resource -What the hell does the attack stat do and is a 2pt bump even worth it? -Do gathering traits like 'foreman' stack? -What are the differences between the different mounts? Why ride a llama when a wolf is faster? Why so many gliding mounts? -What are the % differences for elemental strengths / weaknesses? Is there STAB?

    @dutyfreeadventures5924@dutyfreeadventures59243 ай бұрын
    • I haven’t played this yet but going off of Ark Survival and Palworld running off of that more than Pokémon, is that they both gather different resources. Yes in Ark we have the dire wolf we can ride and kill other dinos for meat runs. Ark also has the Megaloceros or a prehistoric moose and you ride that to gather thatch and wood from trees which is faster than doing it by hand. That’s basically why I am guessing the need of different mounts for Palworld would be very similar. For the flyers in Ark there are ones that are just faster, ones that have a great carry weight for mats and others that you can build a small base on its saddle that is more useful in PVP play.

  • See I think this fills a void missing with Pokémon. It wouldn’t fit into the mainline games, but I would LOVE to see a survival aspect into the next Legends game where you build your own base or even a new line of exploring/survival game line where you get dropped in a completely new land and have to use the Pokémon you catch there plus one that you get given (your starter) when you arrive. You can grow crops for food and potions, you’ll need a ground type for tilling and harvesting, grass type for planting and growing and water type for watering, then special types for special crops. Like we kinda saw in Legends Arceus. Across the games and tv series we’ve seen and heard reference to Pokémon helping with moving, building, mining and farming, but never really a mechanic for the player to use their Pokémon in these ways. Since Ark blew the lid off core survival games I have dreamed of a Pokémon themed version and I really think Nintendo have missed a massive opportunity to explore a completely new game dynamic.

    • I'm of the opinion that mainline Pokemon games need to move away from their tired old formula and focus more on what PLA did well. Zelda did the same and it was the best thing for the series. Obviously the core aspects of catching, raising and battling need to remain. Keep the competitive scene alive too. But that slow, turn based battling system and being entirely reliant on your Pokemon to do all your work is archaic and needs to change.

  • I recently got a oled switch to play scarlet and violet on and absolutely love it. I watch your Pokemon vids and think they are such great content. Seeing your take on Palworld, which my son and I are really enjoying, is truly refreshing. Hopefully notes are being taken for future pokemon games possibly but I myself will continue to enjoy all of them because they are different. Keep up the great vids.

  • comparing Palworld and Pokemon is like comparing Pokemon and Digimon yeah, all of them have cute creatures you can catch and stuff, but there's a lot more differences than similaries beyond that

    @daemoneko@daemoneko3 ай бұрын
    • That's disingenuous. Digimon and pokemon have different designers, which is why they look different. The pal designs are largely spliced together from pokemon, with some other examples like Totoro and yo-kai watch. There are exact faces, bodies, and design flourishes taken from pokemon. That's not indicative of original designs, it means they just stole designs. I mean, there are pals that have the exact faces of galarian meowth, giratina, meganium, etc., which isn't something that happens by chance.

  • Glad to see you covering this game. We need the Austin John style coverage of lucky odds, breeding, and mechanic manipulation like you do for Pokémon games. Hope you keep up the support for this and the community supports you for it. Someone online called this Pokémon for Millennials and as one I tend to agree. It’s got all the mechanics I love about Pokémon but tied in with a good basis for a survival game, and set in a more mature feeling world. If they give this game some real support this could last them and us a very long time.
