Hi, here is the analysis of the situation with Ukrainian Commercial Aviation perspectives. Some say that Ukraine will open the Mail Boryspil Airport in Kyiv soon. So there are some reasons why it isn't going to happen until the war is over.

It costs nothing to push the like button and it helps Denys a lot. I am a Patreon member and I always hit the like button. If you can spend the time to watch his videos you can sure take the split second to push the like button.

The moderators, many German America-haters - delete any comments they like, bash America non-stop and when it fits them ban users who disagree with some of the anti-American comments. Bear in mind - the thread is suspend to be about helping Ukraine. BUT more often than not it turns into “who hates America the most” contest.. Disgusting and the fact he condones it shows his true colors. So that’s why.

I wanted to ask it because I have many friends from Russia and Ukraine who do this but I always ask myself, if there is a reason because the russian and ukrainian languages are different in terms of letters and alphabet. • I served in Iraq in 2004 and actually lived/worked at Baghdad International Airport. Royal Jordanian Airlines was the only carrier operating flights at the time due to the risk of surface-to-air missiles such as the one that damaged that DHL A300 in late 2003, and those were smaller turboprop aircraft. There is still a significant risk to civilian aircraft, and I’m sure Russia would not guarantee their safety; ask Malaysian Airlines about that.

  • Thank you very much for the update! Indeed the Airspace of Ukraine will be reopened for Civil Aviation when the War has ended - very hopefully with a Ukrainian Victory. I readed just these days in the net that twelve Russian Airports around the Front Line are still closed, too. Rosaviatsia, the Russian Civil Aviation Authority, wanted to reopen the Airport of Krasnodar, but the Russian Defense Ministry forbid it for Safety Reason. So, they stay closed, too. I readed also in a statistic in the net after the departure of the 777-300ER from Boryspil that approximately 40 more civil Aircrafts are still grounded on Ukrainian Airports caused by the War. Of course I don´t know if those numbers are right.

  • Great news if this means you may resume your career as an airline pilot, given that it has been 2 years though I wonder what sort of steps ou would need to go thru when it comes to certification and such. I assume that you haven't been flying since the war began, other than perhaps a few hours on simulators when those are available.

    @robertsmith4681@robertsmith46814 ай бұрын
    • At a minimum it would probably be a check ride with a certified instructor. The refresher procedure is set by the airline in compliance with the rules of the aviation authority having jurisdiction. Simulator work and occasional charter flights can help a pilot stay current. More than that I could not say without research since I am not a commercial pilot.

  • I figured as much for commercial aviation at this time, but for military aviation, building hardened concrete bunkers and alternative runways would make sense, as well as working a deal with neighboring countries to extend runways into their territory for emergency places to land military planes. In terms of targeting sources of missiles coming from Russia, I wonder about developing home grown long range missiles using more readily available propellants like thermite. Just a thought.

  • We had to go to Kiev just on 23rd of february. But at that time, we could only get a flight from Geneva to Kiev for the 24th of february. I could book the flight in the morning of 24th at 1o clock, despite the risk of starting the war. I was checking the airspace on Ukraine at that night, and I could only see an american AWAK flying around in the eastern part. Then I went to sleep for some time, and when I was waking up at 6, the war started and the flight was canceled!!

Usually these would expire after one year of professional inactivity. How to restart Ukrainian aviation once these NOTAM are cnx ? I again want to dispatch flights to KBP/ODS/LWO soon! I expect a LARGE demand of pax flights into KBP from the EU once it is available and safe again, as not everyone likes to go by train (although Ukrsalisnyzja is doing a great great job!!) • There is a completely different reason. The chances of being hit by friendly fire are much higher than anyhting else, simply because civilian airplanes have no IFF trnasponders, UKR equipment uses no dedicated transponders, their AA defenses use no IFF. This is also when crossing NATO border. Basically such flights woudl disorganise AA defences.

    • That makes sense - if air defenses had to stand down for commercial flights, Russia would sneak in air attacks on the same vectors. Imagine an airliner being "hijacked" by a fighter-bomber flying close formation behind it to get a free shot at a ground target - it would be just like Hamas fighters hiding behind women and children while shooting at other civilians.

  • Congrats This might be part of the newly moved air defense batteries. There might be enough to run the entire border creating a wall to catch missiles 100's of miles from airport, and everything else in W Ukraine. I do agree though that scheduled commercial flights can't take the risk, but charters could, if they wanted to take the risk, hmmmmmm but how to get friendly / foe transponders on planes. Still, I'm sure there is a demand for flights, for the right amount of money. The flights would of course need to be totally unscheduled.

BUT also as Europe is not under declaration of war, things move very very slowly, no matter how fast politicians talk, as you should beginning to understand by now and this talk will just gets the small ball rolling in a slow system, plus even IF open wouldn't be mostly cargo planes and diplomatic flights. plus this should bring the topic to the UK and Swiss Rapier FSC AKA Rapier 2000, that they have in storage and don't use, also I would suspected that airports will need to undergo inspection before starting operation and maintenance will be needed after being closed for so long and that cost money. are there any international airport emergency funds program out there? if so there is another slow ball that needs to be get to start rolling. most things in this world are not like a car, that you can just hop in and go. things take time, things can have long process, things that people normally don't into the count.

  • Maybe it's time you 'went home' and enlisted Denys! You've said many times that you are not qualified to fly (your dream jet) F-16 but you could do MUCH for the UAF. Ukraine is in need of men in the service - I'm sure you could assist your country as a Member of the UAF. Pilot a drone maybe? You had lots of experience there.

  • You are again misleading the public; the Aircraft, a B-777, was relocated to a service facility in France for overhaul after being stuck in Kyiv since February 2022. It is not coming back and was empty. The European Air Transport Authority and the FAA will not open the airspace over Ukraine until hostilities have ceased. No Aircraft insurer will insure a plane and its cargo and passengers at the moment. So nothing will happen Ukraine always uses these one-off incidents to spin the story that everything is going fine. It is not.

Unfortunately it is quite obvious that until end of this terrible war commercial flights will not be resumed because it is dangerous and the risk of being shot down is obvious.
