  • As an IT guy, I can tell you that doing this did NOT speed up Windows. Now my 24" G-Sync monitor has silicone all over it! Your eye looks like it healed up well too, awesome! I need to go do this on my 2002 BMW. God I cannot wait to sell it!

  • When you sprayed at the bottom of the track in the door and said "let it flow down" - was truly a Eureka moment... I've taken door panels off, I ought to know this already but - only now do I realize THE TRACK GOES DOWN INSIDE THE DOOR and is the exact same material as the rest of the track... the light bulb finally went off for me - thanks for that.

  • Yes, those felt runners and the guides get dry over time and weather. We use the CRC HD Silicone Spray on those and it keep them soft and supple so they give as the window goes through them vs. the stiff and hard felt that will bind. Sadly, the felt materials used today just don't last as long as they used to. The silicone spray works well with all weatherstriping and seals etc. Even around ignition wires and electrical connections, it helps keep moisture away while preserving the plastics and flexible materials. Vacuum hoses etc benefit from it just the same.

    • I always sprayed the silicone on my own car doors, for decades, from the first time I read you ought to do it. My dad had an old Dodge Mirada though, he never bothered doing that. The result was predictable, after 20 years they crumble like crepe paper. Ever tried replacing weather-stripping/door seals?? UGH it's the worst job I can think of almost... just one try at that, and I never forgot to treat the seals ever again -

  • 100% correct fix for this problem. The silicone spray lubricates the rubber window seal. I am in the autobody business and we use this all the time. Over time the rubber seal dries up and this restores it to like new condition.

Clean and lube the seals and channels and they work perfectly fine. Learned my lesson after warranty a regulator and motor and still had the same issue.

Dealer did a service for this which did not work, then the recall or service bulliten came out and they did that (or so they say), ut it did not help at all. • I have learnt to my cost that not all rubbers tolerates silicon. Some swell and distort. It may be OK on the rubber that Ford uses, but it may not be true of all manufacturers. Be careful! On my old landcruiser I had a problem with windows binding. I was able to get the seals out without removing the glass and gave them a good scrub. There was an incredible amount of caked dust, probably bound by many years of wax and soap. When I put them back there was a big improvement, but I wasn't completely happy. So I mixed graphite with water and dripped it down between the seal and the glass. Problem solved. I do it once every few years.

  • On a 10 yrs old car? Lol thats a cheap temporary fix on the same line of a used car salesman tactics. You need to disassemble the door panel and lube the brackets with lithium/all purpose grease. Thats only if your window motor isnt burnt (highly likely that needs replacement on a 10 yrs old GMC). Briefly, the ford dealership that sold the car did not want to fix a car they sold. What they should have done: replace window motor. But that's a 100$ they werent willing to fix on a 7-9k car they sold after trading it in for 4k.

  • Your body shop painter will hate you! This is a good idea but do it cleanly and don’t fry overspray all over. Silicone is the worst residue to have on a car surface you have to paint. Fish eye city.

    • Well hopefully the vehicle won't have to get painted and we won't have a problem

    • That is why you wipe it down a few times with Dupont Prep Sol... Using only clean, really clean towels.. I never get fish eyes..
