I don't have a car, but I found this video enjoyable. What can I say, I like learning new stuff. Thanks!

You can always do the wipers on the bus.
This is bad advice and will only work well temporarily. WD40 is mostly made of petroleum distillates and oil. These 2 ingredients will accelerate the breakdown of any rubber product. Sure, applying it to wiper blades will remove caked up debris and lubricate them to slide easily over the glass windshield (even with no water present), but the rubber compound of the blade will degrade and crack quicker. You will be disappointed at the short lifespan of your wipers, especially if you paid $30+ for the pair. The best way to maintain your wiper blades is to apply soapy water with a scrounge pad to remove caked up debris then wipe a silicone lubricant on the blade with a cotton rag. Ironically, WD40 also makes a silicone lubricant in a spray can. Silicone won’t breakdown rubber like petroleum distillates and oil will.
How about brake cleaner? It should be rubber-friendly as well, right?
After seeing WD40 take off all that wiper dirt, tried it out on our dishes. Now nobody eats off of them and they're always clean. ;)

Oh my gosh, they're hilarious! Thanks for the heads up.
I think the black stuff that comes off of the wiper blades is actually the graphite that the blades are initially coated with to keep them from skipping and squeaking. A better solution MIGHT be to clean the blades and then run a 9b graphite pencil along the edge of the blades. Wd40 would work temporarily but as someone else said, it will degrade the rubber and it won't last.
Or maybe graphite powder.?
@@melissaaldosari8024 Yeah but that will be a lot harder to apply.
You you might just buy new damn wipers! Problem solved!
Yes, this is completely true. Every time I attempt to clean the wiper blades they get worse and in fact recently I rubbed down a brand new pair of blades and they made the rag completely black - even though they had not been used.
They have graphite spray its a lubricant. CRC dry graphite spray
It works! I don't have the WD40 so I used the Silicon spray instead, now both wiper blades are smooth as new, no more squeaky sounds. Thanks!
Somehow this video brought out more comedians than I can remember. Funny too!

Yep, as a Long haul truck driver I've used this trick for quite a while, but instead of using glass cleaner I use dishwashing soap on the windshields, in my opinion does do a better job at degreasing than using window cleaner.
Thanks for the tip Bishop.
I used to clean windows for years, never used anything other than dishwashing soap!
I have never thought about using dish soap. Great Idea. I hope it works in 120° weather. Arizona is hard on everything and especially rubber & batteries
yup I use a razor blade wand and lots of soap and/or window cleaner. Run the razor back and forth in small motions to scrape off embedded debris. Sometimes I'll use #000 steel wool. It doesn't scratch if you get the right kind.
Yup, and believe it or not Dove is the best one that I've ever tried

Glad it was helpful! Thank you for the kind words
This will work for a short period, but eventually you need to replace the blades as the edges get rounded and will not act as a squeegee for removing the water from your windshield as designed. If there was actually a way to cut the blades back to expose a fresh squared edge then this would work better at rejuvenating the blades.
Nail file!
Actually, there used to be a windshield wiper cutter that did exactly that. It looked like a little box with a slot, which held a blade at the proper angle. You ran it along the blade.
Now I finally know what to do with the extra mystery sock when I do laundry.
Where do all the odd socks go? 🤷🏻♂️

I was a tech while in college many moons ago and learned this working in shops. It definitely works!
Sprayed WD-40 all over my wipers to clean my windshield. In doing so, I protected my socks from oil and dirt and they're still like new. Thanks!!!
Most people don’t know that the “WD” in WD-40 stands for ‘water displacement’. It was developed for minimizing ice buildup on liquid fuel rockets external tanks. It just happens to have lubricant properties as well as being hydrophobic. This is a great use for it since that is what it’s designed for as long as you rub it in well so as not to leave streaks of it on your windshield.
It attracts dirt !
Why does WD-40 fear water? Is it homophobic too? If so, I'm buying a can!
@@Mooseknuckle713 Yes. It can if you don’t wipe it down to just a thin film. Some people overapply it and make a mess.

Rain X rocks!! I remember a situation recently where my wiper arm broke, but I had to get to my next destination. I stopped and purchased Rain X. Dried my window to the best of my ability and spread it liberally all over the windshield and left some of the residue on purpose. I proceeded to my destination, and the wind from driving literally kept my windshield very clear, enough to get where I was going without a problem. I'm not advocating people do this, but it really worked well. You can imagine how it works in conjunction with the wipers. BTW, I love WD 40, it has so many hidden uses that are truely amazing, good tip by the way. It's also a great hand cleaner in a pinch, just a quick tip from a mechanic. And I'm sure that last comment wiil trigger some people about skin cancer and heaven knows whatever else, but what these days isn't going to kill us. I'm 70 and still going strong inspite of all the things I shouldn't have done. I'll go when I'm good and ready.
By coincidence, I just had a 1" squamous carcinoma removed from my arm two days ago. The dermatologist explained it was certainly the result of cumulative sun exposure (I have always been lax about sun on my forearms) and never said a word about using WD-40.
@@flagmichael Sorry to hear about your cancer, that sucks, but at least you caught it it, that is awesome. Anyway, I just made that comment because there is always somebody who has to make some comment to the negative, and I figured I'd cover my bases. I'm not advocating people take showers in the stuff, but it has many useful uses. I'm glad you are doing well. Have an awesome day.
Been there and done that, with the rain x and wipers not working. Definitely got me out of a pinch, I was happy.
Unless you spray it in your eyes, huff it, drink it, or spray near open flame, WD-40 is fairly innocuous stuff in normal use. Google WD-40 MSDS. Eating cookies and donuts on a regular basis is a greater health hazard.
A good wax will do the same job though in my experience. I've had better results with Collonite Wax than RainX. You can basically drive without using your wipers.

Great to hear!
Now you can finally get rid of that scented paper tree in your fov…
Don't use wd40 for this: most of that residue is the actual rubber having been dissolved by the wd40. Use silicon spray instead after using a mix of dish detergent and water on a rag instead. That'll degrease them while the silicone spray will lubricate any remaining debris free of the blade.
@@melodykim425 sort of; the "rubber" used in wiper blades is a mix of rubber and pex plastic. it's not good on it and is why so much black comes off when used here.
thanks, was looking for this before commenting. WD40 on any rubber part is generally a bad idea in the long run.
Just did and now they scream! And the black stuff just keeps on coming...I guess untill there's no more wipers... So now I need new wipers...or maybe I can rescue them with some silicone...
I wouldn't use dish detergent on anything rubber either as it will reduce its life.
@@johnmknox only if left soaking in it for hours there shouldn't be any degradation. I suppose if you were to apply it and somehow get lost between the side of the car and the windshield there could be a problem. Lol

I use WD as a moisturiser after shaving its fantastic keeping my skin oily and young looking. Wrinkle displacement NICE.
I never heard of using WD-40 as a moisturizer. But I knew an old mechanic in his 70s, that swore that WD-40 on his knees relieved the pain somewhat. When we talked about it, he swore that a cousin of his used to clean his ears out with WD-40 on a Q-tip.. i’m a little cautious about getting any chemicals on my skin anymore, because anything that gets on your skin, gets inside your body, I don’t handle lead weights when balancing car tires anymore with bare hands, I don’t get oil on my hands when changing oil in my truck or in my motorcycles without using latex gloves, I wear a filter mask not just a cloth mask when doing any spray painting all the little things around the garage or house. are where rubber gloves when using my parts washing machine to clean parts even though the fluid in my parts washer is supposed to be safe and not very flammable. You don’t know what’s in whatever it is out there anymore.. I remember a few years ago that they found that there was counterfeit Colgate toothpaste , that was made in China and sold in dollar stores here in the USA, that had Etheline glycol.
