SC Featured: How Caitlin Clark is inspiring a new generation

2024 ж. 23 Нау.

As a little girl, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark was competitive at everything she did... and dreamed of one day earning a college basketball scholarship. Now she’s the face of the sport, harnessing that competitive fire to score more points than any player in the history of Division I basketball, all while inspiring a new generation of kids to dream big, just like she did.

  • I appreciate ESPN and all the big outlets finally showing support to women’s sports. Caitlin is One of HUNDREDS of women that came before her that paved the for her to be the person she is today. Let’s also thank the coaches for taking the training wheels off the Girls Basketball Game to allow us to play more “like the boys”.. girls can ball too! She is proof. Congratulations 🥳 BALLER!! ⛹️

  • From various media reports, Caitlin Clark seems to have something that Michael Jordan & Tom Brady also have: an absolute hatred of "losing" -- at anything, whether it's tiddlywinks or the Final Four. You'd have to think that this will "translate" to professional sports & the WNBA. And as someone who doesn't watch or attend WNBA games, I can say that will change next year, when she joins the Indiana team. If my city had a WNBA team, I would definitely buy tickets & pay to see her shooting those "deeper than Steph Curry" three-pointers. Caitlin Clark is, and will continue to be I think, a sports & cultural "phenomenon." I can't wait to see what she does!

  • I usually don’t watch women’s basketball, but I do watch basketball. We don’t have to look up to LeBron James or Michael Jordan as basketball heroes. We have Caitlin Clark who has a very competitive fierce in her blood. She spent her days playing against the boys. Wow!!! That’s an amazing story!

  • Americans are drawn to Caitlin not only because of her exciting style of play, but because she comes from an intact family whose love for each other is obvious. That’s inspiring. Michael Jordan’s family is another example. We appreciate strong fathers

    @joeykremple@joeykrempleАй бұрын
    • I'm American but that's not why I'm drawn to CC so what "Americans" are you speaking of? Is "American" code for something? And what is an "intact" family? If you mean a two (hetero) parent family, there are plenty of families that look differently but have obvious love and support for each other just the same.

  • South Carolina is undefeated and have the deepest roster in ncaa college basketball but all espn can talk about is Caitlin Clark. It’s about hype not about sports. SC should be getting more coverage. They have a freshman coming off the bench who is easily the best freshman in basketball and top 10 player in women’s college basketball. ESPN not doing their job.

    • You know why, she’s really good and she’s really white.

      @jayy88@jayy88Ай бұрын
    • You're right that SC isn't being talked about enough. You're wrong that Clark is just "about hype not about sports", how many more records on and off the court does she need to break? And Fulwiley for sure is the future, along with Juju and Hidalgo. She could very well end up as the best from their class, but she hasn't played enough this year say that she's "easily the best freshman".

    • Juju's not better than Clark yet; Clark's ahead in almost every single stat and metric. But yes Juju does play better defense, and she should since she's taller, faster, stronger. But it's wrong to say that Clark "doesnt" play any defense: Here's all the defensive numbers for Clark, Juju, and every single Power 6 conference guard who won their conference's defensive player of the year (can't really compare defensive numbers of guards to centers/forwards) - Clark of course isn't as good as them overall, but she has respectable numbers for a point guard: Clark: 1.8 steals/game, 0.5 blocks/game, 1.7 defensive win shares, 4.5 defensive box plus-minus Juju: 2.4 spg, 1.6 bpg, 2.4 dws, 5.6 dbpm Hidalgo (ND): 4.6 spg, 0.1 bpg, 3.8 dws, 9.1 dbpm Taylor (Ohio St): 2.5 spg, 0.9 bpg, 2.1 dws, 6.8 dbpm Quinerly (WVU): 2.9 spg, 0.1 bpg, 2.6 dws, 4.9 dbpm Ransom (Georgetown): 2.1 spg, 0.4 bpg, 2.6 dws, 3.8 dbpm

    • OP with one of the worst hater comparisons ever, good job. Clark is actually a combo of Curry & Nash. And btw, you mean the Nash who's in the Hall of Fame, 5th all-time in assists, & has 2 MVPs? Nice one. Many including me do think Kobe should've won one of those MVPs over Nash. But he deserved the other one. If you wanna say Nash is overrated just for that & forget everything else, that's on you.

    • Well, Clark is nine inches shorter than Griner but has outscored her in college, averaged only 1.5 fewer rebounds per game and has led the country in assists for four years. If Griner weren’t 6’9”, I don’t think she’d be even close to Clark. When it comes down to it, though, she is 6’9” and uses that to her advantage, which is great! They are both amazing players, but I think it’s pretty ridiculous to say Clark is overrated or less talented than Griner.
