This male lion was caught off guard by two dominant male lions while lazing on the runway's warm tarmac.

Peter Forsyth, a 24-year-old field guide, witnessed this sighting during his safari in Sabi Sands, Greater Kruger National Park. Peter shared his sighting and footage with LatestSightings.com.
"We were tracking lions based on audio cues when we came across a lone lion. To our surprise, it wasn't one of the dominant coalition males ruling the area. We knew that the roars of this solitary lion would inevitably attract trouble."
Peter and his group observed the lion for about 20 minutes until things changed. The two dominant males of the area suddenly appeared. However, it was their approach that was so unique as they silently stalked and approached the lion without him even sensing their presence.
What sets this encounter apart is how quietly the dominant males approached. In a world where staying silent and using strategy is crucial, these two lions stealthily stalked the intruder. Surprisingly, despite being in the open, the lone lion didn't sense their presence until they were almost on top of him.
At one point, he even glanced their way, and the two males were right there. But he failed to notice them, showing just how stealthy and cautious they had been.
The coalition males focused on asserting their dominance, engaged in a brief and intense skirmish. Rather than intending to kill the lone male, their display was a means to establish dominance. They roared to make their statement, letting the solitary lion know who is in charge.
In the lion world, teamwork is vital. Male lions team up in groups to protect their territory and find food. These groups of male lions are called coalitions. When young males grow up, they are kicked out of their pride to find a new area or form their own coalition. Sometimes fights occur if lions from one coalition enter another coalition's territory.
“The battle was brief but intense, with each lion weighing in close to 400 pounds and going at each other. It was an exciting yet intimidating feeling to be that close to so much power. For me, it was a heart-pounding experience. In my six years in the area, I had never witnessed lions fighting like this before. It was truly an adrenaline rush."
During such sightings, giving the animals extra space is vital. Initially parked quite close to the lone lion, Peter and his group wisely backed off by about 20 meters when they realized the two dominant males were joining the scene. This cautious approach ensured they didn't interfere with the animals and their potential movements.

The lion looked back at the tourists like u mofo...u aint warn me 😂😂
😂😂😂
The lion laying down is relatable. All you want is peace and the ability to heal. Then here comes trouble again. The way he laid down in frustration. It was almost like he was saying come on “leave me alone.” but he stood his ground and growled back even when they were boasting over the “victory”. 🦁❤️
He is trying to show he is in control of the territory so if he purely wanted to relax with less chance of an intrusion he would have picked a better spot than the middle of the road where he is easily spotted.
He stood his ground & fight back instead of fleeing. Lionheart 🔥💯
There was no chance to flee they had him on his back practically begging for his life They had the upper hand and spared him No lionheart here just an animal doing what it can to survive
He fled right afterward, as soon as he could.
@Gutterrepublic It was two on one!! You talk as if he got his a$$ handed to him in a one vs. one fight!!
@@MeanMug_8448they went light on him you act as if they went beast mode on him, don’t kid yourself chump
He saw them. He apparently knows them and assumed they wouldn't attack.
Certainly seems like he saw them.
I was thinking this...also thinking either he's blind 😂 or he's ready to go ☠️
For those who need further explanation. The lone lion’s tail placement shows that he probably backed down and ran away to live another day.
I was thinking the same ..looked like the wounded him
It’s not the tail. It’s his whole body, mainly his head which bows in submission.
I was thinking they probably knew him since he they didn't kill him immediately
@@gqtrower2114ö³ 1:58 q
Ya he looked pretty defeated.
the conversation afterwards is most interesting, along with their tendency to avoid each others' gaze.
Those lions walked up like gangstas 😂🤣
Stop talking like a dude!
Glad to see the bit in the description about the visitors moving further away once they realized the local coalition were coming to meet this lone lion. Respect for the wildlife should come first!
"meet", yeah...
Interesting. The lone lion knows the others are there and assumes a surrender posture. Looks to me like he may be seeking a family to join. I'd like to know what they were saying to each other and what relationship they had subsequently.
Looks like a gang initiation to join 😂
It's the Plain Camp Brothers 2 Impressive lions always chasing lions around
What's the most impressive is that when they finished the fight they roared as sign of Victory Truly playing fair and square as kings!
That lone lion is lucky that these 2 boys were merciful.
Looked to me like the lone lion suffered a broken front leg from the attack. I could be wrong, though.
if only they took the video in the right orientation, the full event would have been captured
🤔
Cameraman... "Didn't know that" !
It's completely baffling. One wonders what goes on in the minds of portrait format filmers. Do they always hold their phones upright, no matter what they are using them for? Have they ever asked themselves why TV screens are shaped the way they are? The screens in movie theaters?
@@johanrebelHahaha From Bigfoot to fights, when I was younger I just couldn't understand. I'm not asking for Avengers Endgame or Shawnshank redemption but come on!
@@johanrebelthey’re taking waaaaaaaay to many selfies to understand landscape orientation
Why is this filmed portrait, when the best would be in landscape?

Stop recording in portrait
Preach it, brother 👍
Where's the love button? ❤❤❤

Why don't you cry about it.....
It's not that bad
That lone male was sick
He was withdrawing from puberty blockers
@@TransKidsMafia whahahahaha good one LOL
@@TransKidsMafia ..He was ill, not mentally handicapped.
Is that why shit was just falling out of its butthole?
He isn't sick. This is the Tumbela male, he has no illness and is in his prime. Only issue with him is a slight limp he caught from a previous attack.
That is no fighting. Only arguing.
Wait, are they on an airstrip? Imagine trying to land a plane on that runway. 😅
The lions would move real quickly when a giant bird making loud noises with spinning blades is coming at them 😊
They would just run away.
They would become ground round ! 😅
I liked how the two seemed like they were almost laughing afterwards. 😂
They weren't laughing. They were claiming his territory. Letting him know that he is now a trespasser on their land, and if he doesn't move on, there will be consequences. Their roaring also serves as a warning to other lions in the area that they, too, better not trespass on their land.
@@bosslady7611 I realize that they weren't literally laughing dude...
@Atrus999 I know you know they weren't really laughing. They're not human. They can't necessarily laugh per se. I assumed you meant they were gloating about what they did to the lone lion, so I was just clarifying their actions, just in case you didn't know. My apologies if I sounded rude❤️
It fascinates me how the animals just dont pay any attention to the vehicles or the people in them lol
Sounds like those lions were laughing at the one they snuck up on. 😂😂 😂
Simba and Mufasa really showed Scar who’s in charge around here!
That Lion is literally shitting himself🔥 3:09
Wouldn't you do the same thing in this particular situation? 😂
@@miketesla8550 Man, I wouldn't be laying and relaxing out there in the open in the first place
Lol, no time to relax, especially when you're taking in some sun like an iguana in a highly noticeable place.
Lol, good point.@@Mell504
My biggest question is why this lion knew danger was coming but decided to take a nap instead.
He was as calm as a stoic
He couldn’t see them or smell them. Besides, he acknowledged the dominant ones as dominant and stated he is not a challenger, he will leave soon. So, the dominants don't kill him. Great display of stoicism by all three of them.
Both Male Lions=“GET OUT, THIS OUR TERRITORY” Rival Lion= Okay, Okay, Geez, No need to throw a fit.
He knew all they were packing was lightning. No thunder. Taking a nap after seeing two of them is a whole other level of disrespect.
People seriously need to learn how to turn their phone horizontal.
say that again...
Alright, that's over with; let's go get a beer! - The Lions
The lion refused to take off.
What an epic sighting!
I know they normally have head on a swivel but not this time. Yeah he was sick. But still he stood his ground. Of all the animals that fight for dominance, the lions fighting bothers me the most. They’re so majestic and proud it just kills me to see them suffering. But it’s raw nature.
The two lions were walking in sync with each other 2:17
Normally a strange male lion would run right away upon seeing two strong male bruisers coming toward him. The fight was too brief. I suspect they probably know each other and did not expect them to attack him. He was unsurprised because he saw them before they crept up on him.
probably half related.. pretty common reason of not killing in many times
Prly same pride growing up..even looked similiar.
@@lloydchristmas1086my thoughts too. The 2 that attacked could be the father and uncle from his original pride. The young males are run off when they start trying to mate. That dark fur is a less common trait and they all have it in the same exact spots then have blond manes elsewhere.
The Plains camp brothers it's like a game for them to chase and attack other males. But one day they might get separated and run into a coalition of males.
If you look at the lone lion. He seems sick and doesn’t look healthy. So the lone lion doesn’t bother these healthy lions. They know it and didn’t hurt him more or else they would really take a fight if needed
2:40 the other lion be like, let's leave this guy, seems he's sick!
After spotting them he's like: "they want to attack me cause im pretty"😂
Dang it! I cant even rest 😔
They caught bro lackin
This isn't a rival. It's their homie slackin on the job
You can tell the rival lion was injured.
lion: watching tv 2lions: change the channel
Plane was late again. The passenger had to sit in the tarmac and wait without food or water.
Looks like he was partly injured from previous fight & was resting & had no energy or the will to put up a fight. The other two do not want to risk getting injured themselves by going on all out attack since they know he pretty much surrendered.
Looks like those two read "The Art of War!" 😏
Wow, they actually spared him? He is lucky to be alive
Perhaps they were surprised he didn't hear them approaching, and disappointed in that he wasn't afraid of them.
Well, that'll be the last time Clarence takes a leisurely nap without being fully aware of his surroundings.
The lion pooped himself 😂 he was brave but still scared shitless!
The lone nomad, probably, saw them (that's why he had his head turned for a while), but stood his ground. Plus, he seemed younger, meaning he could inflict severe injuries to any of the other two.
Filming this in portrait format is absolutely brilliant. And as usual, LS insults viewers with a risibly bad clickbait thumbnail.
Get lost, you don't have to watch anything from this channel if they insult you!
@@thabzmad7265 LS insults everyone who isn't fooled by an awful and pathetic fake thumbnail. That's unfortunate, because this channel does upload the occasional clip that shows something interesting. The quality is often poor, if not abysmal, but that's not LS's fault. The material is mostly supplied by amateurs wielding cellphones. Some of them even shoot in portrait format, and many of them just can't keep their traps shut, ruining the video with their inane commentary or crying and wailing.
@@johanrebel what's fake about the thumbnail? Perhaps you have this channel confused with Asian solo KZheadr channels, as a subscriber and regular viewer of videos on this channel, I have yet to find anything insulting, maybe I missed something? Perhaps you can post a link of examples to support your case?
@@thabzmad7265 If you can't tell at a glance, you belong to the category of viewers who are easily deceived, and therefore not insulted.
@@johanrebel The bright enhanced/false colors and orientation? Blame the researchers for colors as the encouragement is to use brilliant colors in a thumbnail to grab attention . But factually, the brightened thumbnail is representative of what happens in the video and not typical click bait of something not showing or artist impression, so still not deceptive, sorry.
Definition of lurking literally 😂
Well, I’m glad we all got THAT out of our system
Definitely brothers, complaining about him sleeping on the job. Not rivals.
Definitely rivals lol. These are the last Tumbela male, Skorro Jr, and his rivals the Plains Camp males. Plains Camp males and the Birmingham males killed this guy's ( Tumbela ) entire pride of 3 adult lionesses and 6 subadults, only 2 of the 6 remains, the last daughters of the lion getting attacked here, the last members of the Othawa pride.
Looks like he’s been trying to get away from these boys for awhile. He was seeking sanctuary from them by being closer to humans. And when he got up he’s extremely stiff and very skinny. This is most likely the end of the road for this boy, hopefully not. 🙏❤️ He seems to be in his prime, I’m guessing he was injured from a hunt or something and has been slightly crippled from the injury.
He isn't trying to "get close" to humans, humans are always around watching lions, this is Sabi Sands. This is not the end of the road for him either, he's alive and well, and in his prime, he is the last Tumbela male, Skorro Jr. He is healthy. And no, he wasn't skinny, he's in perfect shape, he only looks skinny because he is next to the Plains Camp males who are big and very bulky. When Tumbela is seen alone he looks in normal shape. Only issue with him is a slight limp he picked from a previous attack.
@@reinsaxony4623 yes animals will use humans as protection. If you read the title the lion is laying on a air strip… that’s a landing zone for planes. He’s looking for protection from the other lions. Mother bears do the same thing
@@countrygirlxo7188 Sigh. The airstrip is normal lion territory, all lions go through it all the time, it has nothing to do with being closer to humans, you have no idea how lions behave or how they interact with the lodges.
@@reinsaxony4623 I actually have a lot of information about lions. Clearly you do not. To think that animals don’t use humans as protection is ridiculous. Do they always no but they will. To assume lions do not when there’s a documentary about it is absolutely ridiculous

What happened next?
people think of lions as fighters. But in reality, they are gansters.
Please shoot video in landscape mode not portrait mode SMFH! 🤦🏻♂️
Why so short then what happened?
Miss the Mapogo lion coalition. Mr T would have made quick work of those two.
The Plains camp brothers are impressive chasing lions around and its only 2 of them imagine they had 2 or 3 like minded as them? They don't settle in one area. They are not even in their prime. Mr T destroyed the mapogo coalition I don't like him he killed Cubs and separated the brothers I really do think something was wrong with Mr T that's why he had that funny looking mane.
I have a quick question Why do they start fighting and then they stop and then they go back to fighting again? Is it so they can catch their breath or do they have a low endurance just curious.
Tradition!
Its rounds like boxing. The lionesses keep score by round in case there isn't a kill so they know who to follow.
We saw some fur fly. The single thinner lion will not be a daddy again.
I know you shouldn't fear anyone out there but you are not the only one out there
There ain't no way to hide their lion eyes.

Esos leones no son rivales, se conocen, sólo quieren reafirmar su dominio.
It looks like the lone lion was already assaulted by the 2 aggressors . The lone lion was injured already and trying to recover
Parece que a esos leones les duele el estómago cuando rujen.
I think it was a practice attack and they discussed the outcome afterwards.
You can never relax unfortunately 😥
It was the fault of the coalition. It is an unwritten rule in the lions world not to attack on white airport stripes cause of accident danger.
A little tougher than those two thought he might be.
