39-Year-old Director Jennifer Coleman and 32-year-old Programme Manager at the School of Law, Liechen Tonkin were both on two different safari vehicles when a pride of lions starting trying to catch a buffalo. The lions chased it right into the safari vehicle that Jennifer and her partner were in!

Incredibly, they both managed to capture this event unfolding from two different angles which made for a spectacular sighting!
They told LatestSightings.com that this was a once in a lifetime experience.
Liechen told Latest Sightings: "We were staying at Ivory Tree Lodge and our game ranger (Kyle) asked us what we wanted to see. My partner and I haven’t seen buffalo in the Pilanesberg before and requested buffalo. I mentioned to Kyle that I saw on the Latest Sightings WhatsApp group (Click to join: chat.whatsapp.com/IuiiBHWKtRe...) that Buffaloes were sighted earlier the day and we drove in that direction."
"Upon getting closer, a few vehicles passed us and told us that they saw lions, buffalo and elephant in the direction we were driving. Those tourists missed the hunt within a minute!"
"We saw 2 buffalo in the distance but stopped to look at a lioness and her 3 cubs. In another direction, we saw another lioness and then a lion running. Kyle turned the vehicle around and we followed the lions to see what he was running after. In a matter of seconds, it all unfolded right next to the game vehicle. We saw the buffalo charging the lion, then the buffalo running and the lions' in pursuit.”
“My partner and I were very calm - we sat - smiling at each other (it has always been a dream of his to see the buffalo and a joint dream to see a hunt). I was not the one gasping in the video - that would be the person sitting behind me. We were routing for the buffalo but were shocked when the buffalo ran into the vehicle in front of us. My first thought when that happened was, that I hope my camera recorded it! Because the ranger of the vehicle might need it (my labor law brain).”
While Jennifer added: “It was a very calm drive with not much happening - we then stopped to look at some lion cubs with their mom in the far distances on the one side of the road. On the other side were two male buffalo on their own. All of a sudden, in the further distance, a male lion started chasing a male buffalo that ended up crossing the road in front of us, and we excitedly watched the chase unfold!"
"The two lionesses that were with the cubs joined in on the pursuit of the buffalo. The buffalo was very disoriented from being spun around and ended up crashing into the game viewing vehicle with a loud thud. This gave the male lion a big fright and some time for the buffalo to get away and run off in the opposite direction.”
Both the filmers of this sighting said that they were extremely happy that the buffalo got away, and equally surprised when it ran into the vehicle!

Looking at what the Cape buffalo did to that car with just one hit, it's amazing to think lions can bring them down. Just shows the raw power involved with all these animals.
Yeah, absolutely. We humans are one the weakest living things because those animals are stronger than us in terms of physical power, sight, feelings, some have poisons but what GOD endowed us is powerful brain and appropriate form of creation that enabled us to manage them and throughout the entire world.

Well lions bring them down because buffalos are kinda stupid. One vs one a buffalo can take a male lion down, a they actually have done it, it’s just that most of them like yo run rather than tackle them first.
@@pepingrillin3995 Part of what makes lions great is their intelligence. Sure, if buffalo were smart enough to work in groups, like lions do, then they would certainly not be on the menu. i dont get the anger if people dont want to watch attacks. And to assume that people look away because they didnt think that could occur. idk, could be true for some maybe..but ive been on safari in Africa twice. I was always fully aware i might see attacks and i did see attacks. I also looked away. It doesnt mean im not in reality with nature. I dont have to watch a creature die to tell myself that now ive fully embraced, accepted or understood nature. I am fully aware of the death cycle, but i dont have to watch it to prove it. Do i? If i want to enjoy the peaceful side instead of the killing, why is that so wrong?

Buffalo out here getting jumped and cameramen out here recording like “world star”
has there ever been an attack to the tourists bec theres gotta be a day where a lion will attempt because that truck theyre in has no protection whatsoever .
The lions see the car from when they are young and probably don’t think much about it. Plus there are strict rules on how to behave on those cars and the guides are locals with good eyes and know how to behave
They view the vehicles as a whole, since the people never get out in front of predators(if at all) they never associate the vehicles with prey. If you get out, that’s a big no no not just for your safety but kinda the same idea when people say “don’t feed the animals”.
I presume they have guns and if tourist's lives are endangered they will fire a warning shot or kill shot.
To my knowledge there's never been a case of a predator dragging a tourist out of a vehicle driven by an SA ranger. The lions don't view vehicles as prey and those trucks have very high clearance. It would have been a different story if that was a tiny city car, however. A buffalo could tip something that size on its head - this is why you keep your engines on when near them, elephants and rhino!
They are animal but still they understand there are humans inside the car, they don't think car and passangers inside as one.

Perhaps that impact travelled right upto the lion's jaws and instinctively he lost the grip.

Smart buffalo. That was clearly thought out. I've seen prey animals run at herds of elephants to scare of pursuing predators as well. Essentially a last ditch effort to cause confusion to get away. That buffalo wasn't running very fast though so I imagine it didn't actually get away
No it would have been gotten eaten
The buffalo has a lot better cardio than the lions so it would have gotten away the lions won't be able to pursue it due to using all the energy trying to take it down. Hence why only 10% of hunts work in the predators favour.
