Wow, considering the 8 is a repackaged A80L, I'm glad I just got my 77" last month for almost half the price. And I'm talking retail from Sony, not some lightning sale.

I am sure that in a couple of years they will make a mess with naming, when they will need to insert some models in between🤔
Name yes tech. No 8k ability look like being neglected for gamers who use gaming pc or consoles example Samsung not only is there 8k tv cutting edge all it hardware on outside hence one connect tech. No need worry about 5 years from now if some reason tv start to glitch.

Well yeah, theres been a major lack of flagship TV shows nowadays. The good thing is the processing is in the TV so even if you watch youtube or tiktok on your tv it won't look bad
I can already tell everyone (including myself) is going to want a Bravia 9 vs Bravia 7 video, to see just how much better (or not) the new backlight system works.

The new naming will be easier for me to explain to customers. Odd numbers are LED. The only even number is OLED, and of course the left over model from last year A95L.
Still only two 4k/120hz ports :( No love for the 42" Oled//mini led Maybe the InZone line will have something for gamers in monitor size.
The A90K will still be available in 42" and 48" for 2024 :)
@@paskelrey I would know. I've been using the 42" A90K since it launched. The A90K is the reason I haven't updated to one of those new 32" OLED monitors from Asus, MSI and others. I also own the 48" model, purchased after my 900E bite the dust. I like the brightness of mini-led. The A90K gets sufficiently bright. But there is room for improvement.
In 42" I'd just go with the LG C4 at this point.
Would love to know more about the reflection handling of those TVs as my living room is really bright

85 inch Bravia 9 is listed for $5,599 on their website. I'm shocked. I was about to pull the trigger on the $8K Samsung and figured this would be close in price.

Personally, I'd rather take the money and go on a vacation somewhere to try and build some _real_ memories (& maybe burn a few calories). But hey! You do you. I’m a die hard OLED. My LG-C1 OLED is still going strong with no issues and steady updates. I also game on it for hours at a time. Zero issues with the TV to this day. My next TV will be another OLED. Hail to the king of tv’s.
same here bro....MY c1 has zero burn in even after 6000+ hour and the picture still looks like I got it when it was new... I am also going for oled on my next buy but that might be another 2-3 years. The burn in has to be so bad I have to notice it constantly in every color than I might upgrade the TV.

Prices got inflated too high this year. If the Bravia 7 is the equivalent of the X90 then the price of the 75 inch went up 1200 bucks. Based on the specs, it certainly is most in line with the X90. The X90 replacement was what I was looking for but not at their insane suggested retail price. TCL or Hisense will likely have a very good TV at a much more reasonable price.
First I hope you're not comparing X90L current prices vs new launch prices. The X90L has dropped likely 20-25% in price since launch. Also, the Bravia 7 is a substantial upgrade over X90L. It's more or less an X95L so the pricing is really good. The prices of a Bravia 7 vs TCL and Hisense isn't going to be far off. But the processing of the Bravia 7 will be far better, just like the X90L was far better BUT it lacked in blooming. Now they fixed that . Besides the X90L will continue to be sold. As for Bravia 9 prices, they are basically in line with X95L prices.

I want to be optimistic because QD-OLED seemed like the TV technology end game I’ve been hoping for since flat screens first popped in the seen in the late 90s. But if the cost to performance ratio isn’t there, and nearly all of the market is buying LG’s WOLEDs instead of Samsung’s QD-OLEDs then it doesn’t bode well for its future.

@@PSYCHOV3N0M not Sony, QD-OLED in general. Sony uses Samsung panels as Samsung is the only manufacturer of QD-OLED panels. LG is the only manufacturer of WOLED panels. Sony’s lower end OLEDs that use WOLED panels are supplied by LG. The only two companies that sell QD-OLED TVs are Samsung and Sony. Nearly all other brands use LG’s panels. LG display is continuing to invest in WOLED innovation. Samsung is seemingly focusing on mini LEDs. Unless Samsung can make the cost of the QDOLED panels cheap enough to keep using them in their cheaper TVs… that technology likely won’t last very long since everyone else is choosing to buy their oled panels from LG instead. Including Sony.

Probably when the A95L successor comes up in 2025, it will be called Bravia 10. A 10/10.

8K was dead. Its will back when the 8K content become standard

(Also, I do use an 8K TV with 8K content every day, but let's not worry about that … it's a Samsung but I wish it was a Sony)
One more thing: Watching 4K on an 8K screen, is the bee's nuts. It was the same for HD on a 4KTV and SD on an HDTV. But back to my question: What do they call the Z-series now, whether it's 8K or whatever?

Just bought the A95L recently and have no regrets whatsoever. Also glad to know it won't be replaced with a newer version anytime soon. Cant beat Sony's picture quality.

New Model names a great! Now I'm most interested in how much or little the 9 is worse than the A95L in Sci-Fi content at night!? Or another great "OLED scene" to test is from Frozen 2, where Elza sings against pitch black background and paints with sparkles in the dark.
Yes names are now much better.. especially if we pair them with year of release so consumers know.

Wish the Bravia 7 would include 43 and 50 inch variants. Also, why isn't the Bravia 3 offered in 120Hz like the current X85K?

@@winwincsk I can't really think of a compelling reason to buy a Bravia 3 unless you want a 2024 Sony TV smaller than 55 inches. In fact, Sony isn't even going to offer the Bravia 3 in Europe.
So they're keeping the x90L this year to take over the x85k. So that will be the "new" entry level 120Hz model. Bravia 3 collapses x80k and the X77L if ur in NA into one by retains the price point of the x77L. Probably to continue to take sales from Samsung CU7000/8000 series and complete with the LG UQ series at that price point.

My XH559505 just broke unfortunately (loved that tv) yesterday I had the X95L mini led delivered and it’s outstanding quality! I’m blown away by its picture. And with a 5 year warranty from Sony.

Had Sony TVs for 30 years. Just got a Philips Ambilight and it blows all my old TVs away. Not bothered about a slightly better screen without Ambilight. Going to be an interesting video to watch…
Hi Caleb, thanks for the vids. Can you please enlighten me if you know the answer. I'm comparing the A95L with the S95D, you mentioned that Sony won't be replacing the 2023 model atleast for the time being. But will they use the new OLED panel (2024 model) for the same A95L? Or will they stick with the 2023 OLED panel?
Seems like the A95L is still the way to go.

Yeah I was saying this in another video's comments. While I'm sure the 9 will be probably the best looking mini LED we've seen to date, I don't suspect it'll overall "top" any of the QD-OLED models currently available or new ones coming in 2024.

$2400 is a lot for it if it doesn't even include a sub. And still only 1 HDMI port. Kind of seems like a swing and a miss in those areas. Yeah a new sub would have been nice!

Guess I'm glad I didn't wait any longer and picked up a 48" A90k for a discount. The new tv's are cool and all, but nothing in my size bracket and I'm sure the price for these new ones will be formidable
Yeah, A90K carries over for 2024, so it's still current and the best TV Sony offers in that size class.
So it sounds like the A95L is going to remain the best 55" in Sony's lineup. Although the Bravia 8 is considerably thinner than the A80L and might be a better price/performance choice. Even if I had space for a 65", I don't think I'm ready for a $3000+ Bravia 9. Having owned a Bravia 25" Trinitron in the '80s and a Bravia SXRD projection TV in the 2010s I think it's interesting to bring back that name, but maybe they should have resurrected WEGA branding also to differentiate LCD and OLED models.
I'm certainly very tempted to pick up a Bravia 9! I believe Mini-LED is supposed to be better at preventing screen burn so for someone like me who games a lot, that would be perfect! My LG OLED is covered in screen burn/image retention marks.

Great video! I hope other manufacturers, both for PC monitors and TVs, adopt a simpler naming system like Sony. It makes it much easier to compare and choose models when shopping for new items in my opinion.
With how good the picture quality is for the Bravia 9, how is the motion handling? That seems to be the only thing holding it back as an led tv against oled at the moment.
The new naming scheme is fine. What I care about is price and availability. I was trying to buy a 77" A95L and it just wasn't available. Maybe a 85" BRAVIA 9??
The naming scheme is great until you ask, "What will next year's models be called?" Bravia 9a? They should have gone with something like 13, 17, 18, and 19. That way next year you'd do 23, 27, 28, and 29, and people will easily be able to tell which one's the newer model.

Without offering 120Hz the Bravia 3 is dead on arrival. It would make sense at 120Hz because budget minded gamers would consider it like they have the x85K.

LCD tech finally caught up and is surpassing OLED. Just in time for me. Why aren't you going back to OLED? Burn in? Bright room?

These new models are probably why Costco has the Sony 65" X90CL for the price ($1199) of a 55". Too bad I need a 55" which they don't carry. Now upon learning of the Bravia 7, I'm glad I hesitated to pick up an X90L on Amazon.

I agree, while I prefer slightly bigger, there are a lot of people that either don’t have the space or don’t want the biggest screen on the market. Sony would do well to offer their top of the line tech in smaller screens.
I like the new model names, I think it’s more simplified than last year’s and I appreciate that. I just wish the Bravia 7 was like $1500 and then I think it would be such a steal.
With the A95L being a carryover and still a bit pricey…are A95ks even open box in good condition or from private sellers worth it? I have seen some for decent prices
I think the new naming convention is a lot simpler than before. It's clean and it denotes the tiers more clearly.
I have a Sony Xperia phone. 1 is considered the flagship and 10 is the budget. In that context, the Bravia line going the other way around gives me a headache.

Additional, or even considerably more, brightness. No burn-in. Also supports larger size TVs. >75" OLED prices get pretty crazy pretty fast, and good luck going above 85".
Yeah, that’s something important to think. I purchased an LG C3 77 and I’m pretty happy with the overall quality on image and construction… I really don’t think I need more brightness on the TV. For daily usage, I don’t even leave the TV on maximum bright, because it’s not necessary on SDR. When I’m going to watch a Movie, with curtains closed and in HDR, I turn off the economy mode and the TV really shines itself. The black levels are PRETTY awesome, you cannot understand where the barrier between tv and the wall - it’s really all black. 800 nits are more than enough ton peak brightness to have a fantastic image on that. Brightness it’s part of image quality, it’s like sound - volume it’s only one variable, more volume doesn’t mean better quality - There’s A LOT MORE that goes inside this to evaluate “OVERALL QUALITY” and C3 from LG is pretty decent to me - I don’t think I would like to improve that, is really more than enough for me. The same thing happened with my home theater - now I have a 5.1 floor standing 100W speakers from JAMO and a 300W sub and a Denon from 10 years ago that sounds way better than 90% of Atmos availables in market - why should I do an upgrade?
Well, guess there will be some deals on the X95L, but as it stands, and correct me if I'm wrong, the Bravia 9 85" is about $1K more than the X95L is now? The other question would then be, are we approaching diminishing returns on the Bravia 9 compared to the X95L, or is the new flagship price worth it regardless?

I'm not going to buy a 9 series TV, having bought an 80L for my living room I am going to stick to OLED and buy a 95L for the home theatre. I don't need a 4000 nit TV, and the picture would have to be stupendous to beat a 95L OLED.
The 7 and 9 sound fantastic! But, that pricing is beyond ridiculous. Too many great options out there for SUBSTANTIALLY less money. I cant understand how Sony can justify these prices.

They’re just skipping a flagship OLED this year bc the A95L is a beast and only came out a few months ago I do like the new Bravia designation though and had to edit this when he dropped price info, doesn’t cost as much as I thought!

@@furballbear oh shit yeah, we don’t know if the new local dimming algorithm will be in full effect in game mode, Sony has had issues with this before with the X95K not having locks dimming and vrr working right.

Hi thanks as always for the reviews . you have seen the qn900d and bravia 9. I had the qn900c was great after few upgrades but DSE so returned. Has AI helped samsung in refining and getting closer to sony and if Qn900d upscaling is the game changer. Sports is my main criteria.

I used to have a 930E too! I feel like we're a rare breed. Next to nobody bought those lol. Replaced it with a Samsung QN90A when we moved to a bigger place and have since replaced that QN90A with a S90C QD-OLED. And, I gotta say, I don't think I could ever go back to LCD. No matter how much Sony claims to be improving their LD algorithm and implementation, at the end of the day, it's basically impossible to beat individual pixel control.
@stephenpatterson8056 yeah, maybe. I don't mind the cost. It just comes down to the idea that 1 wrong move and I could get burn in. This tv is now 7 years old. It still works pretty well, without showing much age. I want something brighter and a bit quicker on the menus. I would also be going from 65 to 75. If oled didn't come with the ticking time bomb of burn in, I would have probably gotten an lg g3/g4 or a sony 95l. I refuse to spend that kind of money and then have to baby it. If microled was ready in the next year or two, I would probably hold out for one of those.
@sashag1547 QD-OLEDs, particularly the panels used in the Samsung and Sony 2023 models (A95L, S89C, S90C, S95C) don't seem to be very susceptible to burn in. And there's actual evidence to back that up. Rtings has been trying to burn in an S95C for the last year and it has experienced zero burn in. Can't say the same for the WOLEDs though. The LG models seem to get it much more easily. But even with that being said, the testing that Rtings is doing is EXTREME. Way more intense than anything any home user would do to their TV. But the fact that QD-OLED is surviving that crazy testing says a whole lot about how reliable the technology is

On the Bravia 9 tip, if your new to mini-led then it would be nice to get, but if you already own one it ain’t worth the upgrade. Great to see the tech evolve for the better tho.
