As an LSU fan watching this game, I honestly thought we were lucky to survive. I remember telling myself that I'm glad we don't have to see Bama again because we would lose the rematch. Little did I know that we would have to see them again and my thoughts became a reality smh.
TheRexrapper you guys still had a great season
Same man Nick Saban is too good of a coach to lose to the same team twice
Christian Keller facts
LSU had the talent to beat bama. They just didn't have an OC that knew what he was doing and could compete with the likes of saban. If LSU had had a better OC they had the offensive talent to score plenty enough points to beat bama. Greg Studrawa was not a D1 level OC. He was a good oline coach, but he was not a good OC. And anybody that thinks coaching is overrated is a nit wit. OC develop schemes and plays that confound and confuse the defense. When LSU went into the NC game with the same exact offensive plays, bama knew what they were going to do every single play. Miles was arrogant and egotistical and had already decided LSU would win or lose his way. And his way was a travesty of offensive production. Fricking pathetic.
The Author Parrish Gore jack I couldn’t agree more.
As an Auburn fan, this is by far the most enjoyable game i've watched. I'm a defensive nut and I was glued to the TV the entire game! There still hasn't been another game like this.
If you were glued to the TV, you're not an intelligent football guy. As an Auburn fan you suck.
I'm an LSU fan, but my favorite game to rewatch is still the 2013 Iron Bowl.
2010-2013 best era for lsu
This is what happens when elite talent meets elite talent. You get a 9-6 score. I'm not sure if a game at any point in College Football history had as many NFL players as this game did. 20+ players from this game were drafted and several others made it onto NFL rosters as undrafted FA's. A lot of the players from this game are stars today in the NFL and many others are starters or major contributors to their collective NFL team. Crazy. These were without a doubt the best two teams in College Football that year.

One of the best defensive games of all time.
The amount of NFL talent that was in the field that night was incredible
Man, I remember watching this game was like sitting on a knife-edge. This is my fave type of football, mean, fast defense. It really becomes like a game of chess and one wrong move could be the difference. Give me a 9-6 slugfest over the stupid high scoring games we get every week now any day of the week.
2006 Michigan vs Ohio State or 2011 LSU vs Alabama. Which Game of the Century did you enjoy more?
Raenel Pringle definitely 2011 #1 LSU @ #2 Alabama. The hype around that game all year, the smacktalking, the BCS National Championship at stake, the SEC West on the line, 2 elite defenses, talent on offense, you didn’t know who was going to win that game until the very end.
@@Mrp5673 2011
@@Mrp5673 '71 OU vs Nebraska but, that could just be me lol.
Both games were outstanding and I agree that this is my type of football. I actually kinda hate what modern football has become with just an absolute lack of meaningful defense. The game has moved to defense by offense, even Saban learned that and adapted. I miss the days of a QB under center, HB, FB, TE and a couple WRs. Let the big boys decide kind of football. These days it's just lining up 4-5 uber athletes at WR/QB and exploiting the rules of the game to put up video game numbers. I guess I'm a boomer in that regard, lol. As for the other question, I'm a Michigan guy so even with the loss I'd put 2006 "The Game" ahead of this one but just barely. But anyway, this is my kind of football. I'll take a defensive slugfest like this over a hyper-spread 56-47 game every time. I still love the sport but it's just a different game now.
Les Miles: "I would be honored to face that team again." Be careful what you wish for, Les.

Bama wasn't even supposed to be in that game Bama was lucky that Oklahoma at lost
Peyton Overall It was #1 vs #2 and bama only lost by 3 so Bama isn't going to drop very far. If you watched the talent of these two teams that year it is obvious that these were the best two teams in the nation,

It doesn't matter the talent it matters who the best team was at the end of the season and it wasn't bama

Epic, epic night. Grunge defense CFB at its very best, bar none and Katy bar the door, baby. Something we’ll never see again in CFB. Enjoy watching it here and remember that this was once what CFB was all about. What a game. Bama should’ve had this but as usual the kicking wasn’t there. I never understood why it was so difficult to recruit somebody who could hit FGs. Maybe that was a head scratcher for the GOAT too.
I’ve been a college football fan for 50 years, over that time period the 2011 LSU & Alabama defense’s are without a doubt the 2 best defenses that I’ve ever seen step on a college football field. Those 2 defenses weren’t just great defenses, they were historically great defenses !!!! In 8 quarters & 1 overtime of head to head competition between the 2 teams that season, only 1 single TD was yielded between the 2 teams !!! Every single defensive starter for both teams in that game got drafted by the NFL. That’s the only time in the history of college football that’s happened. That game also holds the NCAA record for the game that had the most overall number of players to play in that went on to be drafted by the NFL as well !!! I’ve never seen another season where 2 teams were just that much better than what everybody else was !!! In my opinion both of these teams are severely underrated because of each one of them having a loss on the season. Yet what people usually don’t take into consideration is the fact that those losses were to each other, alone with the fact that there damn sure wasn’t anybody else in the country that even belonged on the same field with those 2 teams that season !! Unbeknownst to most people, LSU was also awarded the mythical FBS football national championship over Alabama for the 2011 season by numerous different major NCAA recognized selectors. What most people don’t realize is the fact that those so-called championship games whether it be the old BCS or current CFP system that we watch on tv & such. Well those games only determines who a few select major NCAA recognized selectors will award their own individual mythical FBS football national championship to each season, but not all of them. It’s the same deal as to why USC can claim the 2003 mythical FBS football national championship, even though LSU & Oklahoma was who played in the BCS mythical FBS football national championship game for that season. It’s the exact same deal as 2017 with UCF and why they’re able to claim the 2017 mythical FBS football national championship, even while Alabama & Georgia played in the 2017 CFP mythical FBS football national championship game for that season. All a team needs is for 1 major NCAA recognized selector to award them with their own individual mythical FBS football national championship for whatever season, for that team to have the rightful claim to that year being a mythical FBS football national championship season for their school. It’s the same principal as to why Alabama is able to claim 1925, 1926, 1931, 1934, 1941, 1964, 1973 & 1978. Therefore in my opinion, LSU certainly should claim the 2011 season as being a mythical FBS football national championship season for their school. I mean after all the 2 teams went 1 - 1 against each other that season. LSU shouldn’t have been made to go 2-0 against Alabama to be awarded the BCS mythical FBS football national championship for the 2011 season, while Alabama was just simply made to split games with LSU and go 1 - 1 against them to be awarded the BCS mythical FBS football national championship for the 2011 season. The regular season win should’ve mattered more for LSU than that in my opinion ! ! Truth be known, Oklahoma St. even has the rightful claim to the 2011 season as being a mythical FBS football national championship season for their school, even though in my opinion LSU & Alabama both would’ve more than likely beat the piss out of Oklahoma St. that season !!!! saturdayblitz.com/2020/01/05/brief-history-college-football-national-championship-claims/?fbclid=IwAR3sbjXMrfk-RJJkX7aSOCkjhNfsJ6eQD9zIsdPmLCjtMS_O0OmoPP5RKgo

You say too much
Both of Alabama linebackers they showed in the beginning Upshaw and Hightower both have won Super Bowls since this game for the Patriots and Ravens! Just goes to show how incredible this Alabama team was!
Upshaw should’ve had one with the Falcons as well but they blew a 28-3 lead
This was the most anticipated college football game that I have ever experienced. The ticket prices to this game were absolutely ridiculous. It was the loudest and most packed out Bryant Denny Stadium has ever been. The energy surrounding this game has yet to be matched by any other game so far
Alabama could have won this game but they lost the special teams battle
Living in Phoenix and wanting to cheer on Arizona state ,we never get games like this, this truly was the game of the century
I remember being on the phone with my dad during Jasper's kick and afterwards yelling in jubilation, "We did it! We did it!" When the announcement came that we'd have to play them again it was literally, "oh shit." Bama was the best team in the country that year and to beat them and have a clear path to the championship derailed by the BCS was a travesty. For what it's worth the rematch led to its downfall. Geaux Tigers.
Trey Day Y'all weren't derailed at all. LSU did what they had to do, and made it to the BCS title game, regardless of who they would've played. We were a better team that night in Tuscaloosa, but just too many mistakes. We put the ball in the endzone ONE of the times we were in the redzone, and this would be no conversation. Hit ONE of the kicks we missed, and we wouldn't be having this conversation. To blame the BCS is irresponsible. LSU has to take responsibility for that embarrassment of a performance that night in New Orleans, and its no one elses fault. The BCS got it right. Was there ANY other team even close to Bama or LSU in 2011? No. The two teams that should've played for the crystal ball, played for the crystal ball. We showed up and didn't make any mistakes the second time. We dominated. The ONLY thing that led to the "fall" of the BCS was the damn media, like everything else. Media driven. "It's not fair that only two teams get a shot at the title." wa-wa. "What if three teams end undefeated??" wa-wa. It doesn't mater. The BCS got it right EVERY year since 2005. The BEST two teams played each other for the title EVERY year since then. The demise of the BCS can also be linked back to its original form, when points counted for so much. OU got taken behind the woodshed in the Big 12 title game by Kansas St., and still made it into the BCS title game. At the end of the day, its all politics, but ONE thing I DO KNOW is that the best two teams (albeit they had to play twice) played for the BCS title in 2011, and Alabama showed to be the best team in the country. That's why Les put "#2 Nationally" on that team's rings :) Lastly, In 1999, we had to beat Florida twice to win an SEC championship. No excuses. We went into The Swamp, and then into the Georgia Dome and beat them twice. Earned it. Don't blame the BCS for LSU not earning a National Championship.

Has there ever been a more meaningless 'Game of the Century'? The team that lost at home got a free pass into the national championship game while the team that won on the road had to go beat a top 10 team at their place (Georgia in the Georgia Dome) just to stay in contention."Anyone who doesn't win their conference has no business playing in the national championship game." - Nick Saban, 2003.

As an Alabama fan, I personally believe that a lot of people considered this the game of the Century, when it really wasn't. Both teams only scored field goals that game. I think that not only this game, but the 2012 BCS National Championship Games were not the games of the century. Everyone in the SEC pretty much knows that the 2012 National Title Game was a major event in the death of the BCS because both Alabama and LSU are not only in the same conference, but also the same division.

This was the best LSU team of all time. They were 13-0 going into National Championship game, mowing through a very difficult schedule by beating 8 top 25 teams, most of them blowouts. Tigers should not have had to play Alabama twice in 2011. Oklahoma State was 12-1, won the big 12, Alabama did not win the SEC. LSU would have creamed Oklahoma State. Alabama had a huge emotional edge in the rematch for the BCS championship, LSU sleepwalked through the game, and Saban out coached Miles.
LSU clearly WAS NOT the best team in the country . . ..u sound like a childish pout bag complaining about playing Bzma shich had lost only ONE game in overtime to LSU which was ranked #1 at the time... You're dead WRONG saying Oklahoma St. Xhoilda been the #2 team znd played for a championship. BOTH teams were 12-1 Bamas loss was by 3 to the #1 team in overtime Oklahoms loss was to a team that was unranked and had only won FOUR GAMES at the time..... Your argument or more of a cry baby plea saying "BOO HOO LSU shouldn't have had to play Bama again"....cause it was obvious the 1st game that Bama CLEARLY was the better team and if we have to play them again the chances of them missing 5 field goals and throwing and interception in the end zone is mot very high.... And u k kw the end result...Bama absolutely dominated and destroyed LSU not even allowing a QST down most of the game and not allowing g them to even cross the 50 until late in the 4th quarter and once they did cross the 50 it was shut down and Bama then slapped the shit out of you and took the ball away and thst was as fad as LSU got the entire game
Watching this again 😃
The 1 and 2 matchup is going to be like 52-45 this year. Quite shocking to see the overall decline of defense and revolution in offense for both teams.
This demonstrates just how important special teams are in football....you can be heads and shoulders better than the other team on offense and defense but if you lose special teams by a wide margin, which bama did that night, it could cost you the game....we saw that work in our favor in the CFP championship though, being outgained by clemson by almost 100 yards but winning special teams handily.

Both of these teams deserve to be called NC's for that year. Even with LSU's conservative offense they were able to beat bama. Les Miles screwed the pooch in the NC game. He lost that game by himself before a single player went on the field. Two team captains (Russell Shepard and T Bob Hebert) went to Miles before the game and asked if Jarret Lee would get a chance to play. Miles responded by telling them that they need to be concerned whether or not they will get to play. Then Miles told Greg Studrawa if Jarret Lee goes in the game he (Studrawa) will be looking for another job the next season. Ironically Shepard and Hebert played very little in that game. And Jarrett did not go in the game. People look back and see the score, 21 to 0, and say it was a arse whooping. They don't know that LSU was still in the game going into the 4th quarter. The offense was predictable, bland, banal, the offense and the OC was horrible. If Miles would have hired a good OC and let him do his job, LSU would have won both games. LSU had more talent than bama. IDK what would have happened if Lee had played because the problem wasn't the QB, it was the offense. But a lot of those offensive players walked onto that field that night in the superdome with their heads down. Miles stupidity lost that game. Miles arrogance and refusal to be innovative offensively cost his several games and his job.

This game actually can be called football. The ball actually makes contact with the foot more often than some other games.
This year (2011) in general really changed LSU as a program. After this game LSU was easily in line for a top recruiting class and on the road to repeat a season like this. Until the rematch, it exposed Les Miles and showed that they wouldn't adapt their game plan. Even though they had an extra game to play more than Bama did, the score shouldn't have been that much of a blowout. After that disgrace of a game that shouldn't have happened, it gave Bama all the possible recruits they could ask for. Almost like propaganda of, "The one team that did beat was a fluke, join us!" As far as the BCS got it right? Hell no. No matter how close a game is the winner shouldn't have to deal with a loser from the same conference nor the same division of said conference in the national title game. Bama had their chance, it would then be time for a non conference opponent to have a shot at #1. Just like in just boxing, everyone gets a shot at the belt, even if it was really close you have to wait your turn. Bama was able to rest up, continue conditioning and have more time than LSU to prepare, point blank period. It's funny because if you honestly think about, no other school, including LSU, would have a chance at a rematch besides Bama. It's crazy how the playoffs happened right after this year...
Absolutely true. Les Miles thought the pro style would work against teams like Bama but in reality it really didn’t,his offense has been horrible since 2009.As for the BCS,i completely agree. It wasn’t fair to have to watch Bama sneak into that game vs LSU,since LSU had already beaten them AT Bama. The playoffs isn’t even that better too there are too many flaws with the CFP.
lol this year tho
Man LSU didn’t win the first game.Alabama lost that game because of the kicking game.I don’t know what your crying about. If LSU was the better team then they shouldn’t have had a problem beating Alabama again. The best team showed they were the best in the second game.LSU had less than 200 yards of offense and didn’t cross the 50 yard line until late in the third quarter.
