  • He also starts it with a backstep/sprawl for distance, to make the entry safe. This serves as his 'snap down' and pulls the opponent forward when he lands to shoot forward. The opponent either steps forward or gets top heavy and can't move his legs to defend. Sometimes the ankle pick merely serves as 'insurance' for the single or double leg.

  • Great video! Thank you for posting. I first learned about the ankle pick a couple of years back when watching a match between Cael Sanderson & Daniel Cormier. It was amazing how many times Cormier was getting caught by it. It was love at 1st sight when I saw it being used and I had to make this technique a part of my arsenal as a mixed martial artist. My favorite techniques are always the low risk techniques. I also love that mixed martial artists rarely, if not never train ankle pick defense. It's always the single or double that they train for. Big surprise when they are not ready for it. Also love how it's a good way to take the back and finish with the real naked choke.

  • I love the ankle pick. I've been using it since my sophomore year all the way up to now in MMA and BJJ, it's definitely one of my go to's since I do have longer arms myself. My other favorite takedown would be the sweep single and I often lead with the ankle pick and chain it into a sweeping single or double leg if they try to sprawl on the initial shot.

  • one of my favorites, the ol' ankle pick, i use it in Jiu Jitsu because it's such a low risk attack, however he is amazing at it, cannot wait to try some of these chained attacks.

    @MrDukes1111@MrDukes11116 жыл бұрын
    • however i will add, not sure it was mentioned. while locked up, you can drag your opponent lets say to your back right foot, that'll make them move there left leg more squared up and easier to reach for you guys with shorter arms or if you're just slower, you can drag, then begin the reaching for the pick of the ankle that hasn't even reached where it's at yet, pretty much attacking where the ankle WILL be if that makes any sense. That's how i usually do mine.

      @MrDukes1111@MrDukes11116 жыл бұрын

I agree with you about the lack of motivation for takedowns rather than just pulling guard. I think it's just a smart idea to have a well rounded game. Thanks for the feedback, and again... great video!
