  • The Saitiev brothers were also unusual in that they were far more aggressive than most typical Russian wrestlers, who preferred a more laid back, or at least less active style. Adam was always my favorite, because while he had a smaller arsenal of favorite techniques than his older brother, he used those three techniques in the most dominating fashion against some of the greatest wrestlers in one of the toughest weight classes.

  • May be not widely known fact about him is that best illustration of Adam's level is that out of sudden, 3-4 years ago he, already trainer, not competitor for at least decade, decided to take part in Yarigin memorial and win it. This is incredible level, to win young, fast and strong guys who are REALLY good wrestlers ( u dont find others in Yarigin memorial which is considered to be small world champ).so he won and just kept on training his guys. Ah, btw, thanks for awesome video. I ahd a chance to see both brothers during 99 Ru champ. But was too young to remember anything from these days. And lost their autographs as well ((

  • A series on how Adam Saitiev uses judo techniques (foot sweeps, throws) would be super helpful.These techniques seem highly effective, and more practical for self defense than taking shots, but they won't work unless someone really breaks it down, and the wrestler practices it day in and day out. For some reason, these techniques aren't emphasized on the mats in our neck of the woods. Really looking forward to it! If you could give us small videos once a week, with more detailed videos in the members section, it would be awesome. I've noticed that videos that can be used in drilling are watched over, and over, and over by myself for boxing. I'm sure it's the same for wrestling.

    • Just because American wrestlers don't know how to use bodylocks and foot sweeps doesn't mean they're "judo" , LoL. American wrestling is just so much more simple and athletic based.

    • Yeah I always hated Judo, I thought it was too complicated where as wrestling is just go go go and violence of action but the older I get the more I appreciate the Russians approach to the sport and other grappling disciplines that are a bit more cerebral. There's a kinda viral video of Khabib, Cejudo, and a female gold medalist Judoka now in MMA where they are arguing wrestling vs Judo and you can tell the Russians have a crazy amount of respect for Judo. Seemed so stupid to me as a young man to learn this 16 step set up to hit this move that to me probably won't work when I can just blast double this guy or whatever but the older I get the more I understand and respect these other grappling disciplines and understand how if learned can apply to any grappling or combat sports.

      @ws8061@ws80619 ай бұрын
    • @@kallepikku4991 Yeah I was exposed to Judo coming through wrestling and thought it was retarded lmao. I think that's wrong now but US wrestling enforces being really really good at a few things. Why are you learning that fancy BS when you can't finish a double leg? That's the mentality IME and it's not the worst way to think about grappling IMO. Why are you learning this 10 step foot sweep takedown when you can't even hit a double leg? I've learned to love the complexity of Judo and BJJ and being cerebral in grappling but it's not typically how I viewed grappling beforehand.

      @ws8061@ws80619 ай бұрын
    • @@kallepikku4991my thoughts exactly, you see footsweeps in all types of primitive grappling arts but somehow ppl just classify it as “judo”. grappling is just grappling, what you do is just your style of grappling

    • @@kallepikku4991 I agree that those techniques are not exclusive for judo - lots of wrestlers from former USSR used them. But I disagree that American wrestling is simple - there are tons of details around "just simple" single leg or double leg. In addition some of American wrestlers used sweeps etc - watch Shultz brothers, Bruce Baumgartner, Randy Lewis etc etc. American wrestling, although physical, is also very technical in its own way.

  • awesome job. Need to notice that Adam has not only weight class difference but level of competition in 84 was not comparable to 76 of Buvaysar had. During Adam era 84 was probably deepest ever weight. Read just names Gatsalov, Sajidov, Ketoev, Muradov all Olimpic and World multiple champs. I think Buvaysar had much easier competition inside and outside of Russia. In my Opinion Adam was better wrestler who was unlike to born as younger of two all time greats

We weren't on the same level as him, so he could quickly get a winning throw on everyone in the dojo. He had success with it in international competition, though. He threw one of the Gracies with uchi mata pretty quickly. In case you're not familiar with the Gracies, they were the founders of the Brazilian Jui Jitsu movement.
