Imagine if amphibians like the Bull Toad got to that size, at least half the intelligence level, and kept their spawn rate. Edit: by Bull Toad, I meant the Cane Toad discussed in a previous video.

There are very few pure herbivore builds. Herbivores generally will take meat if it is given to them, but generally find vegetation grinding easier once they have the digestion buffs so just go for that. One exception might be vegan-class human builds though, who maintain a herbivorous playstyle even without digestion buffs by using their intelligence stat to pick the right nutrition.

1:45 I didn't know hippos could run that fast. I can see how they were able to get such a reputation in the African server for PvP against human players. Unless they have a fairly high-quality ranged weapon there is not a lot a human main can do, since hippos are one of the builds who are virtually immune to human intimidation attacks.
It's a close call actually, hippos are slightly faster than a human at top speed, but humans can run at top speed for longer than a hippo 25-30 seconds for the hippo 35-40 seconds for the human If there was some distance between you, then a reasonably fit human might be able to outrun a hippo by running it out of energy, and that's ignoring adrenaline, which can make you run even faster, and for longer than normal
@@mwbgaming28 On a flat plane maybe but I can't see myself running up a hill or slope and still out running this thin at all Let alone out running it in general since height is a major factor here so if you're shorter you are fucked regardless of if you keep up top speed since you are simply not gonna be able to cover the same distance as a taller person in that same time frame

My three-year-old daughter broke the game the other day when she created herself a, "Hippogator." What is a Hippogator one might ask? The body of a hippo with the head and tail of an alligator. This is absolutely terrifying, and could possibly be an extinction level event if created. She wants to be a zoo keeper when she grows up.

@@Grandflea02 we dont actually use sweating to directly regenerate stamina, we use it for cooling, which reduces stamina drain enough that our natural stamina regeneration exceeds the drain from running, it's still a broken mechanic though

When I first tried the Human build, I met a Hippo player in what I thought was a non-PVP zone; the Hippo was essentially just showcasing its build for more inexperienced Human players, like myself. However, while trying to unequip my level 3 Pacifier, I accidentally dropped it - and the asshole just stole it from me. Chewing on it like that gave him any exp. Scarred me. Definitely do not mess with Hippos.
Honestly i think you're pretty lucky. I still haven't tried getting out of the Asian server, and I really wanna see the other servers because as far as I know, there aren't much hippo players in my area. Most are bug mains and lizard mains, but sometimes I get to see a bird player outside my base.

I'm getting a few comments saying that hippos do eat meat on occasion, which is something I looked into while writing this episode as well. Based on what I found during my research, hippos only eat meat when severely stressed or starving (insert another Darkest Dungeon reference here) and since they can't actually digest it, I think it's fair to still call them obligate herbivores. tl;dr a healthy hippopotamus will only eat vegetation.

the challenge server, the environment is more difficult to survive, but you dont have nearly as many problems to worry about as african players do.
Nah Australia is the test server where potentially broken and crazy builds can be tested by devs and players in a somewhat closed off environment so to not infect and break every other server.

@@ingenjannik Inbreeding can indeed bring malformations. On the other hand, it also allows faster mutations and thus adaptability. Plus, considering the numerous rivers on the continent, the most famous one being the Amazon, I guess they could easily adapt to it. But to which cost for South America ?

Hippos also haven't specked into the Ivory category, so they're not endangered by human players. Smart move by their side.
Actually, they did spec into ivory, just like elephants and walruses. Their ivory just isn't worth it as they have good stealth and that ivory is hard to get to.
The UK government is currently in the process of adding hippos to the ivory act, in order to reduce trade. The biggest advantage for the hippos is that while they can be shot in the water, they sink, so the only way to get the ivory is to get in the water, with the other hippos and with the crocodiles. Poachers have to REALLY want that ivory.
Actually hippos regain tons of HP when standing still/resting underwater. The fish have healing spells to clean the wounds.
also birtds cast healing spells on hippos skin and even inside mouths, like in croc mouths.
Yeah, I'd really love to see a video on players whose main gameplan is to heal other players, and which one is best at that.

man i love playing as hippo, such a jack of all trades animal, they're great in everything but intelligence hippos are especially good in groups too, I played in a large hippo faction once with some of the other top hippo players, easily took down a massive herd of elephants, so fun i wish people played hippos and elephants more they're fun and amazing animals in outside
That build is getting nerfed by the devs, at least in South América Server.

I mean, it's to be expected. Considering that hippos are one of, if not the most aggressive mammals on the planet. And there are plenty of people who are foolish enough to trifle with them.
Just killing humans doesn't make you S tier though. Orcas have no human kill registered and they're number 2. Dogs are the number 1 support class, thus S tier too, and even though they're the most widespread carnivore, their human kill percentage isn't even near to being important.

You forgot about the funniest ability this class has, instead of getting a useful perk on their playthrough, hippos class decided to invest on the postgame ability aftermath. Basically once they complete the game and die, their corpse can inflate because of gases accumulated, and eventually they explode on a small radious explosion, heavely wounding averyone around it The madmen really decided to be imposing even after death instead of having piercing resistance

As a hippo main, here are a few tips: 1. don't stay out of water too long or you'll lose your moisture and dry out. 2. the sweat is helpful, but use mud more often, kind of like a Barroth from monster hunter. 3. avoid growing with salty hippo players, they'll likely kill you and you have to restart growing.

I think the most optimal of the builds i've observed with this character is one that takes advantage of the crit stat. No defense can withstand the might of the hippo crit!
Player characters will *say* they prefer swiping enemies with their claws, but then they go and just use their massive jaws to bite other players many times instead. Buncha hippo crits, I tell ya.
