The new champs are shit. They now think challenging for a 2nd belt is a right forgetting that anyone who's done it so far has earned the chance to do it. Their behaviour is just going to make people see how great former champs like Izzy, Kamaru and Vok were during their title runs. Even Oliveira stitched up a good number of people in that division without going over his head.
we will miss the likes of Volk, Usman and Izzy with these new champs attitudes..

Going up isn’t a risk if u are large for ur division. If u are beltholder and u have you cut at it is easiest way to go.. risk - lose and u can always go back down. U haven’t been studied by opponents. Do it quick and div up holder doesn't have time to prep for u. Do it quick after last fight in div below and u keep momentum with no need to weight cut. Kudos and power. U hold up ur whole division = appear to be above ur peers. If u lose, U don’t lose ppv for matches below as u r still champ of other div. One win in new div confirms ur greatness.
I couldnt agree with you more I am well and truly sick of hearing these idiots asking for champ champ fights without even attempting to clean out there divison 1st. Illa is the biggest idiot out of the lot of them, man beat volk who wasnt at 100% coming off a devastating ko to islam and he acts like was the 1st to person to ko volk. Worst of all he wont fight the contenders in his division either.
Every single champion must defend his belt 4 or 5 times in his own division before challenging for second belt

I agree with the sentiment but Leon should not be in the same bucket as the others. He accepted fights vs Belal, Shavkat and Islam. Plus he didn't call out Dricus after his defence - he's just willing to fight anyone and everyone
I agree, my argument was mainly to how he was initially. He has changed since then.
Fighters should be forced to relinquish the belt prior to fighting up a weight class bc then they have something to lose. Bc rn it’s a “nothing to lose” game when fighters go up and if they lose just go back to being a champion in their own division
Honestly, I blame McGregor for setting the trend + easy legacy points + the nature of weight cutting + shit fighter pay. Fighters think they'll see success like McGregor by moving up and securing a second belt, failing to realize that what made McGregor a superstar was his charisma and rivalries in the UFC. People aren't going to be invested in a fight unless they care about the fighters and the backstory. Ex/ if Leon moved up to fight for the 185 belt and won, I seriously doubt it would have catapulted his stardom any further than it is now. Sure, beating Dricus / Izzy / whoever is impressive. But it don't make him Conor McGregor. Conor transcended the sport in a way that very few fighters ever will, and that's what they fail to realize. In practice, the pursuit of champ-champ status cloggs up the divisions as champions are now too busy training / recovering against opponents in multiple weight classes. For shallow divisions such as 205 and 265, its not as much of a problem, but in heavy stacked divisions such as 145 and 155, it holds up the line and slows them down. The pursuit of champ-champ status doesnt really do much for a fighters career. In some cases, it's a case of massive career mismanagement. Volkanovski is now 1 and 3 in his last 4 fights, getting knocked out twice in his last 2 fights because he tried to fight islam for the belt: a fate that was completely avoidable. And now, as a result, Volks career could potentially be ruined from this, and 155 gets held up because Islam is too busy fighting a 145er instead of a contender who's actually in his class. Also moving up a weight class is generally easier and more convenient for aspiring champ-champs since elite UFC competitors are all torturing themselves with 30 lb water cuts. So moving up a division to get a bit of a break from that is also nice. Volk weighed more than Islam on the night of their first fight. Pereira was killing himself to compete at 185. Ect
He defended to as featherweight but not any normal fw, he fought the goat that counts as a lw for me, and he dominated charles, who dominated dustin and justin. The only fight i see for islam is arman, all other fight than this one is just to keep islan activ

Islam Makachev was supposed to fight Charles Olivera. It's not his fault Charles got injured and Volk stepped on. Same happens now. Everybody is busy or ducking. Arman ducked him so he is to fight Dustin Poirier. After beating Dustin if he beats Arman, I think he has right to go to upper weight class.
I don't think it's correct to say Arman ducked Islam because fighting at 302 after fighting at 300 is an awfully quick turnaround.
Islam defended twice and Oliveira ducked once already, if he wins another two title defences he should get shot at the title
