  • It's still Fedor. He was an unshakable, Stoic Demi-God in his prime. Never a boring fight with him. Maybe him vs. Shemmy Schlit was boring but that was a crazy debut in pride. Schilt was a goddammed monster kickboxer in his day. Look that guy up if you haven't/

    @carson21211@carson212112 ай бұрын
    • So true! I also think Overeem in his prime before coming to the ufc was equally as terrifying. Unfortunately due to his style of striking he took a shit ton of punishment to the dome, which meant that by the time he got to the ufc his chin wasn't close to what it was, and that Big-Foot ko transformed him into a glass-canon from that point forward for the most part. Alot of people who didn't watch him at Strikefore, Dream, or in K1 - when in his prime, they assume that he always had a glass jaw - but that wasn't the case. His ko's came from a combo of him killing himself to slim down to fight at LHW first much of his career, combined with the fact that he had awful striking defense and constantly ate shots because of it. And the shots that would rock him or ko him, were shots that anyone woulda gotten flattened by, even those with the best of chins. It wasn't until after that Bigfoot ko that you started seeing him getting rocked by shots that he easily woulda just walked through a mere 2 years earlier. But since he had great td's, and surprisingly good grappling and submission game, added to being an elite offensive striker with terrifying ko-power, meant that back at Dream and Strikeforce he was nearly invincible, (especially when you add in his "horse meat" diet lol). Back then he was fucking terrifying

    • The new generation have no idea of how Pride fighters were perceived back then. Fedor, Crop and Wanderlei were terrifying their opponents before they even threw the first strike. No trash talk in the build up. Just pure violence.

    • @@8301TheJManyah and it didn’t help his image when he got absolutely nuked by Francis. Literally the most disturbing KO I’ve ever seen most people would have died from that punch. Overeem was terrifying in his prime on the sauce but he was loosing in Pride, I know for sure he got KOd by Chuck Liddell in pride so it was clear early on he was beatable.

      @WoodlandCaribou@WoodlandCaribou2 ай бұрын
    • @@WoodlandCaribou Yeah no de did get beaten up in pride, but remember he was cutting to 205 back then. He def was on the sauce later, but he most certainly was naturally on the bigger side of HW to begin with. Just look at his older bro, who was an inch shorter and yet would cut down to 240-something in his prime, and when walking around Alistair looked as big or bigger than Val was. Basically he'd cut so much that you could count on him to look great in the first five or so mins of the first round, but if the fight went beyond that he'd gas out horribly. Especially cuz Pride had a 10 min first round. So once he said ef it and fought as a HW, and bulked up, he was a totally different fighter. And that was right when Pride ended. And during that era, yeah he was pretty much unstoppable in mma or kickboxing, unless your name is Badr Hari that is.

  • For the most part, these guys do not deliberately weaponize the fear. It is simply a byproduct of their hard work, determination, and killer instinct. Some of them realize it and make efforts to amplify the effect on their opponents during media interactions, but the 3 factors above are the real source of it. Killer instinct (which is simply a kind of determination that is geared towards inflicting high levels of harm) being the scariest of those factors.

No matter how much technique you have..one good punch and it's all over. People said Tyson fury will outbox him, but Francis with his raw power, knocked Tyson down Everone was SCAERD of Ngannou... his inhuman power, his backstory, his look, everything. Just a scary man.

  • Merab is also a scary one His personality or look might not be scary but imagine being locked in for 15 or 25 minutes in the cage with a guy that does NEVER gas out and has so much pressure that you are just not able to do anything ,,The Machine" Never seen a more fitting nickname for a fighter

    • This was always my fear as a fighter. Not that I get knocked out. It’s that I gas out and I’m not even unconscious. I’m there for all of it but helpless.
