    • It truly does not. He talks like he cleared up the division when he fought nobody unless the champ, they gave him the title shot with a win on Emmett because the UFC need stars. What he has to do is to get tested against Holloway, Ortega and Yair, like he should prior to this last fight, and imo, is not going to end up good for him. He has done very little in FW to make those claims.

  • I agree with him. Most of them are old and not fit to fight for the title. Hollowey, Ortega, etc. There is no one in this division that can beat him yet and it's logical that he doesn't want to spend time on an absurd fight.

Don't think he would be interested in fighting against a another featherweight, moving to his division. Plus Topuria must prove himself in his current division. Until he cleared it, years could have passed by.

  • I like his confidence and I agree with him about rematching Volk (as much as I love Volk). Having said that, Conor won't be fighting any time soon, and Ilia should defend the title at least a couple of times before going for big money or legacy fights. I suspect Volk will get the rematch, but I can't see a different outcome.

  • Volk deserves a rematch. I believe Volk's timing and skills are superior. He was out timing Topuria and punishing him with the jab.Obviously he has to stay away from that hammer right hand of Topuria for at least 3 complete rounds which is hard to do.

  • I totally get that Topuria is trying to make money, and all... But Conor is not gonna make it at that weight. That dude may can't fight even as a lightweight at this point. I think, Topuria just has to clean his current division up. As boring and unspectacular as it sounds. Give him Max, Emmett, Ortega. Perhaps Evloev, Chikadze or Yair or a rematch with Volk. If he beats them all (which is expected), then he has the possibility of moving to the lightweight division.

Really impressed with him last night, he had me worried for Volk with that insane self confidence on fight week and now here we. Just a shame he is saying there’s nobody for him at FW and he chooses Conor’s name. No doubt he’s wanting Islam to move up before he does. Congrats though

  • I get why Topuria is mentioning McGregor, coz he's the big money fight, but McGregor would NEVER accept a 100% guaranteed beat down from Topuria ! IF (big IF) McGregor fights again, it'll be against cherry-picked competition he feels he stands some reasonable chance of beating (like Chandler.......though even that's a bit risky for him and his inactivity) !!

Things/talents/abilities naturally move on and evolve. McGregor sitting on an expensive yacht (don't blame him, incidentally), remaining inactive beyond his injury, taking steroids and frequently chirping from the sidelines in order to appear relevant ......does not a title contender make (or even a remotely decent/interesting fighter .......he's very much yesterday's news now)!

    • Well there really isn't a need for a rematch. It's sad, but it's the truth. It will happen again, and I want Alex to still have his amazing legacy intact. Alex will go down as the featherweight goat, and one of the best fighters of all time. Ilia is too young, too strong, has the best boxing in the ufc, and has insane power. I don't want to see Volk get knocked out again.

    • There is sometimes a "rematch" clause in their contracts. Failing that UFC will impose their will as much as they can. Sadly, I don't think Volk will improve the result a second time around after such a vicious KO.
