The Most Powerful Sedan Ever - Lucid Air Sapphire // First Look
The new Lucid Air Sapphire is the beginning of Lucid's performance sub-brand. It features three motors, carbon-ceramic brakes as standard, an aerodynamic package,
new sport seats, and track-tuned suspension.
It has insane performance numbers Sub-two seconds 0-60 mph, sub-four seconds 0-100 mph, sub-nine seconds quarter mile, and top speed exceeding 200 mph. Those numbers come at a cost though. The price starts at $249,000 US and $325,000 CAD. Join James as he gives us a tour at Lucid HQ in California.

Lucid made the Air SAPHIRE more Heavier and less EFFICIENT. Lucid motors is a FRAUD. bankrupt before 2023.
This thing seems criminally underrated. This is superior to the Plaid in basically every way, yet no one is really talking about it.
Looks way better than the regular Air. Actually quite a good looking car. Unfortunately at super car prices I can only care so much about it

It is just a car, electric cars lack soul and character outside of their design.

I already love the Lucid Air Dream Edition, but seeing how blue is my favorite color.. this is my new Automotive love affair, absolutely gorgeous!
A while back I thought that if I somehow owned a car company, I'd make the top performance trim level called the Azure. It'd only come in bright blue, and no other trim would be available in blue. You'd be able to look at the car and know that it was the top of the line model entirely from the paint job. Seems like Lucid had basically the same idea, except they actually, y'know, were able to make it happen. They even picked basically the same color! That's kinda neat.
I have a 3dr Sierra cosworth clone built on an Azure blue '86 Merkur XR4ti shell (it was cloned back in '89 with all OEM parts, dude who did it spent a fortune on the thing). It definitely breaks necks in that color.
People can get their lower trim model wrapped and your whole plan is ruined

There is a stretch of the M40 here in England that features a long gradual incline where in the 1980s a colleague once got his Lotus to 150 mph on the down. Beyond the acceleration, I would love to see how fast this beast could go pedal to the metal descending. And the resulting speeding fine in the mail a week later: "You were recorded exceeding the mandatory speed limit of 70mph by 135 mph and therefore received 9 points on your license, an 18 month driving ban, a penalty charge of £5000 and victim surcharge of £CoreBlimeymateyou'vebeenaverynaughtyboy." Wonderful! Can't wait. Lucid has so many great things going on. The pace will only pick up as the new factory begins to come online.

The more ev manufacturers the better. Cater to all markets.
"New" factory ? You mean "Current" factory because as far as I know they only have 1 and they are barely able to build a few thousand cars. This company will never make it through, it's a money black hole and they keep pushing in the wrong direction. Who needs a luxury car (which they think they are) that goes like a racing car ? They probably have never met luxury car owners because I do everyday and these people don't like to do 0 to 60 in 2sec... believe me. So this company is lost somewhere between luxury and racing cars and they actually achieve none of them. Very bad management driven by a nonsense comparison with Tesla. They are going bankrupt.
@Turbo999be Bu the it is the same with the Plaid, who would wanna do 0-60 in 1.99 seconds? Anyone who loves speed would, I would too. I understand the part about them possibly going bankrupt though. Just saying, IMO these cars are great.
@@Turbo999be have you seen their campus? There is like a billion dollars worth of construction being built right now.
Look at that! Large brakes on one of the fastest production cars out there! Who could have fathomed such an ingenious integration?
Not tesla, as the model s is incredibly underbreaked..
For price of 2 Plaids I'd expect so lol
@@RejectedEBoy *underbraked.
The air performance editions all take longer than a plaid model s to stop with the plaid at just 104' 60-0. So this was needed. Bet it's 650# more than a plaid as well as the reg dual motor airs are 500# over a plaid. So larger wheels, brakes, wider tires, another motor and likely a huge pack means heavy piggy indeed. 👍🏻
This must be the same types of brakes that Audi rs6 uses those are massive
I saw a maroon lucid last week. The regular Air. That is already a beautiful car. This takes that and somehow updates and improves almost all points. Incredible car.
Man, this has to be a car to have! Absolutely amazing!
They can't make the other one, what makes you think they are going to produce this thing? Okay maybe a couple for MBS but that's it. I hope they come with bone saws as standard.
I love the look, especially with the dark blue that they chose as the only color for it. I know that looks are subjective, but I think this has a much better presence than a model S. But then again, it is also way more expensive... Hopefully Lucid can actually deliver on long term quality.
They made this look a lot better than the regular lucids (especially the roof)
They did add the "Stealth" package to the regular Lucids (which gives the darker metal). But those rims and paint color are unique to the Sapphire.
This was low key one of the funniest reviews you guys have done.
sooo underrated !! 🔥🔥🔥
4:43 infotainment UI is still sluggish though, that's a lot of money to still have that. I hope it's just a software thing they can fix and not a limitation of the SoC driving all this resolution.
That is a frequent refrain about Lucid cars. They better get something done about it. I would never pay that much money for a car with a sketchy digital interface. Of course, I could never afford one of these, lol.
It's a car. Stop caring so much about the infotainment system and more about the actual driving experience.
@@marclangman4836 It's part of the experience and I'd be annoyed every time I used it with that much lag for a price this large. I'm allowed to care about what I care about.
They can’t produce their cars at scale, but release every week a new version of the Lucid Air.
True. I have concerns about the company's long-term viability. Good engineers, obviously, but no signs they actually know how to run an auto manufacturing company. For guys who were involved with standing up Tesla it doesn't seem like they took many lessons from it.
Right now they're pulling early tesla, selling halo vehicles while hopefully setting up means of production behind the scenes. I still lust after a camaro zl1 or a mustang gt350, actually affordable(ish) performance for regular people. This lucid does look pretty nice though
@@berengerchristy6256 If that's the playbook they're following, they seem to have forgotten the critical "build and sell units to generate free cash flow" part. On the other hand though, they had over $4B cash on hand as of June so they probably have time to turn things around.

What did it cost again? $250k?
Would be great to see in a few years the emphasis taken off of straight line acceleration (since all these EVs will make you vomit and hurt your back on acceleration) and instead place emphasis on lightness, handling and driving engagement rather than corner-to-corner drag cars. That's more a tesla comment than this, since we haven't seen how this handles and brakes (although, 10-pot akebonos would suggest they're taking it seriously).
The answer to your needs will come in the near future from the Mission R project. At the moment, the KIA EV6 GT is really close. I can recommend watching a short test drive on Misha Charoudin's channel. He was impressed and wanted to try this on the Nordschleife.
Porsche gt4e performance gives a clue where it's headed. Weighs 700# more than a racing 911 gt3rs but runs the same lap time's at Monaco. And it can do 30-40mins per charge at race pace with over 600hp on an 80kwh pack. Or 20+mins at 1000hp in qualifying trim.👍🏻 Lighter high perf 2dr sports evs are coming by 2025 from multiple manufacturer's. Mg cyberster is one, piech mark one is another, apex ap0 is another, Porsche ev boxter, lotus type 135, Toyota ev mr2, Lexus lfa ev replacement, lotus evija which is only 3700# that weight matches the awd adventador btw. I'm sure solid state cells using cell to pack and cell to chassis formats along with very compact motor/gearbox/inverters and or axial flow motors like the koenesigg quark setup all made at scale will help drop the weights down even further. Gordon Murray claims he's developing 2 evs that at road legal weights will be under 1200kgs. Heck even now a plaid model s is only 200# more than a widebody hellcat is with fuel. The base model s lr can also beat a hellcat and weighs the same overall. A model 3 sr is almost the same weight as a BMW 3 series base model and the awd model 3 weighs the same as a bmw m3awd weighs both are right around 3900# when loaded and fueled. The model x plaid is 1000# lighter than an escalade esv and beats it. Both of those are high hp awd 6 passenger suvs.
Lots of EVs are doing just that. The Taycan filled that gap left by the Model S for instance, but at the end of the day this car is trying to be the fastest luxury sedan you can buy. Things like the Tesla Roadster will be sport/track focused.
The porsche is your answer, they just broke record with the taycan turbo s on the Nurburgring, check their official KZhead channel for reference they posted the video, I've said it before the porsche, the audi and maybe probably the new dodge charger srt Daytona are my favorite electric cars of all time especially the taycan turbo s, because they focus on driving and track performance than straight line performance
The TH boys already drove a Lucid Air Dream edition through twisty canyons and said it handles and especially brakes amazingly well.
Brakes that can actually handle repeated stops is a huge performance and confidence advantage.
I was searching cars that can play Dolby Atmos and the Lucid Air was the only one. The performance speed specs are unreal but I'd really love to hear the sound system.
Just the fact that it has a full circular steering wheel, it has already won for me, even though it is kinda pricy.
