The 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance ($229,000 CAD, $170,500 USD) has stirred up quite a commotion as the newest EV to hit the market. With hopes of going toe to toe against the mighty Tesla Model S Plaid, the Dream Edition Performance packs 1,111 horsepower. Thomas and James are eager to see what the Lucid Air can do on a California canyon road. Will it be able to keep up with the sharp turns and bends despite being quite large and rather heavy? And just how livable is the interior on a day to day basis? Watch to find out what the guys think! We hope you enjoy the episode. SUBSCRIBE!

I can't believe Tesla makes a car as great as the Model S then ruins it with a rectangular steering "device", no stalks (turn signals are tiny little capacitive buttons) and a microscopic capacitive "button" for the horn, on only one spoke so you can forget about it finding it in an emergency or when the steering thing isn't straight. I wanted to buy a Model S, but these idiotic controls are a deal breaker.

    • @Today on the Internet; @IncognitoTorpedo --- And yet, despite these obviously *dangerous(!) changes to car design,* neither the U.S., nor any other government, says *"no"* to these car manufacturers. I have completely lost respect (what little I had) for government rules regarding car design---from headlights to interior control & visibility aspects (I'm looking at you, ever growing, already dangerously FAT, vision-blocking 'A' pillars). Governments dictate we car owners can't modify headlights, for example, because.....why? "Rules"? Supposedly because we'd make them blind oncoming drivers. Oh! And because all their regulations surrounding headlight design means the car buying public can be assured all new car headlights will illuminate the road *_SO_* well---and uniformly across brands and models. *_BZZZZZZZZZZTT !!!_* Of course *new car headlights are so **_incredibly_** inconsistently designed,* that many don't even pass the (American) IIHS test for illuminating the road ahead, and any driver who's driven on any road anywhere in the world in the past few years has been virtually blinded by oncoming *"safe", "government approved"* headlights after dark.

  • I love the production quality of your videos, these are really becoming very enjoyable to watch even if I'm not a huge fan of the car. So about the car... I have no issues with electric, in fact I have wanted to go electric for a long time. My issue is that everybody making electric cars is making them gimmicky. Curved screens, touch screen everything, so called minimalistic (actually cheap) interiors. I want an electric car, that looks amazing, drives amazing and has a long range. I want an electric car with an interior identical to a petrol cars interior. I've had touch screens, they're not safe or better, you have to take your eyes off the road to use them, give me physical buttons, an instrument cluster with a hood and a full center console. I own an X5 5.0i and an M850i today, I've just paid off the X5 and once the M850 is paid off the X5 will be replaced. I'd love that to be an all electric X5 that looks identical to the gas X5.

The Luci has MUCH cheaper materials than even the little C-Class! I mean it has cheap plastic all over, and even the alcantara or whatever that is and the leather(/pleather?) is not as nice. Even the dashboard has cheap materials right in the prime visibility areas, like the ventilation grilles, whereas Mercedes has vastly superior materials even in their entry level models.

    • @@chrismiddleton4733 I’ve found the opposite. Basically every car Tesla makes feels like an economy car with a crazy aftermarket screen. It doesn’t feel premium, like at all. This is coming from somebody who grew up being driven in BMWs, Mercedes, and Lexus cars with a Toyota 4Runner as our off-road vehicle. Honestly, a modern Toyota with maxed out trim (platinum IIRC) would be nicer than a Tesla. The Lucid has all the components needed that, with extra screens behind seats along with an “executive console” in the back and way more material customizability, they could go toe-to-toe with a Rolls Royce. The trim and interior experience of the Lucid is WORLDS better than a Tesla, I basically refuse to give Tesla my money until they make a Model S that actually justifies it’s S-class price tag.

It feels like a hug and a bowing homage to automotive history and future at the same time. The best-known competitor's product looks like a pair of maliciously folded arms in comparison. It's an "I told you so!" instead of the curiously proud "What do you think?" of the Lucid. And that makes all the difference in the world.

Lucid is building less expensive versions of the Air -- the lowest level has nearly 500hp and costs about $70k after the federal EV credit. These will go into production in 2022.
