Lucid Air v Porsche Taycan Turbo S: DRAG RACE
The Lucid Air is HERE, and it’s going up against one of the fastest electric cars we’ve featured on our channel - the Porsche Taycan Turbo S!
So let’s see how these all-electric animals stack up. Starting with the Porsche, it’s equipped with two electric motors that can deliver 761hp and 1,050Nm of torque. It’s pretty heavy, mind, tipping the scales at 2,295kg, and it’s also pretty pricey, coming in at £148,000.
However, the Porsche looks almost cheap compared to the Lucid, which costs an eye-watering £193,000! But then again, it’s not the price that’s more than the Porsche, so is the price! It’s also equipped with two electric motors, but they combine to deliver an amazing 1,111hp and 1,390Nm! It’s also slightly heavier, weighing in at 2,383kg.
So surely it’ll be a clean sweep for the more powerful Lucid, right? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!

I'm guessing it probably be traction and transmission or possibly The motor controller.

Another thing is that Porsche has 761 hp only during launch control (they call it overboost). When cruising it goes down to 625 hp. It would be really cool and probably more useful (overtaking etc.) if they allowed driver to activate overboost with press of a button (similar to sport response).
Taycan Turbo S has 0 to 60 with overboost of 2.46 seconds. Without Overboost, it has 2.97.

Craziest thing is that the Lucid Air Sapphire can do a sub 9.0 second 1/4 mile, which is 1.3 seconds faster than Matt ran here with the dual motor version.

For EVs, it would be great to see a 0-100-0 (mph) test, perhaps instead of the sound test. We know they’re fast, but it would be a good overall snapshot of their performance in acceleration AND braking in one
It would but then that would eliminate the need for the brake test as you’ll be able to see which brakes better already.
@@WEZ4136 I see your point, but taking this video as an example: the Lucid is quicker over the 1/4 mile, but the Taycan stops better. But what happens when both are put together? The Lucid will start braking earlier but the Porsche might edge out a win, only one way to tell: a 0-100-0 race
Fifth Gear did this with a Taycan in a challenge against a Panamera. It was absolutely mental how quickly it did it. Check it out.
I think a slalom test would be a good idea. Just a quick easy way to see speed and cornering stability. Just need cones.
I'd rather see five laps on a track. Be nice to see them in corners.

I love seeing the banter between Matt and Yanni, they make the races so entertaining! 👏 Lucid really nailed it with their performance, and it's cool to see how the Taycan keeps up even with less power. Yanni totally jumped the start in the first race, and Matt did it in the third race. Such a fun video! Looking forward to more races with these two. 😄

Taycan Turbo S has 761 bhp but that's only when using the overboost mode, which is activated only when using launch control. On a roll the Taycan has "only" 625 hp, cause there's no overboost.
Yes. Taycan without the overboost only had 594.
It was communicated like that, but for some reason, the Taycan activates boost mode in sport plus sometimes as well. Only for a few seconds again though.
It's actually due to the overheating that they only allow it for launches.

The i7 and eqs would be irrelevant as they've done a drag race between them and the taycan and the Porsche dropped both of them.

It would definitely be interesting, but as long as manufacturers arent purposely lying about it, those electric motors shouldn't get anywhere close to the hp differences that some combustion engines might have. Significantly less points of failure/power losses.

Matt actually did Jump, just slowdown the playback time to 0.25 and watch carefully. Also the Lucid left the line first in the 2nd race if you slow down the footage to 0.25.

I've watched the footage over a few times, Matt did in fact jump the start in third round. The first time I watched it, it already seemed too fast, but 0.25x playback revealed he timed his launch a bit too early and actually went sth like 0.05-0.07s before hands started moving. Very good effort, but most definitely a jumped start.

Lot of credit to Porsche for their Taycan beating a newer car with +350hp for the first 100 or so yards (and also probably faster 0 to 60 time). Lucid has still some work to do with their launch system or go to two speed transmission as well.

They have a set time table. Even when they have a car ready to be released they wait. That's how many companies do things. It would be really interesting if these videos compared handling as well. For one example, you could try to find an open enough area where you could paint a corner with tons of run off. The car with the highest minimum speed through that corner would win.
