Tesla Cybertruck v Hummer EV: DRAG RACE

Mat has returned to the Tesla Gigafactory in Austin Texas, and he’s got his hands on the all-new Cybertruck! So of course, you know what that means… It’s drag race time!
Naturally, there was only one competitor that we had to compare this all-electric pick-up to - the Hummer EV! The question is, which will come out on top?
Well, let’s check out the stats. Starting with the Cybertruck, it rolls up equipped with three electric motors, and they combine to produce 845hp and 930Nm of torque. The starting price of the dual-motor edition is around $49,000, but for this tri-motor Cyberbeast edition, it’ll cost you around $96,000! In terms of weight, the Cybertruck tips the scales at just over 3 tonnes.
Think that’s heavy? Well, that’s nothing compared to the Hummer, which comes in at 4,110kg!! Just like the Tesla, the Hummer is equipped with three motors, but it’s also up on power, producing 1,014hp and 1,485Nm! The price is also slightly higher than the Cybertruck, coming in at around £109,000.
So how will this one play out? Will the extra tonne of weight prove decisive? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

    • Tires. The hummer's tires are road tires and the cyber truck has all terrain tires which are horrible when it comes to braking. If they both had the same tires the cyber truck would win by several meters.

    • No, not really. Difference is very small, well within the margin of error, and the braking distances at 70mph is mostly dictated by tire friction. Most modern cars (as they are known in the UK), have relatively similar braking distances despite weight differences. This was quite within expectation and what is normal.

    • @@user-my4xu4gf1z Because the Cybertruck uses 123kw sized battery while the hummer uses 230kw one. You can also get a range extender for the Cybertruck that bumps the range to about 470 miles.

    • @@AllanSustainabilityFan You might be able to get a range extender. If you can get it, most likely it need to be installed by tesla. Then you lose at least 1/3 of the bed. Seems pretty impractical to me. And Tesla might decide to never make it.

    • @@4literv6 Even better, they ran an 11.3 quarter mile with 33% battery charge. All runs were between 11.0 - 11.3, no matter the state of the battery charge. No prepping or pre-conditioning of the battery either.

I loved seeing Jason cammisa a somewhat well known sometimes tesla hater feeling some kinda way about loving the ct/cyberbeast mostly because of the engineering aspects of it. His hagerty video was just top shelf and so was the 1hr+long curmudgeon episode discussion of the ct. Loved he shared his own dragy screen shot of a 2.58s 0-60mph run in the tri motor cyberbeast. 👍🏻😀 And that swarmy top gear muppet got slapped down hard by Franz and Lars in his ct episode on camera no less! Lars the chief engineer for ALL of tesla said he loves having a boss with an engineering&physics background who he doesn't have to dumb down ANYTHING for. Also him&Franz admitted it was their side project design that is the final ct design(not elons fever dream as has been so widely claimed. They both admitted to building a clay full size model and as soon as Elon saw it he commissioned the first prototype with a 90 day deadline(Lars said it took 93 days to build the first ct. 😎

    • In Spain we have a new expansion in the law which increases the maximum weight of the vehicle you’re allowed to drive with the regular car licence from 3500 Kg to 4250 Kg.

  • It's always useful to have side-by-side comparison data to get a sense of the car landscape, so, thank you for putting them up. What I think you can do differently/better in your videos, is to add a length bar as a percentage of the benchmark, to show what is higher or lower than the other (like when they do tennis player match statistics) like at 2:40, which is a more intuitive way of making sense of the data at a first glance without having to look at numbers just yet. When you have the floating numbers above the cars, put them in them in a percentage-of-a-circle, like at 2:43?
