Welcome to the most incredible petrol v hybrid v electric drag race you’ve ever seen!
We’ve got Mat in the all-electric Tesla Model X PLAID, and he’s going up against the Ferrari SF90 and Lamborghini Aventador SVJ!
So let’s see how these three powerhouses compare. Starting with the Tesla Model X, it comes with three electric motors which combine to make an eye-watering 1,020hp and 1,020Nm of torque! But of course, this is a family-friendly SUV, so it’s not light, tipping the scales at 2,539kg!
The SF90 is much lighter, weighing in at just 1,570kg! In terms of power, it’s packing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 coupled with three electric motors to produce an almighty 1000hp and 800Nm!
Finally, we have the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, which amazingly is the least powerful car in this line-up, with its 6.5-litre V12 able to put down 770hp and 720Nm of torque. However, it's the lightest car in this line-up, coming in at 1,525kg.

@@nick_0 That’s not how horsepower and torque work… The sf90 has the same horsepower only at high rpm… The electric thing on the other hand has almost all its torque available instantaneously and the horsepower soon after, it’s about the power and torque curves and the power delivery. Anyway, when people decide that they just wanna go fast but don’t wanna stop when there is something in the road because the brakes are too horrible, they will all buy teslas…

All that tech, hybrid, weight saving, R&D, crazy bhp.......and money..... To beat a 911 turbo S by 0.1 on the quarter mile....on its third attempt I might add. The Porsche bangs out that 10.1 consistently and at what...640hp flat 6 vs 986bhp V8 & 3 electric motors. The Ferrari looks inefficient with its numbers but people are going crazy for it?

Is the Plaid on winter tires again and the others on summer tires, Matt? I think you should give us the tire details as well for the next videos.
These guys are playing people, there’s no explanation for such behaviour. They got roasted on their last Model X plaid video for using winter tires and now they did exactly the same thing. Ferrari and lambo were both on slick tires. I don’t don’t wanna offend them but I can’t believe they’re so stupid not to understand such a simple fact.

The Plaid came straight from Germany where they need winter tyres and there was no time to swap tyres. They could have mentioned that it was on winter tyres but other than that there is no conspiracy theory here.

Winter tires have great traction. They are softer compound that bite down. Hard to break them loose, so don't lose power from them spinning. That's kinda the point of them though.

It's cold weather, you bet those non-studded winter tires will bite substantially better than the summer performance tires the other cars have.
They have great traction on snow/ice, not on dry solid surface and warm temperature - the summer tires have a huge advantage there.

Yeah. The Model X plaid with the right tires does a 9.6 second quarter mile. So 10 seconds is very slow for a model x plaid.

I don't know why this is a thing 'oooh it's on winter tyres it's so unfair!' - it's cold and damp so the winter tyres have a distinct advantage over cold summer performance tyres for launches and braking.
The real question is why use a Model X rather than a Model S?
That model X is definitely still on winters. Hey Carwow it might be helpful to mention which cars have something that either isn’t standard or isn’t consistent across the rest of them. Obviously these are just for fun so it doesn’t really matter, but it would be nice to know just a reference in the future. Anyways loved the video!

What’s impressive with the Tesla is the fact it’s a tonne heavier than the rest and it still took the launch and both kept up with the Ferrari and beat the lambo. It’s impressive even if you do prefer internal combustion.

Depends on the temperature, winter tires can outperform summer tires at colder temperatures. But there can be huge differences between summer tires too.

Guys I love the head to head races you put on KZhead, but can you PLEASE just quickly clarify things that are important like "stage of charge' and whether your warmed up in drag race mode (or similar features in non-teslas)? These are all important factors that can affect the electric vehicles by HUNDREDS of horsepower and small but measurable 1/4 mile times. Please keep up the awesome videos!

Not really it’s cold in the Uk at the moment, probably an advantage considering the other two cars are on high performance Summer tyres that don’t work in these temperatures.
The Winter tyres are softer. Its an advantage in the winter.

But then they could complain about stopping distance and use the trope it has bad brakes. Of course it's utter bullshit because they use the wrong tires, but hey this is entertainment. Also a disadvantage for the quarter mile, the plaid X would have won everything if they all had the same tires, or even the stock tires. Stock tires would have been fair, but Tesla does sell winter tires, but that's not the stock option.
@@timmos184 But the Plaid Teslas really do have bad brakes compared to supercars. They're good brakes for every day use, but bad for racing. Tesla do offer carbon ceramic brakes as an option.

I work at Tesla and on the model x plaid there's a setting called insane acceleration where it overrides the Teslas battery and lowers the cars suspension giving out 30% more power but the car was still very high not even lowered
The Tesla is on winter tyres, that should have got a mention. It really didn’t help it in the drag race or the brake test. That said the brakes on Model S/X are not up to the job.
Yeah. The optional carbon ceramics should definitely be standard on the Plaid version. But tires did make it even worse.
Well it is winter now. Summer tyres would not help it stop any better, probably start would be same or worse. You kinda need road to be at 25+ c for tyres to be sticky. I think they run at 10-15 c. Tesla is known for people crashing and bad breaks in us 🤣. But acl is amazing.

One of the first things I did after collection was put my X 100 D on a weighbridge. 2800 kg. There's no 'weigh' on earth your plaid is 250 kg's lighter. For reference your X Plaid would be 200 kg's more than a RR Phantom.

I like being able to hear and feel my engine as I drive. It's something that you can't get with an electric vehicle. Not to say electric vehicles aren't good, it's just a different experience.

Was that tesla on winter tyres again? That SF90 is insane, those electric motors are definitely helping it launch.
Are you complaining about it? Winter tires are softer than summer tires and have significantly more grip. If you use them in summer, they will wear off much faster than summer tires, because more grip means more wear. The breaking distance is the shortest possible and the launch is fastest possible.

Model X is on winter tires, it gravely affects the acceleration and the braking since the tarmac is dry.
Model X put its fastest time here for carwow, whereas bot Ferrari and Lamborghini missed their best times by 0.4 of a second (9.6; 10.4). Winter tires are not a disadvantage under these circumstances, UHP Summer tires as on the other ones are.

@@PassportGaming which is on a prepped drag strip and not a cold, dirty tarmac. The comparison between the exact same cars on the exact same runway but in different weather conditions (as done here) shows, that the UHP Summers of the supercars here are a disadvantage compared to the Tesla in the cold, because they are significantly slower as tested in better weather, whereas the Tesla times are equal or even better than tested before.
