Flat Earth rising: meet the people casting aside 2,500 years of science

2019 ж. 4 Ақп.

Though not a new phenomenon, flat Earth theory has enjoyed a huge resurgence recently. A YouGov poll indicated that a third of Americans aged 18 to 24 were unsure of the shape of our planet, in spite of scientific proofs from Pythagoras to Nasa. Why has this happened now, and what does it tell us about society today?

    • Correction: Csting aside 500 years of PSUEDOSCIENCE! Not only is there over 200 proofs we do not live on a spinning traveling ball but it is Common Logic & Rational Reasoning. The Salt Flats in Bolivia Alone prove we couldnt possibly be on a ball. You cannot have this much flat land-{10,852 Km2 } on a ball Period! Water Always lays flat & level & always needs to be contained. Due to the Self-evident Fact that water is FLUID! They call it SEA LEVEL for a reason. Liquid cannot conform itself around shapes especially around the exteior of a ball. At 130,000 feet the horizon Still rises to our eye level. That is Impossible on a ball of any size. There are Facts & Evidence behind the flat earth. People cannot live upside down Yet still be right side up. That is Ludicrous & physically Impossible. Science should be repeatable, demonstratable, testable measurable & observable. Indoctrination & cognitive dissonance is strong. That is why it is important to leave pride/ego behind and critically think using a honest and humble open-mind when you do your investigation & research into the Facts & Evidence. "Scientist substitute mathematics for experiments than wander through equation after equation BUILDING A STRUCTURE THAT HAS NO RELATION TO REALITY". Nikola Tesla There is no REAL science being put aside. "Everything hidden & covered will be revealed". In order to find the Truth you have to Love all truth & pursue it.

      @athenanelson8424@athenanelson84243 ай бұрын
    • (there's a lot here, sorry) It's very trivial to understand, but you have to think about it for yourself. Look at the picture at the time I marked. If you were to create a small container as shown in the picture, the water would not look like that. Why? Because the water is being pulled towards the ground beneath you, towards Earth, therefore there would be no reason for the water to be curved in the container, that is illogical thinking. However, due to our tiny scale, at any given point, the surface of Earth appears flat, when in reality the entire surface of Earth is curved. We all understand that Earth is huge, regardless of your notion of it's shape, and there is one constant that you must be aware of: Consider for a moment in your mind, that Earth is in fact a sphere, just for this scenario. That's an insanely large sphere. Now what would happen if you put a human onto that insanely large sphere? What would they see? Well, considering the size difference of a human compared to earth (Earth is about 3.5 million times larger than a human), the ground would appear completely flat, because they are so small compared to the scale of Earth that they would be seeing such a tiny fraction of Earth's curvature, so much so that it would be unnoticeable. Another way of thinking about it would be to think about an ant on a tennis ball. As the ant walks around the spherical tennis ball, it would definitely feel the curvature, because each step the ant takes, it covers a decent percentage of the tennis balls curvature, so the ant would be able to tell that the surface is curved. Moreover, it would also be able to see the curvature, due to the fact that the tennis ball is not that much larger than itself. However, what would happen as you started to increase the size of the tennis ball? As you increase the size more and more, each step the ant takes would be a lesser distance around the ball's curvature. Therefore, the ground beneath the ant would be more flat, because it is standing on such a small percentage of the sphere's total curvature. If the tennis ball and ant were to reach the same ratio as Earth is to a human (3.5 Million : 1), the ant would no longer be able to see or feel any curvature at it's scale. One final simple way to think about it is just to imagine looking at a 2d circle, and imagine zooming in on some point on its surface. Keep zooming. Keep zooming. Keep zooming, and keep zooming. As you zoom in, more and more, the surface appears more and more flat. Why? Again, because as you zoom in, you are looking at such a small portion of its curvature, that it becomes unnoticeable. This is the most important thing to understand: Upon zooming in very closely, the surface of the circle will appear COMPLETELY FLAT, even though you know in reality, the shape you are zoomed in on, is in fact curved. So all I want to say here is, taking into account Earth's size, it is an undeniable fact that IF Earth is indeed a sphere, it would still appear flat at our scale, and the same goes for water that resides on Earth as well. It appears flat from a human's miniscule perspective, but is in fact curved at it's total scale. So saying "Earth and water look flat at our scale!!" and "We never see water curve!!" are completely illogical statements to make when discussing the shape of Earth.

Why doesn’t it fly off or move, not accounting for bumpiness? Literal checkmate - it’s because of gravity and relativity. It’s because the spinning ball isn’t in a medium of no gravity-? So it doesn’t have its’ own forces attracting water. Compare that to having a vacuum chamber setup and putting water in it. You’ll see the water clump up into a ball due to gravitational forces pulling into itself.

I thought I warned you about that. Read carefully this time: The point is, the Greeks DIDNT ever at any point "use sticks" to prove earth is round. You seem to imply that they did. If geometry and trig were things your brain commonly employs, you would immediately realize that Eratosthenes exercise did not prove earth is round, or curved. They "used sticks" to MEASURE the SIZE of an earth which had been known to be a sphere for at least 250 years prior. And that prior knowledge had nothing to do with sticks.

The desire to be apart of something bigger than yourself, to be in on a "secret," to feel like you know a truth that no one else does is such a power force. One video, 360 miles away across water took 90+ seconds to see it when it was over 20km up in the air. Not one flat earther has been able to explain it without resorting to word salad. Most of those asked to explain it ignore it entirely.
