Professor Dave Humiliates Flat Earther David Weiss (DITRH Debunked Live)

For months now, hordes of idiots have been lurking in my comments sections, aggressively insisting that I need to debate David Weiss, because he's some kind of flat earth messiah who is undebunkable, and I should cower in the face of his might. Of course I ignored them because he is a two-bit charlatan and who cares what idiots say, but then a channel with almost 700k subscribers asked if I would debate Weiss on his channel, and I figured it might be a good way to pick up a few subscribers, and also humiliate a flat earth icon irreparably in the process. And folks, that's exactly what happened. From the moment he opened his mouth to the moment we left the stream, I took every single word he said and demonstrated in real time how David Weiss is a science illiterate moron that doesn't understand basic concepts learned in elementary school, just like every other pointless flat earth grifter. Anyone who watches this exchange and still refers to him as a credible source of information is in complete denial of reality and hopelessly unreachable. Of course that describes most flat earthers, so I'll see you dummies in the comments section complaining about what a meany mean-pants I am instead of admitting to yourself that you are completely unable to address a single thing I said in this absolutely airtight, relentless destruction of a toxic influence on society. Toodles!

  • Hey you! Yes you there, the thousandth person coming down here in a hissy fit to tell me how mean and nasty and unprofessional I was to that poor, poor, ignorant flat earther. Stop. You have zero perspective on this situation. Weiss is a con man who lies for a living. He knows he's wrong, he just spews a script of lies to make money on the internet. Politeness is a window to gish gallop and spread more lies, and you can clearly see how angry he got when I pinned him on every lie in his script, pressing him to respond to things he knew he couldn't respond to. He does not deserve respect. He does not deserve decency. He deserves annihilation. He deserves public humiliation. His remaining followers are impervious to facts and logic, so the only thing that works is a demonstration of what a sniveling, lying, pathetic little toddler he is. Also, no, he was not polite. The first words out of his mouth were to slander me regarding the content on my channel, and all he did was call me a "dick" every time I proved him wrong. He's a douchebag. And guess what? Even if he wasn't a con man he still should be treated this way, because politeness toward this "issue" would give the illusion of two "opinions" with equal footing. There aren't. The earth is objectively a sphere, as we've known for thousands of years, and anyone who says otherwise is actively calling all of science a lie, and literally all scientists liars. That's insanely offensive. This is how you deal with flat earth con men. Get on board or get out of the way. Got it?

I wholeheartedly believe that this guy deserved everything you gave to him, but I disagree with the general sentiment that politeness toward a person you have a disagreement with gives weight to their argument. You can unwaveringly insist that someone is blatantly wrong about something without insulting them. One more time to be absolutely clear though: Fuck FlatEarthDave

It's an experiment in and about _geometry,_ and the geometry is valid provided there is relative rotation, regardless of where the centre of rotation is. If you think about it, it's only really once people started understanding gravity and its consequences that they had a way of distinguishing between geocentric and heliocentric models.

One day, seemingly randomly, we were quizzed on what shape the earth was. My girlfriend said a globe, and I said, instinctively, "well it's obviously not f***ing flat, is it!?". The response I got surprised me, when one of them replied to say (and trust me, this is a direct quote that is seared into my mind) "I don't think anyone knows what shape it is", while the other (highly nonconfrontational) friend walked off into another room. The subject got instantly changed! Love those guys, but that has unfortunately left us questioning them somewhat!

    • I don't think you're far off, but flip it around. They're convinced the government can't be trusted, at all. They're convinced what it does and says is a conspiracy. So anything coming from it is poisoned. So when it claims the earth is round that alone makes the concept of roundness suspect. Because why would such a corrupt entity focus so hard on convincing everyone it's round. Then they enter into every discussion with the decision already made that it's flat. Everything goes downhill from there.

There is no way for this to be a productive conversation. "Oh your model believes this so this doesn't make sense." "Uhm no actually we believe this and this is how it works." "Yeah well here's this other thing..." "I'm sorry do you want to take back what you said or in some way show your growth in understanding of my position or at least acknowledge that you represented my position incorrectly?" "No because I have other points." Waste of fuffing time.

    • Yes, it's a distract tactic. In a true debate, you would refute with counterpoints, but the flat earther doesn't have counterpoints. Except at the very end where he wanted to fight about the seasons. But I have to wonder... how do flat earthers explain the seasons? I think he was insinuating that the sun gets closer to the flat earth XD I'm dying from laughter. And yes the Earth orbits the sun closer at times, and it does have SOME impact, it's what is called solar minimum and maximum, but not like the seasons. Humans have been documenting the Earth's tilt, the solstices particularly for ages...

      @schuylerwindham@schuylerwindhamКүн бұрын
  • I believe the problem with the flat Earth proponent, around the 59-minute mark, is that he fails to grasp the immense size of the Sun. While it may appear similar in size to the Moon during an eclipse, it is actually 1 astronomical unit (AU) away from Earth (obvs). The Sun is incredibly massive. For simplicity, I often envision its diameter as a hundredth of an AU. I find it fascinating how the distances to planets in AU are so easy to remember: 0.4, 0.7, 1, 1.5, 5, 10, 20, 30. Just remembering that, along with the fact that 1 AU is approximately 93 million miles, allows you to know all the distances for pub quizzes and impressing your friends.

Literally _no_ dependency on any third party. There you can experience 17 hour days for yourself. Or you can look to the south to see the Southern Cross, while talking on the phone to your FE buddy in South Africa (only 6 hours ahead) if he can also see it in the south. Heck, for the issue of impossibly long days in the southern summer you don't even have to go that far: the FE model breaks down _noticeably_ far sooner. Days in the south should _always_ be shorter than days in the north, because of simple geometry (larger radius = larger diameter of the sun's path; but still only 24 hours to cover it = sun has to move quicker = days are shorter).

There are references to the earth as a globe everywhere including The Canterbury Tales and medieval manuscript illustration, which I have seen... Also, the Greeks had already proven the earth is a sphere centuries earlier. The nonsense about the medievals believing in a flat earth was never a “thing” until the 18th and 19th centuries as part of Protestant backlash against Catholicism - they made up nonsense to argue that medieval Catholics were stupid. Sadly there seem to be a few stragglers living in 2024 are now taking all of this seriously. Sad.

Muslim and muslim scholars overwhelmingly agree that the earth is round and that there is no evidence for a flat shape in the religious scriptures. That doesn't stop a few fringe groups here and there (like my relative) to spew that nonsense and force an interpretation that reaches so far just to, for some reason, prove the earth is round. It's maddening the lengths they go to to mislead people. Hopefully one day I will have the courage to send your videos to my relative. P.S. As a Muslim I feel like concepts such as evolution are not necessarily contradicted by religious texts. It's ALWAYS a possibility that the two could coincide, but so many people are close-minded about this. Not to count the inevitable incest needed to continue the human race from only two people! The curse of literal interpretations I guess.

And naturally you wouldn't either if you watched just the boat disappearing from bottom to top behind the curvature. I suppose you didn't wait to observe that event? The real speed of translation of the earth is 30000 meters per second (or 67108,089 miles per hour) so already if you don't get the correct number no wonder you don't accept it right? That was obviously your only grip with that aspect right? The stars aren't fixed in the sky, a simple timelapse shows that and actual experts know that for example constellations will get deformed as time pass. Not even the north star has always been the same (once it was alpha draconis now it isn't) "Do I understand why we can see things significantly further than earth curvature would allow for" No you don't, otherwise you would have known about atmospheric refractions which is known from everyone that use a bit of optic. Ask Joshua Notwicky about it "Do i understand why we never went back to the moon?" Because it didn't bring that much money in and was therefore that well funded "Do i understand how we managed to get through a radiation belt, before we knew it existed, and before we set protection (lead) for it?" By going through where it's the thinnest "Do I understand why no other country wanted to walk on the moon" Because unmanned missions are cheaper and safer amongst other things "Do I understand why the moon, a solid rock no less, is transparent enough for me to see stars through it?" It isn't and you didn't see stars through it "Only people with permission can go to see Antarctica" The only permission you need is the one protecting you from the cold "Dont you think that is weird? You are being told stay away" You aren't "Why the pacts? why the unusual (non existent usually) agreement, honouring the control of this region? " What pact? The treaty of Antartica? The one declaring that you can't militarise Antartica or declare control over it? Kinda put a dent in the idea that you can't approach Antartica "Do i understand why we have no real pictures of earth from space?" We actually do, unless you can prove that all of them are completely fake Same thing for the moon "You all think you have seen the image of a black hole, and have no idea how retarded that is. " Well it's well known that the photo was made possible thanks to the disk of accretion around the black hole which did reflect light. Clearly you had no idea how retarded that paragraph of yours was "99.9% of people chatting crap on here, one way or the other, really dont know one way or the other. That you think you do is a healthy human dose of ignorance and a need to feel like you understand..... Which you do not." Still with the opinion? Give it up already "What do you actually know?" I know that earth is a sphere and that you can go to Antartica. The two have even been combined in the transglobe expediction. If I say more I'll look even more pedantic than I already do "I am worried for our species - And its because almost all of us are morons, and we re so deep in that well, that we cant even understand the depths of our own stupidity and ignorance...." Yes those are legitimate concern. Doesn't give you the right to suddenly ignore all pictures you don't like though "why are you talking like you are not a glorified ape???" For that reason, I bought this book: 100 Proofs Earth is Not a Globe. I honestly believed and expected it to contain well written, thought provoking proofs. However, the vast majority of the proofs were of a form similar to this: [statement that clearly demonstrates a lack of understanding of an area of science] followed by, therefore the earth is not a globe. A good deal of the others were simple personal incredulity: I can't believe that, therefore that's not true, therefore the earth is not a globe. I had several discussions with this co-worker. I even created a diagram based on the flat earth model to demonstrate that what we see does not agree with the flat earth model. What I learned from these discussions is that science is wrong, math is wrong, geometry is a lie. What I eventually realized was that flat earth is a religious belief and like all religious beliefs it does not require scientific proof. For that reason, providing scientific proof that counters the flat earth model falls on deaf ears.

    • @James Bruce I have asked them why would everyone be lying to you. Why keep up with a worldwide conspiracy that involves every scientist, all teaching of science and go out of the way to adapt science and mathematical equations for systems that are based on the world being a sphere to keep up with this lie. Any time I do ask these questions they either change the subject, go on some crazy rant and call me stupid or just block me.

However, due to personal negative experiences they lack so much trust in authorities that we cannot agree on any basic level of science with them. I’m really interested in understanding why this phenomenon is seemingly increasing in most societies nowadays

    • @@samcarpenter9424 if you live near a big lake you can see the curvature yourself, get some binoculars on a day with very little wind, pick a tree or any tall landmark across the lake, and this is the important part, lie down. if the lake is 5 miles across the curvature will cause the other side to be around 9 feet under the horizon, if you're standing the difference of around 3 feet can be difficult to spot, but near the ground you'll be able to see your landmark become obscured as you lay down.
