Eric Dubay Sucks at Life (200 Flat Earth “Proofs” Debunked)

2024 ж. 25 Сәу.
628 096 Рет қаралды

It's been quite some time since I checked in with flat earthers, those pathetic grifters peddling the dumbest hoax in the history of the human species. But I felt compelled to revisit the subject in order to debunk the fraud who is still regarded as some kind of flat earth messiah, Eric Dubay. His ridiculous pamphlet commonly referred to as "200 Flat Earth Proofs" was just a rehashed version of a pamphlet from nearly two centuries prior by a fellow named Sam Rowbotham. So what could these proofs be? Do any of them hold water? Not a single one, in fact. However idiotic you think they're going to be, I promise they are much worse. Watch me obliterate them all rapid fire!

    • I don't know how some of these things work and I don't understand the explanation, but I understand *THAT* they work and honestly I can't be arsed to break my brain over these things, the earth isn't flat, still don't really understand how summer and winter happen but honestly I understand that they happen and thats all I really need to know. (Mostly just confused because I thought it was about how the earth is further away from the sun or closer depending on the time of year, as in the earth doesn't orbit the sun in a perfect circle but rather like an oval shape, so why is it summer on one side and winter on the other side at the same time?)

      @pikariocraftf2802@pikariocraftf28026 күн бұрын
    • @@pikariocraftf2802 seasons happen because the axial tilt of the earth as it orbits around the sun causes either the northern or southern hemisphere to be tilted toward the sun while the other hemisphere is tilted away, the hemisphere tilted toward the sun is summer the hemisphere tilted away from the sun is winter

  • Flat earth fails on every point. The geocentric flat earth has... • No working model, or map. • No way to determine proper distances, or directions between two point on the earth not sharing the same longitude. • No explanation for how the sun and the moon circle the earth, or how the sun migrates from the tropic of Capricorn to the tropic of Cancer and back over the year. • No idea why the ancient Greeks such as Pythagoras, Aristotle, Eratosthenes and Aristarchus believed the earth was a sphere. • No idea what P and S shockwaves detected by seismology equipment tells us about the internal structure of the earth, and the shape and dimensions of the surface of the earth. • No idea what powers the sun and the stars. • No idea of the distance to the stars. • No ideas as to why almost all stars don't appear to change position in the sky from opposite sides of earth's orbit around the sun when the phenomena of parallax says they should, and why we can only use the parallax method for measuring the distance of stars that are closest to the earth. Luckily, Polaris is one that we can determine the distance to using parallax, because it is also a Cepheid variable star, which allows the distance to be measured to much more distant stars where the parallax method not longer works. • No idea of the distance from the earth to the planets, or even much about them at all. • No idea why binary stars obey Newton's law of gravitation. • No explanation as to why we can only see 59% of the total surface area of the moon when, from a flat earth perspective we should be able to see most of it, including the dark side of the moon. • No idea why the moon appears upside down in the southern hemisphere compared to how it looks in the northern hemisphere, and why the phases of the moon are on opposite sides of the Moon, and why it looks circular from all vantage points on the earth. • No idea why sunspots rotate in the opposite direction in the southern and northern hemispheres, or even what sun spots are. • No believable explanation for how GPS is implemented across the world. • No explanation as to why aircraft carry ring laser gyros onboard capable of detecting the rotation of the earth. • No idea how it is possible to develop gravitational maps of the earth's surface, or why anyone would want one, or how they could be used. • No explanation for how eclipses work, especially lunar eclipses, or how to predict them correctly. • No idea why the Humber bridge, the Verrazzano Narrows bridge are built to account for the earth's curvature. • No idea why CERN, LIGO and the Stanford linear accelerator vacuum rings and arms are constructed to take account of the earth's curvature. • No idea why physicists working on LIGO, the gravity wave detector, were awarded Nobel prizes in physics. • No idea why geodetic surveyors keep claiming the earth is an oblate spheroid. • No idea why Google Earth does not publish its underlying flat earth model that allows it to project the earth as a globe. • No explanation as to why the sun rises due east for everyone on the earth on the equinox. • No idea why an observer on the equator during an equinox does not see the sun set at an angle 19° above the horizon. • No idea why there should be a discernible horizon that looks like the edge of the ocean viewed from a beach. The horizon should really be a blur as the farther we look out across the flat earth, the more light is scattered and the more particles in the atmosphere obscuring the view. • No idea how it is possible to see the sun set twice simply by changing your height above the earth (quickly by just a few tens of metres). • No reasonable explanation as to how Polaris can be used in conjunction with a sextant in the northern hemisphere to determine latitude. • No explanation as to why the Artic and Antarctic experience months of days and nights at differ times of the year. • No explanation why bright little objects called satellites by some are regularly visible in the night sky following a predicted path across the sky • No explanation for how tides work.(What to say about Magma tides, their biscuit Earth should crack in pieces) • No explanation how (most times) boats disappear over the horizon when they should be visible on a flat earth. • No explanation as to why the horizon does not rise to eye level. • No credible explanation why helium balloons fitted with non-fish eye cameras often detect the curvature of the earth. • No credible explanation for the existence of the "Downward" force called gravity. • No explanation that does not implicitly make use of the theory of gravity for the atmospheric pressure gradient from high to low pressure with altitude, especially if we live in a dome. • No idea why (almost without exception) hurricanes and typhoons rotate in opposite directions in northern and southern hemispheres respectively. • No explanation for the Coriolis effect observable in controlled experiments such as those conducted by Ascher H. Shapiro in the 1960s. • No explanation as to why the northern celestial pole rotates counter clockwise in the northern hemisphere, and the southern celestial pole rotates clockwise in the southern hemisphere. • No idea what Antarctica even looks like, and where the South Pole is physically located. • No idea why Venus has phases. Bye bye Geocentric system. • No idea why planets, e.g. Mars, exhibit retrograde motion. Hello Heliocentric system. • No idea why the planets and their moons in the solar system appear to be obeying Newton's laws of planetary motion. • No explanation whatsoever why Stellar Aberration occurs. • No idea why clouds are illuminated from the bottom at sun set. • Can't explain how a commercial aircraft can fly from Perth to Sydney in only 4 hours 10 mins across the flat earth, as to achieve this, it would need to fly faster than an F18 on afterburner all the way. • No idea why the CO2 atmosphere of Mars appears to "Cling" to the exterior of its spherical spinning surface without the need for physical containment. This phenomenon is observable on others planets too. • No idea why the sun and the moon don't change in angular size from rising to setting by a factor of 2 to 3 since they are local to the earth, and no idea why the sun according to the inverse law of radiation is not 4 to 9 times brighter at midday than at sunset and sunrise when viewed from Australia. • No credible reason why millions of people (mostly scientists, engineers and technicians ) over decades would lie to keep the globe earth alive, and why nations and commercial enterprises, accountable to the voters and shareholders respectively, would spend (waste) $2 trillion a year , each and every year to maintain the globe lie. • No idea how it is possible to measure the value of G, the universal gravitational constant and in so doing, verify the theory of gravity. • No scientific papers publish in the last 100 years supporting the flat earth. • No idea why there is snow on height mountains with a local sun as it has to get warmer and snow should melt if you get closer to the sun. Now the globe earth and the heliocentric model have answers that are consistent with each other to all of the above that the flat earth can't explain, but the globe earth is wrong and the flat earth is correct , even although the flat earth model is almost useless at explaining anything?

  • I've said it before and this just reinforces my feelings on the topic; the central tenet of flat-eartherism is not understanding how big the Earth is. Every single argument they make from not seeing a curve, to train tracks not considering the curve, to pictures of Earth from space or of a flat horizon, every one of them can be explained by the idea that these people think the Earth is really really small instead of really really big. The entire movement is made up of people who cannot imagine how big the Earth is and so choose to believe that all the observations they make that don't support a small round earth must imply a small flat earth instead of realizing that they lack the imagination to visualize just how vast our planet is. I have trouble understanding sizes at a large scale too, but just because I cannot get my brain wrapped around the distance between the Sun and the Earth or how big a light-year really is *does not* mean that the sun is actually just painted on a firmament or something equally absurd. Some people will absolutely refuse to admit their lack of imagination and will ironically use what imagination they have to come up with something they can wrap their heads around without having to admit their own limitations.

    • They also use the mathematics for a paraboloid (z=x^2+y^2) that works pretty well for the distance to the horizon if you are at average length and stand with your feet wet at the shore. But for anything else, you need to use the formula for a oblate spheroid (r^2=x^2+y^2+z^2/1.00003) and account for observer height to calculate the distance to the horizon.

"Hmm, why can't we see the horizon is curved? Hmm, why does the vacuum of space not suck the atmosphere off the Earth?" These are perfectly valid questions for someone learning about science. The problem with flat earthers is that they get this shower thought in their head, and instead of googling it and getting the usually simple answer like a normal person, they stick with it and assume the answer must be a worldwide conspiracy in which all countries (including sworn enemies) are working together.

  • Awesome job, Dave. There are a lot of ways to disprove the flat earth, but this is my favorite, and I've never gotten a rebuttal: I call it "the 12 hour problem". As viewed from any point on the equator on the equinoxes, the Sun travels in a perfectly straight line all day long. So how does it get back to its sunrise position 12 hours later? The Gleason model tries to get around this by showing the Sun traveling in circles each day. But this doesn't match the observation I just mentioned. Flat models are left with the following alternatives: the Sun does the Pac Man thing, the Sun makes a left or right turn to circle back, the Sun goes under the Earth, the Sun goes dark and returns to its sunrise position undetected, or a new Sun arrives for sunrise each morning. Even flat earthers reject all these explanations because the Sun is the most watched object in the sky, and it has never done any of these things, save for "going under the Earth" (from the viewer's perspective) which doesn't work in a flat earth model because it would plunge the entire flat earth into darkness. Thus, flat earthers are left with nothing and must deny that anyone could ever see the Sun travel in a straight line all day long, even though millions have seen it do so.

Rainfall - None: Rain cannot fall because in an infinite space there being no up for it to fall down from! 5. Population - None: It is known that there is an infinite number of worlds but that not every one is inhabited, Therefore there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds. So if every planet in the universe has a population of zero, then the entire population of the universe must also be zero and any people you may actually meet, from time to time, are merely the product of a deranged imagination. 6. Monetary units - None: In fact there are 3 freely convertible currencies in the universe. But the Alterian Dollar has recently collapsed, and Flanian Pobble Bead is only exchangeable for other Flanain Pobble Beads and the Triganic Pu doesn't really count as money. It's exchange rate of six Ningis to one Pu is simple, but, since a Ningi is a triangular rubber coin six thousand eight hundred miles along each side, no one has ever collected enough to own one Pu. Ningis are not negotiable currency, because the Galactibanks refuse to deal in fiddling small change. From this basic premise it is very simple to prove the Galactic Banks are also the products of a deranged imagination. 7. Sex - None: Well actually there is an awful lot of this. Largely because of the total lack of Money, Trade, Banks, Rainfall, or anything else that might keep all the non-existent people in the universe occupied. However, it's not worth embarking on a long discussion of it now because it really is terribly complicated.

  • There wouldn't be a horizon at all if the Earth was flat. Rather, the ground or water would gradually fade into the distance. A solid, distinct line is the product of curvature. This is probably the best argument against flat Earth that I've ever seen because you don't need special equipment, sophisticated maths, photographic evidence, to travel great distances or to fly. You just need to stand on the beach and there it is: curvature.

    • They like to pretend light arbitrarily stops at 3000 miles. I learned that from a flerf in the comments of one of Dave McKeegan's videos. When I pointed out that you can see the sun at the same time in both Oslo, Norway and Cape Town, South Africa (distance: roughly 6300 miles), they resorted to one of the things Dave called out in this vid, and just lied about the number.
