    • They'll only believe an organization if it tells them what they want to hear BUT it's in the form of a clue or puzzle that a toddler could solve (because toddlers haven't learned anything about how things work). That way they can write things like, "They hide the truth in plain sight!" and feel smart for having uncovered the laziest criminal conspiracy since the valuation of Trump Towers.

Which is them explaining that they have to take pieces of other photos they made and stitch them together to make a full photograph. They cling on to the words "photoshopped" and ignore everything else. Even then, it being photoshopped doesn't help them anyway. If you want to see them squirm, tell them that for something to be photoshopped, there needs to be a photo taken to begin with.

  • I like how he pointed out that a flat disc would collapse back into a ball under its own gravity, and how most things in space are round. There's plenty of objects out there, but the moons of Mars will suffice to demonstrate this point: Both moons are too small for their gravity to force them into a spherical shape, but Phobos being the larger of the two, is somewhat closer to being spherical than Deimos.

  • This explains it very clearly. To believe in a flat earth, you have to: -believe that the sun and moon both defy physics to run in continuous circles overhead, and you have to overlook the fact that this would prevent people in the southern hemisphere from ever seeing a full moon -overlook the fact that this would result in people in different hemispheres seeing different faces of the moon, and you have to ignore the fact that this would result in different lunar cycles in different parts of the world. -believe that the sun somehow acts as a spotlight (which makes no sense). You also have to either believe that this spotlight somehow also illuminates the moon even though the moon should not be in the direction of the spotlight or you have to believe that the moon is self-illuminating. You also have to believe in a “shadow object” for which there is zero evidence, but the existence of which is required to explain a lunar eclipse on a flat earth. Further, you have to ignore the fact that a flat earth model can’t explain the fact that storm systems spin in different directions in different hemispheres. You also have to believe that gravity is a myth and via unknown means, the entire universe is accelerating upward at a constant rate of acceleration of 9.8m/s^2, but the earth somehow shields objects on it from the force causing this acceleration, yet somehow the sun and moon aren’t shielded. Also, you have to simultaneously believe that gravity does exist for every celestial body other than earth. Additionally, you have to either believe that certain airline flights don’t exist and everyone who claims to have been on them is lying, or you have to invent fictional technology that lets airliners fly faster than the speed of sound and greatly exceed their fuel limitations. On top of all of this, you have to ignore the fact that it is impossible to consistently plot known geographic coordinates onto a flat earth map. The math simply doesn’t work. Finally, you have to invent an insanely massive conspiracy involving every government, every space agency, every airline company (and their pilots), every international shipping company (and their ships’ crews), every company that is involved with satellites, etc. None of this makes any sense whatsoever.

Additionally, land surveys have to account for the converging lines of longitude, which becomes more pronounced the closer you get to either pole.

  • 1. **Direct Observations of Earth's Curvature:** When you observe distant objects disappearing bottom-up as they move farther away, it's due to the Earth's curvature. This phenomenon is consistent with a spherical Earth. 2. **Circumnavigation Confirms Sphericity:** The ability to sail or fly around the Earth in a continuous path, returning to the starting point, is a clear demonstration of the Earth's spherical shape. 3. **Lunar Eclipse and Earth's Shadow:** During a lunar eclipse, the Earth casts a round shadow on the moon, which is only possible if the Earth is a sphere. 4. **Ship Hulls Over the Horizon:** As ships sail away, their hulls vanish first, followed by the masts and superstructures, as they disappear over the curved horizon. 5. **Order of Visibility:** When a distant object approaches, the top part becomes visible first, gradually revealing the entire object. This is consistent with a curved Earth. 6. **Eratosthenes' Experiment:** In 3rd century BC, Eratosthenes calculated the Earth's circumference by comparing the angle of the sun's rays at two different locations, providing evidence for a spherical Earth. 7. **Modern Satellite Imagery:** Images from satellites show the Earth as a sphere, providing continuous visual confirmation. 8. **Astronomical Observations:** The changing positions of stars and constellations as you move north or south align with the curvature of the Earth. 9. **Coriolis Effect:** The Coriolis effect, which influences wind patterns and ocean currents, is a direct result of the Earth's rotation on its axis. 10. **Time Zones Based on Longitudinal Lines:** The existence of time zones is evidence of the Earth's rotation, and these time divisions are based on lines of longitude. 11. **Aircraft Navigation:** The navigation of aircraft relies on the curvature of the Earth, and flight paths are calculated accordingly. 12. **High-Altitude Flight Observations:** Passengers on high-altitude flights can see the curvature of the Earth below them. 13. **Midnight Sun in Polar Regions:** The phenomenon of the midnight sun, where the sun doesn't set during certain times of the year in polar regions, is due to the Earth's axial tilt. 14. **Different Constellations in Hemispheres:** The fact that different constellations are visible in the northern and southern hemispheres is consistent with the Earth's curvature. 15. **Historical Measurement by Ancient Civilizations:** Ancient civilizations, such as the Greeks, measured the Earth's circumference using simple geometry and observed star positions. 16. **Orbiting Satellites:** The existence of the International Space Station and other satellites orbiting the Earth is a testament to its spherical shape. 17. **Photos from the Edge of Space:** Photos taken from high-altitude balloons and rockets clearly show the curvature of the Earth. 18. **Radio Signals and GPS:** The way radio signals and GPS navigation work relies on the Earth's curvature and the positions of satellites. 19. **Poles Exist:** The presence of the South Pole and the North Pole indicates the Earth's spherical shape. 20. **Gravitational Attraction to the Center:** The consistent behavior of gravity, pulling objects toward the Earth's center, supports a spherical shape. 21. **Horizon Curvature:** The curvature of the Earth's horizon, which can be observed in various settings, is another direct piece of evidence. 22. **Atmospheric Behavior:** The behavior of the Earth's atmosphere, including the way it bends light and affects visibility, is in line with a curved surface. 23. **Extended Line of Sight from Elevation:** Observing distant objects from a higher elevation allows you to see farther, demonstrating the Earth's curvature. 24. **Equatorial Diameter vs. Polar Diameter:** The Earth's diameter is slightly larger at the equator than from pole to pole, consistent with a spherical shape. 25. **Scientific Consensus:** The collective agreement among experts in various fields, including geophysics and astronomy, supports the overwhelming evidence for a spherical Earth.

As an example, it is not uncommon to hear them claim that the sun is small and close, and moves in a circle over the flat Earth; under this premise, the sun would never set, and would change in size over the course of the day (being at its largest when directly overhead, and smaller the further away it traveled), which is _clearly_ not the case.

The best they can do is claim that some other force is causing it (usually magnetism, electrostatics, the aether or some other made up excuse), or that they completely misunderstand it and say something based around what makes it start swinging, or that it doesn't count because the mechanism is attached to the earth.

    • when they are spinning you have some kind of gravitation.

      @harzer99@harzer999 жыл бұрын
    • I don't know if trolling or not, but might as well do They are rings that contains artificial habitable environments on the inner part They rotate at a speed relative to their size that makes an apparent centrifugal force. because of this, everything inside ring gets pulled towards the inner surface of the rings. which simulates gravitational pull, hence it would feel like there's gravity. and you wouldn't notice the difference between gravity or simulated gravity. Imagine a merry go round, stand inside of it. Spin it super fast. you'll get pulled to the side right? now remove earth's gravity. you could now stand on the side. it's like there's gravity, because of the spinning motion For space habitats, It's better to just make a Spinning Ring that to create a whole new planet. Creating a planet requires a lot mass to have earth like gravity. and most of it will be useless because it will be deep inside the planet, not to mention the work needed to acquire and transport mass. Whereas Rings or Hollowed Spheres/Cylinders could be way smaller and still produce earth-like gravity provided that the speed of the rotation be sufficient to produce enough centrifugal force. That's why you have Halo Rings, Citadel in Mass Effect, etc

      @lyndongaming@lyndongaming9 жыл бұрын
    • vernonclassic But it isn't gravity that's being "produced", it's centrifugal force which, on a large enough scale and at the right intensity, can feel like gravity, but the two are independent of each other. Centrifugal force is caused by constantly redirected motion, which gravity (which is a phenomenon that is determined by mass, not motion) would only serve to slow down.

      @TheDaemons@TheDaemons9 жыл бұрын
    • vernonclassic The thing is, no gravity is ever produced. According to Einsteins general theory of relativity, acceleration cannot be distinguished from gravity. In the case of you standing inside a spinning ring, you have a constant change in angle, and the ring spins with a constant velocity. Setting the the centre of the ring with radius r in the origin of a coordinate system would give you that the position as a vector function is as follows: s(t) = r*[cos(φ), sin(φ)] = r*[cos(ωt), sin(ωt)] where φ is the angle from the starting position relative to the centre, ω is the change in angle per second and t is the time passed since the starting position. Such that φ = ωt. Taking the derivative twice of this vector function gives the following: v(t) = s'(t) = r*[- ω sin(ωt), ω cos(ωt)] a(t) = v'(t) = s''(t) = r*[- ω^2 cos(ωt), - ω^2 sin(ωt)] = - ω^2*r*[cos(ωt), sin(ωt)] This means that: a(t) = - ω^2*s(t) This shows that your acceleration will point towards the centre of the ring, in other words, you will feel like pushed in the opposite direction Taking the absolute values of both sides gives that a = ω^2*r since v = ωr then ω = v/r a = (v/r)^2*r Thus: a = v^2 / r This will always be the case. To create the feeling of earth like gravity, one would need 'a' to be around 9.81 m/s^2, and you could then solve for v to get the following: v = √(a*r) = √(9.81*r) v = 3.13*√(r). This would give you the velocity needed in order to experience the feeling of earths gravity, given that you know the radius 'r' of the ring that you stand inside of.

My Explanation: this star sits above (facing) the North Pole as Earth rotates on its polar axis. What’s your explanation? - Why there in no ‘Southern Star’? My Explanation: there is no star that sits facing the South Pole for it to appear fixed in place. What’s yours? -Why are the stars visible to the Northern hemisphere not visible to the southern hemisphere and vice versa? My Explaination: because Earth is a globe rotating around the polar axis therefore each of N and S hemispheres maintain a different view… what’s your explanation? - Why does the moon appear upside in the southern hemisphere compared to how it looks in the northern hemisphere? You guessed it.

Not only have you contradicted your previous model by putting the Sun outside the dome, but now everyone on the planet is living in solid glass.
