Norm Macdonald telling the best OJ Simpson jokes again.. and again and then he got fired from SNL
Norman Gene Macdonald[i] (October 17, 1959[ii] - September 14, 2021) was a Canadian stand-up comedian, actor, and writer whose style was characterized by deadpan delivery and the use of folksy, old-fashioned turns of phrase.[1][2][3] He appeared in many films and was a regular guest on late-night talk shows, where he became known for his chaotic, yet understated style of comedy.[4] Many critics and fellow comedians considered him to be the ultimate talk show guest, while prominent late-night figure David Letterman regarded him as "the best" of stand-up comedians.[5][6]
Earlier in his career, Macdonald's first work on television included writing for such comedies as Roseanne and The Dennis Miller Show. In 1993, Macdonald was hired as a writer and cast member on Saturday Night Live (SNL), spending a total of five seasons on the series, which included anchoring the show's Weekend Update segment for three and a half seasons.[7] He was removed as host of SNL's Weekend Update in 1998, allegedly for relentlessly mocking O. J. Simpson during his murder trial, offending producer Don Ohlmeyer who was a close friend of Simpson.[8][9] After being fired from SNL, he wrote and starred in the 1998 film Dirty Work and headlined his own sitcom The Norm Show from 1999 to 2001. Macdonald was also a voice actor, and provided voice acting roles for Family Guy, The Fairly OddParents, Mike Tyson Mysteries, The Orville, and the Dr. Dolittle films.
Between 2013 and 2018, Macdonald hosted the talk shows Norm Macdonald Live (a video podcast) and Norm Macdonald Has a Show (a Netflix series), on which he interviewed comedians and other celebrities. In 2016, he authored Based on a True Story, a novel that presented a heavily fictionalized account of his life.[10] Macdonald died of leukemia in September 2021, a condition he had not publicly disclosed.

That would be hell.
Now that O.J. is also dead, maybe he'll find out. Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman were unavailable for comment...

@BirdOfHermes8381 who could miss what they "did there," it's in all caps 🤦♀️
To be fired from SNL today is actually an Honor. Norm MacDonald was one of the few SNL Cast Regulars who had the iron balls not being afraid of getting the axe from SNL FOR TELLING THE TRUTH.
“It’s pronounced eye urn” Larry King
Norm thought nothing would happen to him. Apparently he was pretty shocked when he got let go from snl

Today?
Not the way I got fired.....

It would have just been Norm sitting there. You guys are missing the point. Norm wanted to hear O.J. confess, or for new DNA to prove guilt. So even though, this is a hilarious mix, with a lot of great riffs but I DON'T think he would have been happy, that the juice, has gone bad. Sorry to ruin the party.
Not really. Why didn't he clown Robert Blake the same way?

Thank you. A leukemia survivor, I was crushed to learn Norm died of the disease. I wish I could have helped him. When I get down or stressed, I listen to your Norm remembrance. They take me out of reality and put me in a place of deadpan zen. Letterman was right.
I had no idea he died
Any time Norm did "that" smile (like 2:17), he knew he'd trolled the audience big time.
POS “Happy Hour” Don Ohlmeyer is a liar. “I don’t want you to hold back” and “Lauren acquiesced and made the change” is pure BS. Ohlmeyer directly fired Norm because he told the truth about OJ every Saturday. Now, all three are gone, but two of ‘em are roasting as we speak. #NormWasTheBest

@Ripleys_mom I know OJ was cremated and the remains given to his kids. I don't think there is an actual grave marker. In any case I've never known a more divisive case of massive numbers of people that either love or despise him. Myself I judge him by his actions and that he earned his position of having his grave marker as a public urinal.

For sure... the man is lethal
Norm was Canadian. He didn't seem to care if he burned his bridges in the States. He would always be welcomed home.
I doubt that was the motivator
Is it true that OJ said on his deathbed that he could "finally rest knowing that Nicole's killer would soon be dead". Norm was awesome.
Norm rocked! Love all the swipes at OJ still looking for Nichole’s KILLER from the Other Side 😂😅
We need Norm MacDonald today like never before, but he's gone home, at 61, way too soon. The greatest gift God gave us ... the gift of laughter ... is diminished with his passing
Living a long life is not always a blessing, the wicked can live just as long or longer than the rightous, case in point, O.J.
SNL is unwatchable today. Norm was the last decent member and Farley. Both RIP.
He was gifted and unafraid to state the truth when so many others were.
Damn. He was brutal. He was correct, but it was brutal. Lol

I hope Norm get to tell his OJ jokes to OJ directly.
THAT ought to be a sketch! O.J. sitting in Hell's waiting room, Patrick Stewart as the Devil tells him thar, at one time, they had a very special punishment for a murserer like gim, but something just opened up... cut to: a heavily prosthetic'd cast member as Norm on the old WU set. "Here's the fake news: O.J. Simpson will soend eternity listening to me roast him for killing his wife and that other guy!"
I don't think they're in the same place at this time...
My God this is funny. I'd forgotten how effing funny norm was on snl.
I have come to believe McDonald is a comic genius… off beat, irreverent, unpredictable… not afraid to tread on sacred cows. Very comfortable in front of a live audience, quick with an ad lib, knows how to tickle an audience’s sensitivities.
I am amazed he did not get sued. I guess everyone knew OJ was guilty.
Things were different back then. today he'd be in big trouble. smh Such a funny man.
Yeah back when free speech was a thing!
It’s satire from a comedian. Defamation is very technical, its not just "saying stuff that's mean or making fun of someone". The person defamed has to prove that factual statements of the defamer were false, the speaker knew it was false, and the defamee has suffered damage. It's that last one that protects comedians, as noone thinks that comedians are saying serious things about the defamee.
Freedom of speech means you can't sue someone for slander within the context of comedy
The victims' families won a lawsuit against OJ in civil court not long after the criminal trial, so that probably protected Norm regardless, since it can't be defamatory when he's been found legally liable.
Norm was brilliant, and BRUTAL, RIP
💯
Norm was about comedy. Period.
Good stuff, I’ve been laughing my ass off. Thanks for sharing.
Norm used to shit on OJ, Michael Jackson, and Frank Stallone during his Weekend Update stint. RIP Norm.

I’m so glad to have found this, and discovered Norm!! I am so filled with bitterness and hatred over this story, and it feels good to laugh about it for a change.
God bless ya, Norm. You, Brad Delp, and my own Dad, are the only ones I've mourned in at least 10 years.
Funny guy. He is missed by many who loved him and his wit.
The timing on this one
It admittedly wears thin toward the middle when the punchline is always "OJ likes killing people" or "OJ killed his wife" but quite a few, like the koala joke and the various book titles, were hilarious.
When they're back to back, yeah. But in-context you had to wait seven days to hear the next one. You knew it was coming, and most of the time it's played straight, but sometimes he does a bait and switch and sneaks one in there. If you hear the same joke over and over, yeah. That's like a song that plays the same sequence of notes over and over. It wasn't this relentless back in real life
Fu-king hilarious! Norm was the best!
I loved Norm. GOAT.
I can't beleive Norm was fired for telling jokes about O.J. the Killer.
Yup, he was told by the exec who was a friend of "The Juice", to lighten on the jokes, which Norm doubled down on. Some time after, Norm was asked to host the show and he joked about it saying along the lines of "You all really suck." on his opening monologue.
Tied with Carlin for GOAT status, IMO. One of a kind.
