Shawn Pilot ( known as the wheeler dealer at Gotham Garage on the Netflix hit series Car Masters Rust to Riches ) buys a Supercharged C5 Corvette for only $4600. The low-priced Vette has a nasty knocking noise that may cost thousands to fix.
Special thanks to Harry at HK Motorsports the Dyno Shop in Van Nuys, CA
I dumped my girlfriend because she didn’t want to scribe to Shawn’s channel. No worries, bro I got your back! ❤
Ricky's got my back!!!! Man, that is funny.
Ricky you really dumped Jenny?
@@Alpha_Chad She told him too run and he's still runnin...
@@ShawnPilot1 😊❤❤❤❤❤ LP
Alpha move! The world needs more men like you Ricky.
I just cannot get over the level of production and the fact that Shawn only has 3.3k subscribers - that's insane - I don't own a Corvette (yet) but learning so much about the platform - interesting, and entertaining....
Over 10k today. Paying off now
He just got my vote. Shawn obviously has a PHD in Vettes
3.3k? Wow. Day later 13.2k
18k
Almost 19k dudes getting seen again. I remember him from TV. He did the trade up show to get 100k
the amount of work you put into a 2 minute shot of pulling your vette out and pulling in just the frame was not unnoticed! +1 subscriber
Hell yeah man! awesome to see you making videos! My C5 is still running strong. Thanks for getting me the parts!
Rob Dahm in my comments!!! I am not worthy. I knew hooking you up with Corvette parts would pay off for me.
Shawn u are the man. Keep the videos coming nice to not see u chopping the roof off making a zombie vette lol.
I miss the car show you did with the crew, glad to see you have a gig of your own!
@@ShawnPilot1 where could i reach out to you! ?
Love how you take the time to explain the issue and how it is affecting the vehicle.
Reminds me the how the tall guy used to explain on that British show where they flipped cars
@@blackgenesis7472 Ed china, wheeler dealers
I love that he doesn't have to do the drama bullshit like they do on tv.
He does it on TV good though. And he seems to be doing the same exact thing here though.
You are sooo right !!!
IDK. the "knock" sounded like post-production fakery. it didnt skip with the edits. actually sounded like someone tapping a pencil on a desk.
This show is fake as hell.
@@TheSighphiguy agreed. And the shredded rubber looked like topsoil lol.
Dude, I'm not really a car guy but watched the whole video without skipping a second. It was perfectly made. Excitement, humor, informative, the cuts, the music...everything was on point. Big thumbs up.
Owning a 2008 Vette myself , I love the way he is a one man show. Very inspiring.
Shawn, please stick with the videos, I know its a lot of work, but we who are here will be loyal for sure. Love this hobby and through your personality makes this great! All your detail info is greatly appreciated. Be safe!
Thanks, will do!
Shawn, i really love that you decided to start with your own stuff. Been following you since the first GG season. Keep rocking man.
@@ShawnPilot1 don't tell what you pay for it, because when you sell it then the buyer doesn't have to know that you got it for peanuts. I'm from holland and i restore old vans from the german firebrigade, and i make at least 100% profit on every van i sell, but i'm sure that you could make waaaaaay more when you sell this car.
You really, really caught my attention explaining the driveshaft in this C5 Corvette and how you simplified it so nicely to the average layman. I immediately subscribed to your channel for your impeccable work. Thank you!
I appreciate the sub.
@@ShawnPilot1 your the cooleset car guy ever. I want a corvette so bad now lol if you ever have anything for sale down under let me know.
@@ShawnPilot1 Please post more videos -these are so cool!
This show is better than the other show you were on
need to borrow the foxy lady from Gotham
Shawn, you could totally kill it on this platform! Your personality, skills, enthusiasm, knowledge, etc. Who knew? Any idea how many Corvette fans there are out there, produce some more content and you'll have 1M subs in a NY second.
This show is better than anything on cable in my opinion! I can't wait to see where this show goes! Great content, good humor, educational too what more could we want! Give us more Shawn
totally agree! This show needs to be on Motortrend TV and just the way it is, nobody change anything.
@@stevenkaskel3469yup, just keep it like this, keep it the Shawn way🙌🏼🔥
Shawn is the type of guy I would love to have a beer with and just talk cars all day.
Cheers
I agree!
A beer talk all day:-)
So far these 2 episodes are really great fun Shawn. I am starting to learn more and more about the Corvette so this is really enlightening. You were pretty stoked to find that bad drive line yolk 😀
Looks so convenient to work on!!
THIS is the best automotive channel i've found since VGG. I've never understood a transaxle before. Thank you for actually taking time to show us the corvette drive system like that. Very well produced.
I've been watching KZhead automotive channels for a looong time. This is only the second time I've ever had something pop up on my feed for it's first time and I've watched from beginning to end without constantly fast forwarding. Only fast-forward once or twice in the very very beginning. I'm highly impressed with your production, enthusiastic delivery, audio choices, knowledge providing without being way over technical and overall quality of the video. This is fantastic. I hope your channel grows like "Jack's beanstalk". This was a phenomenal video

This is the first time watching the channel. I love the quirky passion he has, as well as the vast amount of knowledge he brings. Can’t wait for the next video!
Welcome aboard!
Shawn, your energy ,enthusiasm and knowledge are contagious. Lovin it, can't wait for your next video! Great job!
Shawn, you have me hooked! You are speaking my language and your production skills make me feel like I am watching a TV show. Literally binging through all your content right now! Driveshaft walkthrough was epic! Always enjoyed your 'performance' as the savvy wheeler dealer on Gotham garage, but watching you get hands on, shows a whole new level of skill. Nice work my friend!
Love the fact that you made this feel like a professional show, your production and time you spent editing and setting up two drive trains is amazing! thank you! You deserve wellll over 4k subs
40k** you should be at 1M subs with how high quality your videos are
Thank you for the support.
That transition from the car to it's skeleton was smooth man.
@12:10 lil funky 👀
Great work! Your ability to show the torque converter and components under the body is fantastic. I have not seen another show as detailed and educational as this one. Your channel will do great. Your hard work is appreciated.
One of the best teaching videos on the subject on the web! Thanks for your dedication - great production! 👍
Well done my friend! Thoroughly enjoyed this sleuthing video! Glad you made out with this acquisition. Can’t wait to see what you end up creating with this project! Keep ‘em coming! 👏👍🏼🙏😎
Shawn pilot. Would you be interested in hiring me ? I'm a professional life long auto builder that also has a passion for corvettes and building hot rods. Thanks either way.
I'll hire yore godamn ass bro 👍😃
Man, that was cool! I've never seen anyone explain an issue by using an "exploded version" of the car in question! Awesome!
So glad i found this channel. I wish you luck, i became a classic car owner last year buying a 94 vette and ive been falling deeper in love with vettes ever since. Looking forward to learning as much as i can.
I hope this channel blows up. It’s awesome.
You have extremely professionally done videos, very informative and really cool to watch. This should be on cable TV.
He was, his from Gotham Garage 😂
@@troyd-motorsport9933 Yea, I figured that out. 😂 I never watched that show though.
@@ronniegillaspy it's a good show but let's hope he doesn't go overboard like they do on Gotham cars, they become tacky 😂
He’s already on cable TV/Netflix
Cable ruins content like this. Creating content on KZhead you are free to be yourself and do what you want to do, don't have producers and people telling you what to do... When you introduce producers and create content for cable, Netflix and the like it comes off as fake and phony... Cable is dead, I cut that cord decades ago...
That non running Vette was a gamble that sure paid off. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Liked and Shared! I look forward to checking out your fabrication and finishing of that Beast. Cheers! ⚡🍀🇺🇲💪
thank you
This video is so well done I'm honestly blown away. You explained it so well that a beginner like me could follow along. It was entertaining the whole way through and I learned a lot! PS : Thanks for all the effort you put into the demonstrations, like setting up the axels and torque tube, it made it so clear to understand where all the parts connected to each other, and the relationship they have. Thanks again for such an awesome video, I can't wait to watch more. Bravo Shawn Pilot!
Thank you, glad you liked it.
Shawn, I am impressed by your level of video production, entertainment, knowledge and your enthusiasm that was presented in this video. Great job and keep up the fantastic work.
2 videos in this guy blows away most car TV shows.. The amount of effort and time it had to take to set up a bare C5 drivetrain had to be insane. Not to mention editing melting the body onto it.. Guy clearly has a insane work ethic and attention to detail. His obvious love for vettes alone is worthy enough for a sub, but his work ethic and attention to detail takes it way over the top.. This channel is going to be a wealth of knowledge for any Vette owner that likes to wrench on their own ride, as well as anyone looking to own a Vette and know what they are looking for ... Just a hunch, but I suspect nothing but top shelf craftsmanship schooling on Vette wrenching on this channel.. And with all that said. Congrats on the huge win on a big pony Vette on the cheap..
Shawn, your videos are terrific. I have had Corvettes from the 60s up till today. I always love learning something new as I did on your C5 video. Keep up the great work, and can’t wait for more of your follow up videos!
Your level of automotive passion is off the chart. A joy to watch.
Glad you enjoy it!
I've watched your two videos and I have to say, it's hard to believe how much I've learned so quickly. How is your channel not the best mechanics channel on the internet.. you need more videos!!!! Not just in the information and quality great, you are really entertaining to watch.
OMG i used to watch a TV show just for you, happy to find your channel here, will watch every video i can 😄 Good luck with this proyect and ty for so many fun moments ✌️
Love the amount of energy that went into this. Keep it up man
This channel about to blow up, awesome vid, put a smile on my face, keep them coming
It *IS* blowing up, lol!
Honestly it's super impressive how much effort you put into your videos. Good job! Now I really want a C5 'vette for my first car. You've sparked my addiction with vettes now LOL. Drive safe!
You have, probably the best video production on KZhead! Loved the torque tube dissolve to the Vette! (I own a video production co.) I grew up in Southern MN. My dad owned one of the only body shops in the area that fixed Corvettes. Love your channel!
I appreciate that. Thanks for checking me out.
What an amazing production!!! Loved every moment!! Hope this channel grows Fast!!
I hope so too! Glad you liked it.
So fun, thanks Shawn for having us along. Looking forward to some more content from you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Another amazing video. All the extra love an time you put in this didn't go unnoticed ✌🏾
Loving the content man! The tone, the tunes, the direction, the real deal car vibe. Can't wait to see more
You were great in Gotham Garage. So nice to see you back on TV. Great content, well edited. Well done, man! Thanks for the great entertainment. Looking forward to more!
I was trying to remember what show he was on. Thank you lol
I stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago, you picked up a 71 (offered as a 72) white 'Vette.. anyway, you have GREAT video production skills man, really nice work for what it's worth from a viewer. It's pretty darn cool the way you transitioned to show the torque tube and how it works and all back over to the actual car. Nice work seriously.
Dude, you’re the new channel I’ve been looking for.. you’re genuinely funny and talented! I always want to learn from the videos I watch and on my 2nd video with you I learn all about transaxles.. you’re gold my friend, keep up the great work!
This is now one of my favorite channels... Keep'em coming!!!
I am honored, thank you. More videos are coming.
I love the fact that he is doing an amazing job and doing something himself ( at least it seems ) that takes anyone else a full crew . Great job Shawn ,loving your stuff man . And I don't even like Corvettes 😂
I sure wish he was my neighbor, I have an 84 with crossfire injection that just quit suddenly.
Wow, I do a lot photo and video work and know you put a lot of time into these videos! I just found this channel yesterday and I'm hooked!
This randomly got pushed to my feed. So glad it did. I've watched two videos so far.... great production and so informative
Awesome video! The editing is so so good…kept me watching start to finish…and wanting more. I have a 1966 Corvette, but I love all Corvettes.
man i love the reaction after starting the motor your hard work paid off very entertaining 👏
Just discovered your channel with your amazing $3500 1971 purchase! This video here was #MINDBLOWING! I instantly subscribed Shawn! I look forward to future videos and am amazed you only have 1.75k subs! I'll definitely share with my friends and I have a few there in your area! *EDIT* I was wondering what the hell as I thought when I 1st saw your '71 video, you had 1.57k subs and then when I was done with this video, you were already up to 1.75k ....and then I look at your homepage and these are your only two videos and again, you jumped from 1.75k to 1.79k! (*2nd edit...1.8k now!*) Wow! You are definitely going to need to provide some more content! Your video and editing skills are already 1st rate! I see you with a million subs faster than a 700hp supercharged LS2!!!
Welcome aboard
Shawn that was one of the best mechanical explanations I have ever seen. I know you went to a lot of effort but thank you! Brilliant visual demonstration.
Love that youre a vette guy. Super knowledgeable in every aspect of cars and great to watch. Glad i found you on youtube
No cursing, no lame runaround dialogue for a more lengthy video, no fronting or false knowledge just a man in his garage doing what he loves and making great content. I love it , never stop I just found your page and I subbed for more content. Your amazing bro 👍much love from California
no cursing? are you 13😂
@@ghettochicken8420 interesting take. Usually younger people curse heavy. Regardless, because I prefer media that isn't cursing, that makes me young? Hmm interesting 🤔
Keep it up Shawn, i think you got a good thing going here, just don't leave us hangin,im liking that you get to be your own man, and not getting clowned on by you know who, awesome channel bro
Thank you Jason
Shawn! I first saw you on Gotham Garage and I really enjoyed your positive attitude and charisma. I love this channel and appreciate how you deliver your kind personality amidst the cars. Its fun informative and I can watch it with my kids! Thank you Shaun! Coolest guy on TV!!!
Inspired, awesome Vette enthusiasm with flawless video production skills. Superstar, entertaining, informative, inspiring terrific keep it going!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Well done, my friend! I had a 98 C5 as well, and love these cars.
I can see why this channel is exploding right now, the production values are top notch, great energy and great entertainment.
Wow Shawn is going places! One of the fastest growing channels and it deserves it! What a production and entertainment. Looking forward to more videos.
More videos coming your way, thanks for checking me out.
Just found your channel. Loved watching every minute. What a beautiful vehicle. THANKS
Congrats on the vette loved watching the video and I’m excited to see what you do with the body
Thank you, glad you liked it.
The guy that sold it is gonna be sick
I love the way this is filmed! Incredible work. Please keep it up!!
this man really took apart his whole vet to explain something. what a guy
Shawn I must ask what happened with Gauthem gurage. Awesome your having your own channel congrats.
What's crazy is, I paid more for my electric bike ($5,500) than Shawn did for this beast. I am so jealous at guys like Shawn for their expertise and ability to fix things. He'll flip that car for $40,000 or $50,000 after he's done sprucing it up.
Not really. If it makes you feel any better, Stingray C5s are 12K to 15K in decent shape, all day. What ebike model did you pay $5500 for?
@@getdealtwithquick Not with a recently built LS2 and supercharger they aren't dumbass... -_- Try double those figures.
Maybe 15k-20k with its mods
I don’t know how he does it. Such an interesting approach and attitude! And so informative! Loving all the episodes so far 💪👍👍
Love your video fun to watch and learn so much, excellent work. Always looking forward to your new upload.
Great job Shawn. After watching this as a 2nd of your vids. As a Vette owner of 32 years I hit the subscribe button. YOU ROCK.
The idea with the off body shaft presenty was simply spectacular! Wow

THESE VIDEOS are GREAT!!! So much production value and the host is AWESOME
I come back and watch this video from time to time. I love your work Shawn
Shawn, you the man! Happy to see you on KZhead, I’ll watch every video!
This is now my favourite channel. Absolutely love the deep knowledge and technical side, light hearted vibe and the passion brother! GIVE ME MORE ❤❤❤

Looking forward to more videos. Great stuff Shawn!
Love your videos!! Really hope you keep making them. You can tell they take time to edit and make thank you for making them
My new favorite channel! Keep these videos coming!
Wonderful, passionate and intelligent production. Values both the cinematic, the technical educational and a nice Shawn who does not waste our time with indifferences. Thank you. I am on. ❤
That was a great video. I felt like I was watching a tv show from back when tv mattered. The thing where you transitioned the car to the mechanical components was super cool and that transition back where you slid under the car was done really well too. I have done some minor video editing and I can imagine that took a long time and a lot of set up to get it to look so good. Anyway looking forward to more videos on your channel. Looks like it's been a while at this point. Hope the editing and production wasn't so much it drove you away. What you've done is really impressive!
Not sure why theres only a few videos. This could be one of the best KZhead car channels! Please Keep the content going this is pure gold
Great work Shawn, top effort on all your videos they are very well edited, it's the best car restoration channel on KZhead I have come across! Subscribed :)
Great vudeo! Very informative on the torque tube removal and repair of the coupler. Nice decoding of the block...you got yourself a nice hot rod there!
Dude your energy and knowledge and enthusiasm is contagious 👍👍👍
I'm so glad you started this channel, Shawn!
these videos are incredibly well made and Shawn's narration is really inviting as it is informative. I have been working on a lot of supercharged and turbo cars over the past 20 years and I learned a lot from watching his 2 videos. looking forward to more in the future. I do have 1 question, are these the actual prices you paid for these vettes. if so amazing finds.
The thrills, the chills, the romance, the drama, the shredded rubber and chunks of aluminum debris-it’s all here, dude. I’ve watched two of your Vette videos and they are totally enjoyable and informative.
Shawn, I know it sounds unlikely that you would have missed it but I just wanted to mention one thing. One very popular modification on forced induction C5 and C6 Corvettes to prevent knock was to spray water methanol into the intake, this was normally done by adding a bong under the existing windshield washer fluid tank and having a pump under the bumper and a hose into the intake tube on the bottom. It's possible to gloss over something like that because of where it is in relation to the work you were doing. If the windshield washer tank is low and it's not spraying water methanol then that would explain the knocking. It just seems weird to me that someone who put that much effort into building the vet would not have it tuned correctly. Many people just used normal -20 windshield washer fluid because it is 70% water and 30% methanol and that way they can continue to use their washers as normal but some went out in bought special juice which was a 50-50 mix. The windshield washer fluid is almost as good. You end up with about 113 octane equivalency with -20° windshield, washer fluid and 116 octane equivalency with 50-50 mix.
Oh and I love love love your edits man, between car and no car. Really shows how it all goes together.
First of all, thank you very much for your video. I have been in the world of cars for many years. We really like how you explain things and give us many things that are key to this business. We wish you much success and we are waiting for your new videos. Gracias 🇪🇸
Love Shawn's content and style. Better than any car show on TV.
@Shawn: I’m a new subscriber…signed on after viewing your 1971 Vette segment. I learned a lot from this segment. Wishing you the best on your channel.
Shawn, that's some awesome editing @ 12:10! Great videos sir!
At first i thought you cgi the whole no car on the drivetrain part, dude, thisnis epic learning right here. Thanks for teaching. Im a mustang fan, but dude, you're production and how you do what you do is next level. Subbed.
Shawn, amazing find! I can’t believe you scored that car for that price. And I thought you lucked out on the’72! Awesome presentation, great editing, no wasted viewing minutes. If you had a hot chic for a helper? Another level. My son and I rented a C6 manual when we went to Daytona Raceway for the Rolex. First time driving a Vette for the both of us, he had an STI , I have an ATS-V. Big step up from both cars. We had an absolute blast in it! Keep the videos coming!
