  • I didn’t buy another Toyota because I hated the dealership experience, went to two and avoided the other two as they were still doing mark ups. They talk like they have hot shit when they don’t. Got a Mazda CX 50 instead of a Highlander of even a Camry, and they respected us. That matters to me. Our 4Runner was amazing but overkill for what we used it for. I truly hope your dealership respects its customers.

I kitted out the truck with 4 inch thick foam, an electric blanket, battery inverter river 2 to power the bracket, a thick fuzzy black queen sized blanket and camping pillow. I am 5 ft 11in tall and 165lbs and 40 years old and able to crawl into the trunk via the folding rear seat and use the fuzzy blanket to block out the light and leave my legs and feet dangling over the folder rear seat into the cabin while my torso and head and arms are floating on the memory foam e-blanket and fuzzy blanket pillow kit and take 10-40 min naps to refresh on the go and works fine. Commuting to work smooth I can get over 50 MPG and hypermiling over 70 MPG, so it bests even my wife's 3rd gen Prius in terms of fuel economy. I also love the design of the E210 Corolla :)

And it’s very easy to option a 4Runner and end up saying “gee I’m almost at LC price maybe I’ll just get that” and same with a well optioned LC it’s easy to justify a jump to the GX. Also while 4Runner and LC are so close in size, styling wise they are so different some people are going to prefer one or the other. The vehicle that makes no sense is the Sequoia, no point to such a large expensive SUV with so little usable space. GX renders the Sequoia pointless. It looks good but just doesn’t have enough space to justify.

  • IMHO opportunity lost on a three row GX Overtrail. Other markets get the turbo diesel Land Cruiser with the three rows due to a lack of hybrid battery in the cargo floor. They could have done the same with the GX Overtrail but for some reason decided not to. Instead the only option for a three row off-roader is the Sequoia.

  • I agree with Kirk's conclusions... in _theory_ ... *however* in terms of real world _availability_ ... (and Kirk being an experienced Lexus salesperson may or may not agree with me) don't you think it's highly unlikely for Lexus dealers to sell stripped down base models? I think Lexus dealers tend to load up their vehicles with expensive option packages. So that means the base model GX is kind of a mythical creature. I would also think a similar thing is going to happen with the new Land Cruiser. Being as the previous Land Cruiser had a much higher point of entry, I think Toyota dealers aren't going to want to sell stripped down base model Land Cruisers. So that leaves the 4Runner as the only "affordable" option. And I think it will be much easier to find low spec 4Runners (not immediately of course, but eventually) than it will be to find stripper base model Land Cruisers and Lexus GXs on dealer lots. So there goes your price overlap... right out the window (sticker)! 😺

  • Out of the 3, all using the same wheelbase, I would go with the Lexus GX, just because of the V6 turbo, the LC cost with an I4 turbo hybrid seems a little high, no price or fuel info on the new-gen 4Runner (so, there's that)

  • Get rid of the Sequoia and give us the LC300! The biggest issue here is there is no top end. The Prado and the 4Runner are skewed toward the low end. The 4Runner in my opinion should have been more barebones, rugged, plastic interior, very off road oriented, removable top, more like an FJ Cruiser

  • You forget that lower load floor on the GX, Kirk. That’s a plus for me. I like the lip of the rear of the hatch matching the floor of the rear. It makes it easier to load heavy boxes and you aren’t scuffing up that load floor lip they’ve created in the LC. It’s a small thing that gets more annoying with time.

  • If you're looking to ever build it into any kind of overland vehicle with some drawers/sleeping platform inside the 4runner TRD OR non-hybrid or the GX550 are your best options (GX550 better since it's taller inside) since the floor is raised like 5-6" in the hybrid. I hate that it takes up that much of the rear cargo space. You'd still get the rear locker and have some more room to build the interior. I have a drawer system / sleeping platform in my GX470 and there's not a ton of head room when sleeping. Losing another 5-6" of space would be a deal breaker for me I think.

  • The comparison is not quite right btw a 4Runner that has sway bar disconnect and the Land Cruiser 1958 that does not have it. One needs to go to the LC LC to have it. So off-roading goes down when shifting to a LC 1958, which is weird to have to say.

  • 6th Gen 4Runner TRD Pro for me. I think Toyota did the best design job out of all three of these. The new LC reminds me of the Jeep compass from the rear. I am also not a fan of the huge diaper the LC and 550 wear… lastly the interior of the LC already looks dated (and why the GIANT radio dial? … so random) with that said they are all great vehicles… just designed for different tastes and budgets. 🚙

  • Land Cruiser with premium package is within $3K of a GX550 Overtrail. Easy decision to step up to the GX550 you get more power from the TTV6, more transmission gears, more cargo space, E-KDSS, and let’s not forget the GX550 OT comes with decent all terrain tires. Factoring in the GX550 OT coming with appropriate tires that brings the price gap down to maybe $1500 or less between a GX550 OT or a Land Cruiser premium package. Plus the GX550 OT can tow 9000lbs vs the 6000lbs of the Land Cruiser. Seems that $3K price delta nets a GX550 OT buyer quite a bit of equipment.

  • I REALLY liked how the 4Runner TRD pro looked. However, I would have to wait until November to jump into a new one. That practically leaves me with either the Land Cruiser (Land Cruiser) or the GX550 premium plus. Which equipped how I want, are the same price. I don’t really need the third row and just leaves me with the decision of either spending more on fuel for the Lexus badge or an over priced Toyota. Decisions, decisions. 😅

    • Seriously. 😂 Also, I don’t see the point of having a saturated suv lineup like this. I don’t see the point of the Land Cruiser now that the 4Runner is here. They both use the same powertrains depending on which trim. I understand the GX because it’s a luxury off-roader with a twin turbo v6. I have a feeling they’ll axe the sequoia. I rarely see those around on the road and they’re piling up in dealerships. No one wants to pay that money for a large Toyota suv with a bad cargo area. All of these vehicles are way overpriced
