This general got suddenly fired without explaination and all the comments are about “oh he’s probably tired from working so hard!” “No no it doesn’t mean anything bad! Americs suddenly fires generals without explaining too!” People here blindly support this war without thought . They parrot whatever the screen says. No one here even knows about America’s role in the 2014 Ukrainian civil war ..

  • It could also be that the commander wanted to step back from his position. Possibly too much stress after one year of all out war. It’s possible they were told that having a top commander quit would send the wrong signal so we will have to say fired. This allows the commander to step back and gives the impression that the President remains aggressive and in control.

    • Yep. No one in Ukraine has even heard of such a commander. It's not even a rank of general or anything. Not saying there was one commander somewhere who was replaced or not and how well was he performing etc. It just seems like the newsmakers are trying to make some kind of sensation out of nothing. Ukraine has incredible amount of greatest generals and commanders of all kinds, real professionals and real heroes, why not mention them. As far as Zelenski, he is not the one in charge of military personnel, he gets reports from head of military, but he has no idea how military works on the first place. General Zaluzhnyi is the Ukraine military commander, he is the one who makes military personnel decisions, and all Ukrainians trust and support him.

  • "Fired" and "relieved of duty" essentially mean different things, though when you're firing someone, you're also relieving them of duty. "Relieved of duty" means that person is no longer on the job. It can be for cause, for violating some kind of oath or regulation, or it can be routine, such as leaving a command after an assignment or even departing a guard post at the end of shift when the next guard takes over. During the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the senior US General in the middle east was "relieved" nine times, generally (hah!) every 2-3 years. "Fired" has a negative connotation and means someone was removed from their position suddenly, abruptly, not as part of a scheduled rotation. You don't "fire" someone who has been doing a good job but is starting to burn out, you "reassign" them. When a military officer is "fired," that means the senior commander or authority has removed them because of something wrong, usually some kind of wrong-doing or serious accusation of wrong-doing on the part of the fired commander/officer. Said officer is usually replaced unceremoniously, whereas a normal rotation or reassignment generally has the incoming and outgoing officers doing a turnover and possibly a brief (or not) ceremony (called a "Change of Command").

  • There are other airframes that would be better suited for Ukraine than F-16's or anything in the U.S. inventory. The consensus of qualified experts points to the Swedish Gripen. It was designed from the beginning to operate under adverse conditions with a minimal support crew of personnel. It is able to operate from remote areas without dedicated runways.

    @Buzzdog1971@Buzzdog1971 Жыл бұрын
    • And a grippen is way easier to maintain and to train people to maintain. Not to mention it reduces the chances of a NATO aircraft mistakenly being targeted or of the Russians thinking that NATO aircraft are operating against them.

How long would F-16's be operational with FOD. F-16's have to operate from large fixed airfields. I am not saying that Ukraine is not in need of modern airframes to conduct combined arms operations. I am saying there is a much better tool to give them that capability. The Gripen was designed to defend Sweden from an attack from Russia. It is hands down the best option.

      @Buzzdog1971@Buzzdog1971 Жыл бұрын
    • Agreed on the notable advantages of the gripen only caveat as one mentions in this thread, gripen does not have even remotely the production at scale the F16 does, oddly enough it means that even with being much more in need of fixed airfields and higher general maintenance, the specialists and technicians that would be training Ukrainian crews are not only highly experienced given the time of service of the airframethey are also in many more countries that can train Ukrainians in aircraft maintenance not limited mostly to Sweden. Most of NATO flies and knows how to upkeep F16. Also fuel capacity wise the gripen in on par with F16 which is to say I wish it had just a bit more legs. Still one of my favorite aircraft, I mean look at it, it's f*cking beautiful!

    • What gets lost in the fighter jet discussion is the structure of using those jets. One of the embarrassing factors that has crippled Russia this past year is they never managed to Win The Skies. No one controls the skies over Ukraine. Shooting down jets with man portable munitions is a much bigger loss than taking out a tank the same way. Study how the US/NATO would prosecute air operations. The fighters are a small slice of concept. You have radar jamming, AWACs observation, A-10s, etc. all in conjunction with coordinated ground operations. (I can't speak fluently on it, but YT has some great videos on just how complex a force it takes to blind and neuter the enemy prior to the fighters entering combat.) Ukraine will only be capable of that as a NATO member. And think of the logistical tail. This whole Western support operation still has to pass through the constraint that Ukraine does not have the same gauge railroads as its Western neighbors. Trains have to be reconfigured to travel between countries. There are more reasons, too. I used to support the idea of having Ukrainians get training on equipment not yet promised to it, but I can see critical flaws in that now.

  • I keep hearing that some of the top Ukrainian generals are old school meaning that they use old Soviet tactics which should have been rejected by now So probably better late than never but I am guessing should have been done earlier as UAF command remains too top heavy but again just guessing pretty much in the dark

This against the known fact that since Russia retreated from Kherson , theRussians been on the offensive right across the line of contact gaining ground everyday since. Any mention of stalemate on the battlefield was only in the media.

    • This is a concerted offensive by Russia, it won't last that long. If you haven't noticed yet Putin has waves of offense followed by LONG periods of retreating and under provisioned troops. You can always tell when an order is finally delivered from their factories or from other countries, because they start bombing and gaining ground. Then that order runs out and they are stuck retreating and being under provisioned again. What little ground they gain will be taken back just as quick and with little to no effort.

    • Remember that when the F-16 was developed it took several years before they were routinely used. It is not just having the plane, or even having the logistics, spare parts and technicians to service it. The F-16 is a multi-role fighter - that is different than the limited role fighters Ukraine and Russia uses - and it takes a while to learn to use all the features, to learn the tactics to be effective, and to understand the operational doctrine to be optimal - years not months. This is not like putting down an AK-47 and using a different rifle. Air power is more complex.
