Even if Russia "loses" the war, there's just no way Ukraine will get its territories back. How much more are they willing to lose before coming to their senses? To be fair, the intervention in Hungary in 1956 was by the USSR including Ukraine and not simply Russia

To be entirely fair: the decision about it was made in Moscow and not in Kiev. USSR was a name given to the Russian Empire by Lenin after the Revolution. Neither Kiev (or Baku, or Tibilisi or Erevan or, or, or were involved in decision making. So to blame Ukrainians for the Soviet invasion is funny.

In fact Russian(ism) was the most harrased people, logically as a Russian patriotism would pose a bigger threat because of size and having a historical right (Ukraine wasnt really a thing, so the national romanticism and culture did pose a threat) - in fact Soviets endorsed Ukranian "awekaning" in campaigns etc. Blaming the partaking people, the ideology, but not an ethnic group or "nation" because there were none. Despite the Hungarophobia in Ukranian peoples (unlike among Russians or any other group, because of Bandera earlier and being the most chauvinistic group within the system), it was however not by their own volition but because of strategic reasons (Ukraine was closer among other things). However, neither Russia or the Ukraine are to blame for it. Not only because they only existed as states on paper, but the communist ideology and imperialism is. I just wanted to level out the playing field, because blaming Russia and Russians has taken root, when its entirely false.

I remember back in 2015 millions of Syrian migrants went to Hungary and Orban rightfully said that Hungary can't host them but they're free to go elsewhere. The mainstream media immediately labelled him as a 'racist' & 'authoritarian'. Eventually the migrants went to Germany and Orban ensured that Hungary's borders remained secure. He's one of the few remaining leaders in Europe with some common sense.

If Biden wanted to prevent this war then he would've told Ukraine to either implement the Minsk Agreement or grant Eastern Ukraine independence from Ukraine. Besides the US back the coup which took place in 2014, after which the Russian population was actively discriminated against and harmed in many ways.

I knew Hungarians living in the Western Ukraine. In the late 90s and early 00s they were regularly attacked by Ukrainian nationalists, many were forced to denounce their heritage and language. Don't let the propaganda fool you, it's not GOOD vs EVIL.

Hungary has called for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine several times, mainly ignored in the media, even offered Budapest for the place to do so. Mainstream media mostly ignored the news. Turkey did the same thing several times, again everyone ignored it. Instead both countries are attacked and smeared over and over again for doing such a thing.

Yes, there were peace initiatives both from Hungary and Turkey. Do you know in details what they proposed ?? NO. This is the one of the uncertainties we encounter. Russia didn't ignore above peace proposals saying openly that they were ready for negotiations. Kiev rejected any peace talks. In this situation what kind of talks are possible ?

After that Crimea and the region of Donbass (ethnically Russian) officially turned to Putin for protection. Crimea was lucky and, hope, will stay peaceful. At the point the Russians invaded, this conflict had been going on for 8 years and some 14, 000 people, thousands of them civilians, had already died. It might be refreshing to hear some of that background if you're trying to understand how things have reached this pass.

And I am sorry for all those Hungarians, who want better and live in freedom. Of course I have nothing against them. But seeing how country, which should have learned from history, is flirting with the bully, makes me angry. Only way to save Ukrainian people is to make this war stop, and Russia listens only force. Hungary must choose its side, and it looks like it has done it. What a waste.
Russia is not the Soviet Union. So the whole argument to conflate the USSR's invasion of Hungary in 1956 as the same as Russia's invasion of Ukraine, does not hold water.

The point I'm trying to make is the USSR does not exist anymore and neither do the Eastern Communist Block states. Thus, the geopolitical landscape is alot different now compared to Cold War.

Hungary has had already many Russian liberations: 1849, 1945, 1956. What is the experience of these Russian actions? The experience is that Russians do not care how many people die - because Russians are much more than Hungarians. .. In 1956 about 4 thousand Hungarians died - 400 Hungarians were executed. We Hungarians feel - this was too many people. .. We should have avoided this - as the Chechs did in 1968. Because a small country does not have chance to win against the USSR. .. I just admire and love Victor Orbán. Greetings from Finland. We, people here, are not enemy of Russia ... not at all. We love Russians and their culture which is part of our culture and religion.
Orbán wants peace because he made the deal of the century with Putin, since 2013 gas and electricity were the cheapest in Hungary, people with families in one household paid $15-20 per month for energy in total. Multi companies also loved it because they paid pennies and even received state funds to come to Hungary, life was simply bubbly and the economy strengthened. That is why Orbán is talking about peace, energy prices have run wild, inflation is at its peak, and his power is in danger.

Trouble with Orban's position is that it is apparent that only one side (Ukraine) and it's supporters (excluding Orban) even take into account life and death in policy making. Putin's regime couldn't care less about how many live or die. The only thing that matters is retaining their power and wealth. Let's be real.
If you consider NATO countries' politicians as Ukraine's supporters, I wouldn't say they take human lives into consideration when looking at all previous war conflicts caused by their policies and number of deaths it caused (Iraq, Yugoslavia, Libya, Syria). The reason they position themselves as those who care is just because its beneficial to weaken Russia by using other country's troops for free.

Perhaps the best course of action is to propose a ceasefire to the UN, although it may be a useless effort as Russia is likely to wield its veto power to annul such a resolution. However, this will project an image that not only the USA behaves like a jerk in the world by opposing a ceasefire, but Russia as well.
