Here is another Sweet Jane I recorded kzhead.info/sun/ppGhe9Wyo4qugGw/bejne.html
Come on you should have said this was a cover, and not a good one at that!!!
@@alainlaverdure1674 sorry you did not like it. Were you expecting Velvet Underground if a cover disclaimer was needed?
I prefer this studio version, without all the noodling on superfluous instruments. kzhead.info/sun/ecVynrJrfmR5hp8/bejne.html
@@alainlaverdure1674 If it's good enough for Lou Reed himself, it should be good enough for you. This cover is rich and haunting. "Reed himself called the Canadian band’s 1988 version “the best and most authentic version I have ever heard.” It’s a funny word, “authentic,” considering the feel of their version was far from the rockin’ version of Reed’s Underground original. But it’s hard to disagree with him. While the song has been covered by countless artists, from Mott the Hoople to Liz Phair, Gang of Four to R.E.M. to Phish, the Cowboy Junkies give it a romance-in-the-stars lifeblood never before heard in those three simple chords. It’s hushed, tender, angelic and simply gorgeous. It’s where the heart overtakes the mind."
@@bugpalThere's plenty of room for both versions (BTW, the "rocking version" was NOT Velvet underground, but Reed solo - see the incredible live album, Rock & Roll Animal). The original version by VU was actually not far from THIS version, but released while VU were still together. That said, while this particular version is definitely beautiful, it pales next to the sparsity of their studio version. I think it would've been better if they hadn't added the accordion.
I'm 76 years old and have watched this cover hundreds (thousands?) of times, starting with its original broadcast in 1989. That means I've been in love with Margo Timmins about half of my life!
Metoo
Margo timmins
you and millions of others
Way cool. 😎🎵
Oof, seen her lately. Not as bad as Jamie Lee Curtis, but hitting the wall and hard.
You could take me back to 1989 and leave me there and I'd like it just fine.
89 was full on. Almost killed me!
Playing Metroid on Nintendo, poster of a Ferrari, drinking Pepsi with a twizzler for a straw
The camera loved her that night as she dropped the best cover of that song ever.
She turned a song about NY bohemians into a song about girls but it's about love and anyone who's had a heart loves love and who couldn't help but fall in love with sweet Jane.
The Camera loved Margo all the time
The camera had good taste …
No auto tune just beautiful voice backed by real musicians.
It really makes you wonder what it would sound like if she ever let loose and let it rip, and yet the whole genius is the restraint. This is and always will be truly timeless.
I love how she sings...but very valid question
The do that on some live shows
Saw them recently - they started with Bowie's 5 Years and took the roof off! I was rocked back into my seat, didn't expect such power from her.
@@tynebar saw them late last year, murder in the trailer park was outstanding
-Come over and see ‘everybody worth a damn supports Amber Heard’
Good Lord that is a great cover and she is crazy beautiful!
Actually... seems shes had a stick up her rear since they first surfaced with this debut... which I had purchased at the time.
Damn right she is.
Mid
She was beyond gorgeous. And that voice!
That subtle smile says it all. Confidence and enjoyment of the moment, beautifully captured for all time.
Her voice is just...... No words... Never ever anyone sang so beautifully "na na na naaa naaaa naaaaaa naaaa"
What are you deaf
Damn, I think this lady could sing a phone book & it would still sound awesome!!!
she's a big fan of Patsy Cline
What is a phone book
loved the Junkies, their Misguided Angel is the one that did for me, hit me solid at the time, I was 21 and going from my solo James Dean around town life to marriage and a factory job, nothing has ever been the same since, like Springsteen song The River, I spent all the time since those days reeling and loosing, or so it seems, but I rarely allow myself the melancholy, but when I listen to certain songs and bands they take me back to another time and place, one in which I often wish I could stay.
Angel Mine is sublime.
To this day, may 24, 2023, I still get goose bumps at the "la la" part
Me too
Yep
See ...you don't need auto-tune when you have actual talent.
why are peeps over the age of 40 so obsessed with creating a binary between when a single editing tool existed, before and after? it's like on every single video from VHS or whatever, someone's gonna make some arbitrary boomer remark about auto-tune being the fall of musical civilization. much more important would be the telecommunications act of 1996, which changed privatized radio forever and made it safe, bought homogenized bullcrap, and the advent of digital workstations in general. much bigger factors in music changing. auto-tune is hardly even used in obvious ways anymore by music that means anything to anyone, except for very subtle pitch correction. big effing whoop. not the separator of good and evil, musically speaking.
its still fun when you do have talent
Found the autotune person! There's one in every video performance lol
@@DanielBoonelight wrong .auto tune has ruined popular music .the end
Quit being raycist
Can I be blamed for having a crush on her, back there? I guess I was not the only one. Angelic voice and a mindblowing beautiful woman. Oh my gosh...
Amazing. Margo Timmons has a special presence and amazing voice.
What a wonderful world we had back then.
Well said!
Waddya think actual cowboy junkies are up to? What had Japan and OPEC just done to the good ol U$A a few years before? Who was U$A prez then? What had just been decided about immigration? What had U$A spooks been up to? What was Halliburton doing in Iran? U$A mortgage rates = 1989, 10.25% ; 1988, 10.38% ; 1987, 10.40% ; 1986, 10.39%.
MO! FO! I'm tired of us getting older and things changing! At least we have every great song ever, available on the internet. Check out Fred Neil
Wonderful cover. She has that heavenly voice and the backup is so tight with the accordian and slides.
I can understand that Lou Reed appreciated that version. Excellent! ❤️
hahaha you can understand... as though you're just like Lou Reed and have written many songs, been famous, and other want to emulate your work... get over yourself there Princess you haven'ta clue

@@slowery43 Don’t forget to take your pills, grandpa
@@slowery43 It's a pity your grumpy mood was not affected by this beautiful song.
What a gorgeous voice. Perfect song for that voice.
I played this on the radio repeatedly as an 80’s southern Oklahoman DJ. Great band
Nothing but phony country music in that area now
My favorite Lou Reed song and I completely agree. Hauntingly beautiful
Frigging amazing to realize that Johnny was still on when the Junkies came out! Margo used to walk into the audience after shows and shake hands and verify that she was real Decent talented beauty, she.
Simply perfection on so many levels...what a piece of pure awesomeness...!
I had the pleasure of seeing them with John Prine at the Greek theater in Berkeley in I think it was 94. Great show!
I was 17 years old when I first heard the Cowboy Junkies in 1989... instantly fell in love with their music. I listened to this album over and over and over and over again... I can't believe I have never heard this live performance before today in 2023... Exceptional. Just beautiful. "That has a nice quality."
Wow, I was 17 when I saw "Natural Born Killers" and heard it for the first time
I was 18 in 1989 and also fell for the song.
@@tzt1182 good memories
Damn, what a fantastic voice. Beautiful song.
A beautifully performed song! I had no idea.
Wow! It is quite beautiful!!! The guy on the Slide Guitar.... And, her harmony with it... Heaven.....

The best cover version of this song.
I’ve loved this rendition for so many years. Their live album was/is killer!! No doubt first heard on Cleveland college radio 😎👍 JT: Orlando FLA
What an ethereal version of the song. Just beautiful and haunting. Thank you so much, Cowboy Junkies of Canada. 🇨🇦 Thank you so much, Cleveland Live Music. 👌🏻😊
Thank you Mark!
Such apt adjectives to describe this version of the song. Margot Timmins vocals were certainly haunting and ethereal and the whole arrangement and performance of the band was beautiful.
The entire album is heavenly.
i missed the fierce guitar[velvet underground] but this rendition is beautuful
you know the two songs don't have the same lyrics?
she got even more beautiful as she aged........one of a kind vocalist
Amazingly enough you are correct, check out the recent live version, she's even more beautiful now, listen to "Helpless" from the recent show
@@lancer9339 No, she's not. Here, in her youth, vibrate, clean, innocent, and charming is when she was at her best.
I bought this album because of this performance. I didn't sleep very well for the next few nights with Margo floating around inside my heady dreams.
I loved the album this is featured on right away. Then, soon after, both of my children were born to it. I thought the restrained vibe would be calming. My wife has no recollection of it, but I really enjoyed listening to it both times. And, it probably calmed me in the end.
Great! Such a lovely voice.
Wow! A heavenly voice. Love this song, thanks for the upload. A reason to subscribe to this channe.
Fantastic cover of an already great tune.
I had a 5-disc CD changer back in the day, and this album (Trinity Sessions) had a permanent residence. BTW, one of the best makeout albums ever 🙂
Oh, man. Back in the 90s my little brother said the phrase “make-out sesh”. My other brother and I would always say, “Where are you coming from, a sweet make out sesh?” Or any number of variations. Hahaha, still to this day make fun of him for it. We’re in our 40s now. Man, I miss the 90s. People make fun of me for being right wing, they always say I want to go back to the fifties. No, I want to go back to the 90s.
Cowboy Junkies was my and my now ex-wife's every hookup night soundtrack in college back in '95-'96. This brings back memories!
Nobody needs to hear about you and your cousin.
@@smelltheglove2038 Cars, music, and women. The 90’s were peak in a lot of ways
awesome....almost hypnotic
Dayng! They KILLED it on his show! LOved her facial expressions and movements! Thanks for posting!
To add to my earlier comment, I really like the song and the band performance. They play really well together. They have an eccentric look with a little bit of mystery. They remind me of certain musicians of the late 60s and 70s like Fairport Convention and other folk rock bands. Each member and performer are artists. Interpretations of their work and art is often only left up to us.
Part of the sound track of my university days
When I listen and watch this elegant woman move as she sings, I'm reminded of a Theodore Roethke poem: I knew a woman, lovely in her bones, When small birds sighed, she would sigh back at them; Ah, when she moved, she moved more ways than one: The shapes a bright container can contain!
The definition of a crooked smile. Lovely.
always loved the CJ's bbut never saw this, or many videos from that time, thanks for posting
Just beautiful
Wow, she's as beautiful as her voice. And of course all the artists sound great.
My favorite cover of Lou's classic, as well. Pretty Girl, Pretty Voice. Unbeatable combo!
Beautiful!!! The Cowboy Junkies have been 1 of my number 1 bands for many, many years!!! The album Trinity Session is my all time favorite! To this day I enjoy their music often! I've never seen them live. One day I still hope to do so ❤
Haunting and still beautiful.
Always amazing. I’ve never heard a performance. It wasn’t in the opera salon. Nice job he is a great.
Great song by Lou reed, great interpretation by the CJs
I've always loved this version and the tone I can't believe it's just can't believe 1989 many years it can go another many years this is just superb ...
Yes I saw the Cowboy Junkies in concert. They were amazing.
I agree...taped this from the front row kzhead.info/sun/lbmuj9WZrHh3nnA/bejne.html
4 times...😁
Johnny Carson was known as the King of Late Night. Part of his success, of course, stemmed from the wide array of musical acts that debuted on the Tonight Show during the many years the program was his. This performance by the Cowboy Junkies was certainly impactful. I've listened to them perform this song for hours on end, on repeat. Sometimes a song hits me like that, where I just can't get enough of it. This is beautiful music.
Great song ❤️😍
Margo voice is one of my favorite female voices. The band is awesome as well.
Thank you for the context sir.
Thank you for watching
Well done live music 😎
They were such a good band. I remember first discovering them in the 80's. Good music and good memories. Though they wrote many good original songs, it's weird for Johnny Carson to say they were "original" just prior to them playing a cover.
I thought the same thing.
The Cowboy Junkies had an incredibly unique sound. Carson was simply regurgitating what countless critics had said. Lou Reed, who wrote the song, thought their version sounded unique and original. It wasn’t weird, it’s weird the two of you were too simple to understand that playing a cover doesn’t make you unoriginal, ya rubes.
@@elena7069 They had, no doubt, a unique and original sound as a band. I still have the original vinyl I bought from back then. What I think about what Johnny Carson said, and what I still think and value in this band, are 2 entirely different things. To lump the 2 together is just silly and quite a reach. Nice try though. Seems as though an imaginary chord was struck in you to make that response to my comment. Glad you got that off your chest. I hope you feel better. I really think you're making progress and I'm proud of you.
Will all due respect to Lou Reed, Margo & TCJ absolutely OWNED this song!!!
Omg! My first exposure to this song was mott the hoople, awesome loved it and still do. Then I heard the velvet underground version, holy crap! Even better! Now this, where the hell have I been. This was on Carson a couple years after I heard Lou's version. Small Town Indiana childhood restricts so many possibilities. The cowboy junkies have figured out this tune.
Check the live version I shot at Music Box Supper Club from the front table. Totally different arrangement
Listen to the entire album, "The Trinity Sessions" and then listen to "Trinity Revisited". So good.
makes me cry its so good
Got to see them live back in the day and got to meet Margo after the show. Great band live.
July 28, 2023 Listen to CJs alot. Luv them. Great video!
Lovely , wonderful rendition.
Margo Timmins voice is outstanding
ooh this is sweet. I love it👍
I love this🥰
Grande album, grande band, grande voce.
Fall in love with the first head nod and slight grin
Haunting. In my top 10. Her voice takes you somewhere magical. I love to listen to this rendition once I've numbed myself via (fill in the blank). Ache, tears, smiles.
Just hearing Caron say Cowboy Junkies - ahhh the world was changing.
Would have been great to see her and Lou Reed do this together.
Beautiful
Hypnotic !
She's some kind of lovely creature. The restraint by that group to play like this .... incredible. Intoxicating.
That voice. That hair.
Heavenly wine and roses seem to whisper to me when you smile.... this song it what got me hooked on VU and into so much more stuff
I could swear I heard them do this on Saturday Night Live.
Beautiful song.
That can't be a better compliment than the guy who wrote it Lou Reed say this is his favorite version it's mine too
The actual beginning of the 90's
That hair!! So beautiful
Their live versions are even better than their studio recording! The accordion and the lap steel complimented Margo Timmons' voice.
Well, the studio recording was basically a live recording, without an audience, minimal knob twiddling and straight off the floor, minimal miking. I think that's what got the attention in the first place.... The Trinity Sessions.
“Trinity Sessions” was essentially a live album without a live audience.
Nice cover... so easy to grab and move with.
Natural Born Killers movie comes to mind when I hear this song.
CSI Vegas episode is where I first heard this
WOW!!!
Great version...it put a whole different perspective on the song slowing it down 😊
Kind of funny that he says "best of all, original" as they are about to perform a cover. I love this version and Mott the Hoople's version too.
Very nice tune,with a sweet feeling😎
Phenomenal cover! Sexual restraint, perfect voice, watching over and over...ty...❤❤❤
Incredible!
The year Taylor Swift was BORN! They were here in my hometown in Canada. For a show. I met Michael Timmins (hunched over playing the guitaur there) and was talking to his sister Margo on the phone. I said to Margo they should come back in the summertime to go sailing. She said in that dreamy voice "oh, that would be wonderful". LOVE Cowboy Junkies!!!
I think they are the Timmins family that were my neighbors in Shilo Manitoba 1972 to 73.
remember first hearing their version on a French beach in 2005, St Malo, got mad sunburn that week.
This is an incredible cover. It never gets old and neither does Margot.
My favorite single album of all time.
This is freaking awesome! I've come to dislike vocal pyrotechnics for the most part, the "American Idol"-ling of song delivery. This is the perfect answer to that...
