It's All over Now Baby Blue - Marianne Faithfull | The Girl on a Motorcycle (1968)
Thank you very much for the 1M views! This video it's very special to me because it was made when I felt a great connection with the lyrics of the song for me this was made from the deepest part of my soul. This song defines what it's to feel lost, abandoned by the people you love and the moment when you discover that you are the only one in charge of your life. If you feel this way I want you to know you're not alone, you'll find your way someday, I'm still searching for it too...
XOXO

"It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" is a song written and performed by Bob Dylan and featured on his Bringing It All Back Home album, released on March 22, 1965, by Columbia Records (see 1965 in music). The song was recorded on January 15, 1965, with Dylan's acoustic guitar and harmonica and William E. Lee's bass guitar the only instrumentation. The lyrics were heavily influenced by Symbolist poetry and bid farewell to the titular "Baby Blue". There has been much speculation about the real life identity of "Baby Blue", with possibilities including Joan Baez, David Blue, Paul Clayton, Dylan's folk music audience, and even Dylan himself.
The Girl on a Motorcycle (French: La motocyclette) is a 1968 British-French erotic romantic drama film starring Alain Delon and Marianne Faithfull and featuring Roger Mutton, Marius Goring and Catherine Jourdan. It was listed to compete at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival but the festival was cancelled due to the May 1968 events in France. The Girl on a Motorcycle redefined the leather jacket for motorcyclists into a full body suit that Marianne Faithfull wore in the film.
The film was made on locations in France (including Haguenau), Germany (including Neulauterburg), Switzerland (including Geneva), and Belgium. The bookshop scenes were filmed at a bookshop in Geneva. In many of the scenes where Marianne Faithfull is seen driving the Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle at high speeds, she was seated on the motorcycle which was attached to a platform that was being pulled by a vehicle in front of it. Many of the scenes were filmed in the English language and then again in the French language. Cardiff received extensive cooperation from the police in blocking the roads, so many scenes show only the lone motorcycle and no other vehicular traffic. The "psychedelic" colour effects were achieved by solarizing the film during post-production.

You must leave now, take what you need, you think will last.
But whatever you wish to keep, you'd better grab it fast.
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun,
Crying like a fire in the sun.
Look out the saints are coming through
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense.
Take what you have gathered from coincidence.
The empty-handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets.
This sky, too, is folding under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
All your seasick sailors, they are rowing home.
Your empty-handed armies are all going home.
The lover who just walked out your door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor.
The carpet, too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
Leave your stepping stones behind you, something calls for you.
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you.
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore.
Strike another match, go start anew
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.
It was better being 20 in the 70's than being 70 in the 20's!
That's true!
God bless you. It's not over!
Wish I'd thought of that one - very, very true!!
I can't believe it because I have to ⏪ rewind 🩱🩲
Can relate to that statement
I haven't seen this in probably 45+ years, when I was a kid in the 70's. This was like opening a time capsule. Thank you.
I was a kid in the 60s, and I haven't see this since then either! She was absolutely lovely.
Thats youtube.
She certainly was beautiful. In tje.book she wrote, she said she fancied Keith Richards. He told her a little later that Mick really likes you! And she ended up with him. I love her voice and the bookbwas great, but l lost it!
Her deep tones are soooo beautiful. Insanely interesting voice!
interesting for sure
U like women with low voice, it's typical for supermen
Her old cigarette-stained voice these days is pretty fantastic too. I’m not cracking wise either, I love her recent records.
@@JonahsWail She and Nico are much appreciated in my house.
She’s basically a female Bob Dylan, voicewise. Or maybe Lou Reed
Beautiful woman Beautiful voice Beautiful version
And. She's riding a bike.
Beautiful era, long gone....

Recorded as her voice was changing. I love it. I love the sigh in the beginning. As if to say "well....here goes."
The older I get the more I like Bob Dylan songs. And this cover by Marianne.
I love most of her songs-covers, but I think Van Morrison with Them did the best cover of this.
@@robertwoodward9231The best!
Bob Dylan wrote songs that i never get tired of
This was one of my favorite Dylan songs. Marianne did a wonderful version of it.
Van Morrison with the Them did the best version.
@@leerichard4732 Bob Dylan did the best version.
@@leerichard4732 Yesterday, the guitar work on Them's version & Van's halting vocals creating rhythmic strangeness on their version came to my ears' mind, worming in. I was gonna have a listen on Utyoub but then it turned up as the end title song on an episode of a BBC sitcom, CUCKOO. Gorgeous sound, those guys. Anyway, I like Marianne's but I do agree.. Them's is the best cover version!

The girl on a motorcycle is a Phenomenal movie ! I got so exited when I watched it in my boyhood! Now I know what she was singing!! It was my hero BOB DYLAN’s song !!!
I find the 60’s the greatest decade of my life starting in 62
At 76 I still tear up at real 60's music.. In Canada.
Loser.
@@calvinsmart3471 Those time are long gone...makes me sad as well...but we have such beautiful music to put us right back there
I was 10 in '62 and paying close attention to music on the radio . I treasure how music takes me back to the great life in those days . We had a great thing being young in '62 . Girl bands ruled AM radio . Remember Bobby Boris Picket's Monster Mash ? I have the lyrics here in my 71 year old brain . Cheers , Vancouver Island Canada . ( I had a bonus in "62 . We moved to Southern California for 3 years . Surf , hot rods ,kissing through a whole Beatles 45 . haha )
I can't remember much of the 60's. : )
What a beautiful woman Marianne was. She had her own unique interpretations of songs.
Is, not was. She is still alive and well.
She was a true beauty.
@@WolfgangHolzmann Not so beautiful though.
Great singer even when her voice got 'rougher'. An absolute STUNNER too 👍
yep !
Even GREATER with rougher voice, re.her version of Working Class Hero !
Her porcelain looks are enough to launch a thousand ships and drive a million teenagers (like me when I first watched Girl on a Motorcycle) crazy!

I never knew she was so foxy in her days !
Wonderful deep voice of a very beautiful underated woran.
Underrated? She was very highly regarded and released multiple albums every decade including this one.
WOW.....One of the very best cover of Dylan's It's now Baby blue...Ive never seen this before...A hidden gem.
Not like Joan Baez's cover though, which is my favourite.
Yes agreed! So GLAD she drove in.. 👌
Van Morrison was always my favorite cover version, but this one is great too.
@@SparksofHell the Van sounds like JAGGER in that song, very different than this💎 which is AMAZING!
Anybody else here because they loved her with Metallica?
What a wonderful voice I love you Marianne, Saw you live in Toronto you were amazing
I am a 76 year old man. and very happy with my time here.
I had forgotten that as early as 1968, her waif-ish, ingenue-ish, innocent sensuality and gossamer voice were already beginning to give way to the world-weary ennui and lower pitched more smoky vocal tones. You can actually hear the promise of her later “Broken English” in this earlier Dylan cover.
Broken English is easily my favourite album of hers.
Yes! I agree with you and love her album Broken English. I met her in Chicago where she was to sign her autobio and bought a dozen copies of her book to give away to friends later and told her how much I always loved her voice and acting. She was so sweet.
Why'd she do what she did?
The movie was from 1968. The song though was a few years later. That is what makes the video for me-the juxtaposition of the early and later versions of Marianne combined. Both equally and forever beautiful.
I figured that she had destroyed her voice from smoking...
marriane..what a great voice..and a looker..i fancied you to the moon and back in the 60s
Can't say I blame ya lad

Hard to imagine a 25-year-old (or younger) singing like this. Special.
This version was recorded 1985… not that young
Just beautiful, great rendition of this superb tune.
Beautiful song.
In her later album Negative Capability she covers this song again and it's so richly poignant and touching. Her older voice and the tone of loss and life having made her re-recording of the song really something beautiful.
Graham Bonnet did this version. kzhead.info/sun/Zd6bnc6jrKhjh58/bejne.html I love how differently everyone interprets this song.

This is one of my favorite Dylan songs. My favorite version of it is the Byrd's version. This is good too.
Just so simple and perfect. Just laying there singing a beautiful song.

well darn me the film is here on yt for now anyways.
This really *is* about the most amazing coupling of a song and movie clips. Really, really nice!
One of my favourites written by the master of poetry Bob Dylan and sang by many.but have to say i love this version 👍💖
Best version ever,Dylan’s version is the worst ever.
Marianne always make other people songs her own with her unique take on each of course. This song and stones’ As tears go by for example.
Excellent example, especially since I'm not big on covers. 👍
Beautiful song, always and I love her voice. Sure do miss those times but so grateful to have had them be part of who I am.
So perfect!
Terrific version. As another said. Makes it her own song.
I think I've loved every version of this song that I've heard.
In the late '60s, Marianne Faithful and Alain Delon were arguably the most beautiful (wo)man on the planet.
Wow, she is amazing.
I love her voice
Never heard of her (millennial) but both this song and the video were well worth my time. Seeing the ashtrays on the diner tables or watching them have a cigarette in bed, and the palpable lack of smartphones (I program and I can't stand them), almost made me tear up with nostalgia.
Soooo well spoken!!
Never heard of her? Well, now that you have go listen to Broken English (album).
@@jipangoo I mentioned this somewhere else and got similar advice. Even before that yes - I had the opportunity to watch a reaction to Ballad of Lucy Jordan. Neat stuff.
Not everything was great, nostalgia ain’t what it used to be, but we’ve definitely lost a lot to progress. I was a kid when this was going on but I saw it in the 79s. I’ve been a techie most of my adult life, my world was been IT. But social media has been a disaster. Some good, sure, but on balance, most of us living inside our phones and the attention economy is poison. And here I am. Kinda proves the point.
@@julianmorrisco yeah I tend to take the tradeoffs view, the kind of thing John Gray often said about progress but which Mary Harrington has been saying a lot as well these days. On one hand our STEM related fields are doing great, medical is getting better, hopefully a lot of these life support industries like energy, medical, food supply, etc. are headed for an AI revolution, but we've also seen (Tristan Harris and Daniel Schmachtenberger nail this to the wall) that we are Darwinian and thus tribal critters and when you have algorithms set to milk our limbic systems it ends up being an ever-more-perfect outrage and limbic hijack generator for the advertisers to rake in the $$. Quite likely for as long as the human race goes along we and how we 'make names for ourselves' in the climbing game will always be the biggest challenge to our health, happiness, and survival and the structural existence of multipolar traps guarantees first defector advantage for any hole that isn't plugged with government regulation and stigma.
Love this version! And those low tones, pure sensual! What a beautiful bird!

Hi Estelle it's a terrific job with the editing and wonderful source material to make it. One thing I noticed was in a scene when Alain Delon was on the back of the motorcycle with Marianne at the front but all standing still we get a glimpse of the motorcycle badge and it says Norton. At 78 yrs of age, I remember those days..thank you beautiful Marianne for the joy and great songs of my childhood & youth.
Marianne Faithful once described her 1960's self as ' an angel with tits'. I doubt many men of her generation would disagree with that description.
Excellent version of a great song. Video is classy, too. Dylan is a master of creating an atmosphere that is so hard to grasp with the rational mind. To me, the ego realizing it can't succeed in having its way - it has to let go to make way for the original spirit-soul.
Dylan was brilliant but so was zebedee
Hear this version for the first time - what a ravishing beauty she was as a young girl - her voice nowadays is really haunting like a sweet portwine V.S.O.P....
Marianne makes a fair fist of this Dylan classic. I like it.

Hi Barbara. Was the 60's movie 'Girl on a Motorcycle' basically about freedom and equality for women albeit high lightening the dangers of too much freedom i.e drug abuse, unhappy marriage, unplanned pregnancy etc?> The Sixties looked such a happy time in England :)
Whoa, this is hands down the best version of this song! Thanks for sharing!

I like this version of the Dylan song, with its slower tempo and more disturbed, almost menacing quality to the vocals. It's definitely complex emotionally, and creates a different mood than in Dylan's version.
Dylan's " version"?
