Lyrics:
Anyone who's ever had a heart
Wouldn't turn around and break it
And anyone who's ever played a part
Wouldn't turn around and hate it
Sweet Jane, sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane
You're waiting for Jimmy down in the alley
Waiting there for him to come back home
Waiting down on the corner
And thinking of ways to get back home
Sweet Jane, sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane
Anyone who's ever had a dream
Anyone who's ever played a part
Anyone who's ever been lonely
And anyone who's ever split apart
Sweet Jane, sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane
Heavenly wine and roses
Seem to whisper to me when you smile
Heavenly wine and roses
Seem to whisper to me when you smile
La la la la, la la la...
Sweet Jane
Sweet, sweet Jane

#GANG
Had this track on a cassette tape back in Highschool in the 90s. Used to cruz around late at night driving my 1986 Fiero GT, letting my mind wander and contemplating my exit strategy out of the only town I had ever known. Now I would do anything to break back into that youthful existence…back to that same time and place…
Did you ever escape??? Finish the goddamn story man!!

Sensuous, mesmerizing, and haunting! One of the finest covers of any song
Absolutely, Does Lou Reed proud!

Like all good covers it's very different to the original - for one thing it's got completely different lyrics.
Bingo, Terry. Lou ought to rejoice at what she did with this song.

True, tho one car try: Real? Visceral? Ethereal? Soulful, graceful to a point of tears while maintaining composure by the same qualities? The more I've listened to them, the more I'm able to appreciate the beauty & greatness of these individuals through the brilliance of their bittersweet music. Perhaps what makes them so appealing & relatable to some is their music seems born of their own unique experience & struggle with life's familiar abyss of pain, human imperfection, frailty, & constant trial, which they've, nonetheless, overcome via sheer determination & will to succeed with the resulting extraordinarily blessed, unique artistic expression that is entirely their own. Some can't help but admire, champion the supreme underdog these cats truly are & so faithfully represent.
I love how quiet, and thoughtful this song is. Music doesn't have to be loud or aggressive to be great.
Hell I agree on that👍
Me too
Agreed.
That's for damn sure
Low-key, subtle magic is more powerful. It slips into your head, and heart, and gently takes up residence.
I was at a summer concert in Winter Park CO and I was walking around with a cool Cowboy Junkies T-shirt (brown t-shirt with big white block letters that said: COWBOY JUNKIES) on and a woman said "All right, a Cowboy Junkies fan." I turned around and I realized it was Margo the singer from Cowboy Junkies. I was like: "I am totally a Cowboy Junkies fan." She was happy that I knew who the band was because they were just getting national attention. She was just so casually naturally beautiful and friendly. I felt so good just standing next to her talking with her. And later on when the band took the stage they were most excellent.
I love these kinda stories... super cool your random run in with her!
@@tonipope3164 The T-shirt just said; "COWBOY JUNKIES. I used to get a lot of static for wearing the T-shirt because people didn't know that it was about a band. They thought I was making a statement about cowboy junkies like an early opoid crisis harbringer. So when I heard someone say: "Cowboy Junkies fan," I knew they were hip but I wasn't expecting it to be Margo."

Nostalgic
Same way I discovered Tracy Chapman fast car
I operated the camera for both this video and Fast Car for director Matt Mahurin. Every couple of years I watch this one and it brings me right back to the shoot. Margo is so hauntingly beautiful and has the voice of an angel, and the music is so perfect, subtle yet has such a powerful quiet build. I wish I had access to all of the footage because we did entire takes in close up, slowly dollying as Matt waved a light around to create his signature lighting style...I'd love to see those performances. I've worked thousands of days in this business since then, but that is one day I will never forget.
Margo's voice is like the dreamy serenading lullaby you never want to end. Her voice is magical
I'm totally agree with you!

It really defined a moment in a generation. If you were in your early 20s in the early 90s, this song was a part of your life. It is one of the few if only covers that can rival the original.

This was one of my mother's favorite bands. I miss my mother so much.
Knowing my mother is watching me keeps me in line and has probably kept me out of prison. When I had no wind in my sails listening to her music and seeing her pictures brought a waterfall of tears. @@spiderz81 If you ever hear birds singing, see kids playing and people scurry by, talking on a cell phone like you don't exist, you may feel isolated from the world. I did. It was tough to get moving in the morning but remember you're not alone. Some of us can empathize. Living in a haunted house made me realize that we don't have souls. WE ARE SOULS that travel in bodies like drivers in cars. That's not a joke. It was real. A foot on the gas pedal and a full tank of gas are a combination of motivation and ambition. Your tank is nearly empty but it will get refilled. The brakes are your self-control and the rear view mirror contains memories of what you've been through. The windshield is how we view situations we approach. Going through some nasty puddles can alter one's view of the world. Good wipers and enough fluid are like spiritual cleansing. Where the road ahead diverges are the choices we can make.

Same. I saw Natural Born Killers when it was in the theatres. Bought the soundtrack shortly after,. This and many other great tunes on the soundtrack.

I know this song from the film, Natural Born Killers. I grew up to this film, (don't judge me) is incredibly surreal and abstract. Written by Tarantino, actually about the mass murderer Starkweather and his girlfriend. Quentin has secretly been obsessed with this story(knowing the story and knowing his films will make that evident), but is also the first time woody Harrelson played a dark role. The reason the director picked woody is because of woody's past; the fact he grew up being raised by a father who made his money by being a hitman. Imagine that. The greatest stories are the ones never told... just hinted on by little remarks that go unnoticed. Like gems inside geods that go unbroken for thousands of years.
Her & Hope Sandoval from mazzy starr put me into a dream state every time. Hauntingly beautiful
The Trinity Session is one of the all-time greatest albums

This was my old college roommate and great friend Aaron's favorite band and song. The guy was an awesome human being, friendly to everyone, always happy, and had an innocent charm about him that lit up the room. He was on the water polo and swim team and was a trained lifeguard. Sadly he drowned trying to save a stranger who was drowning in a strong current in a river. It is really weird how several of my friends have died unexpectedly in accidents who were super happy and full of life while my most miserable friends are still around. It's like a cruel joke the universe places on people or maybe these people that died young are like dogs and give off enough shine and life to only be around for a little while while the others that live in misery have to redo their days over and over until they finally get it right.

90's always had the 60's vibe to me... a touch of hippies and open-minded music going on. The style even reverted to '60s in some instances. Great decades both, had their problems, but oh so much greatness. 50's, 70's and 90's best decades ever. many years ago, I said i will be at a time in my life where I'll give the Cowboy junkies the listen they need. Im at that point in my life, some thirty years later..... Shes got a fine voice
💕 😎🙏 Namaste
I’m at that point too. Sweet Jane called my name once again today, and I think she’s here to stay. ❤
Her singing, even the guy, Lou Reed, who wrote it, his jaw would drop in awe !
Driving a dark highway east of Dallas during the summer of 93, late at night with Trinity Sessions playing! Needless to say, surreal!
People in missing the 90's in 2021 is like missing the 80's in 2011, the 70's in 2001, the 60's in 1991, which is close to when this song came out
Back for more Sweet Jane. Can't get enough
I was living in Southern California, , it was the late '90s and I was driving home late one night trying to find a station that was worth listening to. I came across a station out of Mexico that played alternative music, and heard Sweet Jane for the first time. I had just discovered Cowboy Junkies and had only listened to Pale Sun Crescent Moon and I liked it, but Sweet Jane really blue me away.
Cant like this enough. When I'm feeling low and lonely she speaks to me deep in my soul
When I first heard this song in the 90's and realized it was a cover, I thought that it was the greatest cover for any song I'd ever heard. I still think it is.
Hazy Shade of Winter - The Bangles. Easily, the best cover version ever.
Heavenly widened roses seem to whisper to me, when you smile.
If Lou Reed said this was the best cover of his classic....who am I to disagree??.....I've been saying it for years!!
MOTT THE HOOPLE
If Lou Reed blessed off on it; that’s pretty much the end of it
@@dmcrun3572 he was jealous of MOTT THE HOOPLE...
