Lyrics:
I said "Mama, he's crazy and he scares me
But I want him by my side
Though he's wild and he's bad
And sometimes just plain mad
I need him to keep me satisfied"
I said "Papa, don't cry cause it's alright
And I see you in some of his ways
Though he might not give me the life that you wanted
I'll love him the rest of my days"
Misguided angel hangin' over me
Heart like a Gabriel, pure and white as ivory
Soul like a Lucifer, black and cold like a piece of lead
Misguided angel, love you 'til I'm dead
I said "Brother, you speak to me of passion
You said never to settle for nothing less
Well, it's in the way he walks
It's in the way he talks
His smile, his anger and his kisses"
I said "Sister, don't you understand?
He's all I ever wanted in a man
I'm tired of sittin' around the T.V. every night
Hoping I'm finding a Mr. Right"
Misguided angel hangin' over me
Heart like a Gabriel, pure and white as ivory
Soul like a Lucifer
Black and cold like a piece of lead
Misguided angel, love you 'til I'm dead
He says "Baby, don't listen to what they say
There comes a time when you have to break away"
He says "Baby there are things we all cling to all our life
It's time to let them go and become my wife"
Misguided angel hangin' over me
Heart like a Gabriel, pure and white as ivory
Soul like a Lucifer
Black and cold like a piece of lead
Misguided angel, love you 'til I'm dead
My husband of thirty four years past away May 20, 2018. He suffered for twenty years from advanced Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. He was a paraplegic when he past. I love him so and wear both of our wedding bands. This is my memorial song to my beloved husband.
I'm so sorry for your loss...
Very sorry for your loss, but you may want to listen to the lyrics more closely.
May he rest in peace...and may you remember the best memories.
So sorry for your loss. It brought tears to my eyes.
thats beautiful
The 'Trinity Session' is one of the Ten Best records ever made by any band.
A blast from the past; but yeah, I'll go with that. Partly a time, a place, people, a person.
And oh so clever! One mic in a church hall, with Margot Timmons’ beautiful voice of an Angel…✌️🇦🇺
Absolutely 💯
I love, and have loved Margo Timmins and the Cowboy Junkies from the moment I heard her voice.....have every thing they ever put out. THEY ARE JUST SO GODDAM SPECIAL, AND TOTALLY UNDERRATED!!!!!
Remember hearing this album for the first time in early 1989. Stopped me cold, arriving as it did at just the right moment in my life
Same. The most talented are so screwed over in thus realm.
I had a young bf in around '92 (I was 24, he was 19. SHOCKING! lol) and I put on The Trinity Sessions CD at my place. His comment was that it was "A seriously chilled-out disc" and definitely legendary. I can and do still listen to the whole thing.
Saw them in a little theater in Cleveland Ohio. One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen great band not enough recognition for sure.
I was born September 1985 Who knew that music was going to be the best part of Having been diagnosed with bipolar schizophrenia .. I was 3 when this came out... THANK you Cowboy Junkies for aLL misguided Angels
Still a classic, after all these decades...
Nice
I feckin loved this song. As a young 21yr old i walked round Paris for 5 days. I then saw them in Glasgow and Toronto x
wow a life well lived!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
LOVED this song when I was in high school in 1988. The lyrics are still as heartbreaking as ever. Love it!
Man I was in college radio when this came out! It blew all of us away when we learn they way they recorded this album, around in circles around one microphone in old Stone Church!
Class of 88...love it.
The story of this album, Trinity Sessions, is music recording legend. I still listen to it 30 years later and it brutalizes my emotions. It is the prototype for Alt-Country.
same
Me too ! My best friend Ronnie and I loved it .. he died overdose in 1992 .. way to young he loved this song about a boy Neil and I just Loved it .. I love this album
Right?! It absolutely knocked me when it came out. Musical perfection.
Absolutely 💯
Nobody covers Margot. It's one of the laws of physics that governs the universe.
Margo's voice is like a melodic angel, singing us to sleep on a warm, summer night!
Yeah Love listening to her
gosh can she ever sing. This is so much better than new music these days
Such a sad and tragic song. Masterful lyrics.
One of those bands that make be proud to be Canadian.
Neil Young, Cowboy Junkies, Leonard Cohen, Tragically Hip, and Rush.
My daughter was a misguided angel I miss her and love her forever...this song makes me think of her ...
😢

❤
My brother, too. Hugs to you. 😢 ❤️
I actually saw them in College back in 89 in Buffalo one night! The album has been out six months by then and it was almost magical when they sang this song!
This bridges the gap between country, bluegrass, and folk. Classic and timeless =]
I woke up this morning with the tune of Misguided Angel in my head. It took some caffeine to remember the name of the song and artist. First music today. One of my favorite songs.
lol I woke early today, open up my window, nice rainy morning, and I was debilitating between redbull/cigarette and a lemon water, then decided fck it I take sum redbull I open the fridge and this old good song pops into my head. :d is this a sign, am I on the wrong path? why what feels good, is wrong, oh my god😭😭😂 but imma be strong and listen to my intuition anyways and choose what I like rn, I also got 44 on my phone meaning angels number to listen to my intuition, imma drink some water later, "life is short, eat the cake first" ;))) ♠
Their music touches me to my soul, I love them. I saw them play in Edmonton and it was the greatest!!! Come back to Edmonton 😊
Heavenly! Margo is a misguided Angel! Melodies and voice are something marvellous !When High Music meets Poetry !!! A gem everybody should know!
God this is stunning What happened to music 😩
Music is doing just fine. Listen to Angel Olsen, Weyes Blood, countless others
Agreed. Though there are a few gems out there currently, they are few and far between.
Beautifully haunting
Any time I'm at the Eaton Centre, I poke my head out the door, look at the church where this was recorded, and think of this song. I think of how you can capture magic on a single microphone in a tiny church. How it can still move people decades later.
me too
Wow! You took me there in this message
I have and Do so much love this song the Voice... for decades ... I never before seen it Sang or the Singer... Such Beauty... REALLY Awesome.. ❤️
What energy and passion in her voice ....... 😆
A band that never sought the spotlight, so when one stumbles upon them, it's a real eye-opener. Love hearing them, like seeing their videos.
I thank my brother for this God Bless him he passed on only 10 weeks ago but told me about this band he heard in Canada years ago.!!!
This song is so good, it should be more well known.
I got turned on to the Junkies by way of Townes Van Zandt, but after this album, my wife of 31 years (now) and I are both junkies for the Junkies!!!
Funny a song can have such a power over us.
Classic and timeless =] Great uplifting tune for the day. Ageless classic [=. True country bluegrass blues.
Had to have coffee and jam out..this song has alot of memories..good and bad!! R.I.P. BEN
I just listened to this song for the first time in many years. The lyrics touch my heart strings. That's my man. And I love him.
I grew up on San Juan Island Washington and I had this tape in my Walkman as I road my triathlon bike over 24 miles a day in the Summer. That was over 30 years ago.
I said "Mama, he's crazy and he scares me But I want him by my side Though he's wild and he's bad And sometimes just plain mad I need him to keep me satisfied" I said "Papa, don't cry cause it's alright And I see you in some of his ways Though he might not give me the life that you wanted I'll love him the rest of my days" Misguided angel hangin' over me Heart like a Gabriel, pure and white as ivory Soul like a Lucifer, black and cold like a piece of lead Misguided angel, love you 'til I'm dead I said "Brother, you speak to me of passion You said never to settle for nothing less Well, it's in the way he walks, It's in the way he talks His smile, his anger and his kisses" I said "Sister, don't you understand? Thank you for this.
Thank you .
One of the most underrated song/video of the 1990s. Awesome song.
It came out in 1988 on the 'Trinity Sessions' album/CD. Great collection of tunes no matter what decade you're listening to it, 1980s, 1990s, 2000 or in 2019. :)
Justin Copple I was a Freshman in College when this album (the Trinity Sessions) came out! It really touched me and when I played it one evening in college radio class came in for over three hours wondering what band it was!
The Junkies best song, from their greatest album.
Agree!
@@crosslink1493 One of my favorite albums EVER. For me "Sweet Jane" is THE Cowboy Junkies song~ I love this one too, though the parallels with my own love can be...unsettling...
Let's be honest. This album goes through almost everything. If you give the whole album an honest listen, and don't get anything, you're already dead. That's not an insult. That's sympathy. I feel so bad for anyone who can't find something that they can relate to in this masterpiece. ✌🍻✌
Am I crazy for enjoying hearing the audible hiss on the stellar recording?
I saw them at Jannus Landing in maybe the late 80’s or early 90’s. Margo signed the back of my ticket after the show.💜
I saw Cowboy Junkies in a very small venue. They were great!
So did I when they played in Buffalo NYS!
So much love for so many years for this song. Never got to say thank you. Thank you.
Beautiful sultry velvet voice, lovely Tune
I love this song 🎵 ❤
My daughter was born as this track was playing…still play it often for her, she loves this song…
Love this group somehow when I got off the streets I ended up talking to them on line briefly ....wonder song
so powerful words, love the song.
Another perfect voice......backed with the best band....
There's something so eerie about the final line done a cappella. Prophetic.
42ayla I agree
42ayla think of beautiful angel by Bazzi & runaway by Kanye. Prophetic indeed
@@alison2161 Not artists I usually listen to but I checked out your suggestions. I can see what you mean, there are lots of songs that have that eerie kind of ending. I think that this one's different for me mainly for the subject matter and how desperate she sounds. I can almost here the 911 call that's coming in the not too distant future. It's sad being that desperate for love. Thanks for pointing me to those songs. I don't know if I'll listen to them again, but I enjoyed considering them.
@@42ayla it truly is a beautiful song. And like you say, last line suggests a tragedy to come. If I sing this at a gig I introduce it as the song you hope and pray your daughter never sings. Go well.
@@hehted Sometimes the misguided and beloved demonic angel can and does actually grow up. I am married to mine now, after he broke me jaw and almost drowned me, 35 years ago. I ran away from him numerous times, eventually married him- And am still in trauma counseling . It took him getting old before he grew up. A hard hard road, but I still remember how I felt about him at 24. There was never anyone else.
First you cry...then you weep...that's how good the Sessions are...
It is raw, hard emotion.. Beautiful
this beautiful song helped me grieve the loss of my ex husband; it explains so many relationships we experience as we make this life journey - we repeat our experiences as kids of course - it becomes clear when you get older. Thanks for this heart breaking but healing love song. Sometimes we don't choose with whom we fall in love - we fall in love to learn...but damn it's hard:)
I adore this. It is absolute Brilliance from everyone involved.
This song haunts me. I got drunk and missed the opportunity to meet this band . Keystone late 80s.
I did the same thing and missed (at different times) elton john, billy joel and kurt vonnegut oh well
Thank you Peter J Moore for having made this whole recording possible. Without your genius of how to work with sound, we all would not have this incredible recording to listen to
Andrew Riley wherever you are, I love you always and forever
Your music is so beautiful forever 😍❤
I worked on this video. The studio stuff was shot at 875 Eastern Ave Toronto.
Terrific lyrics by Michael and Margo Timmins......interpreted perfectly by Margo and the Junkies!!
This song has been going through my head for a couple of weeks. Not all the time but frequently when the din of modern life is squelched. Had to come find it, maybe after I listen to 3 or 4 takes it will leave me alone. Thanks for printing the lyrics.
Beautiful song. That being said, this man sounds like he's made of red flags.
Everything just unfolds.....no need to fight it....unless you really want to...🙏
I think it's about (just my take) how sometimes people can be different from how they seem
"The heart has its reasons, that reason knows not."
A person can be right for you without being good for you.
@@michaelstevenson470 that is one of the most profound and accurate things I've ever heard someone say... and somehow, I have never heard anyone else articulate it so succinctly. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard anyone else express it at all... and so many people feel exactly that.
I love you Steve...and Dony, And Ricky, and well there are others Misguided but others.
Though I'm ambivalent about how much this song reminds me of my fiance,' I love every song on this album. And want this one tonight. (5 am here; still dark.)
Beautiful Song, Beautiful Video
My wife for all our 15 years of marriage (I am a widower) we were both misguided angels.. Evil but good at the same breath..
This song is pure probably misguided empathy
As much as the tone is down it lifts me when I'm down
♠
As a toronto born songstress myself …. This entire album is very dear to me , and took a small place in defining my preferred style of writing . Thank you .
Wore this album out back in the day, first time seeing this video. Wow! 💔
You simply can’t top this. The Trinity sessions is a great album every song or winner.
Let's face it. The name Cowboy Junkies is clearly the best band name ever. Over the years i've heard many musicians say they wish they had come up the name first.
it's up there, but i still think ultimate spinach is a better band name
Along with 'Sonic Youth'.
great song Margo t beautiful straight up metal head here but looooove these great songs and memories ..and good music is good music...
lovely song
I paid $2.00 for this cd my wife wouldn’t let me play it because of the bands name, one evening I was playing blue moon when my wife came in from work she was stopped in her tracks who’s that singing oh that’s the CD you wouldn’t let me play because you didn’t like the name Cowboy Junkies
And now she won't give you the CD back?
Similar story. Working at a tiny restaurant in Provincetown, MA, where the kitchen music is piped to the dining area. Night shift always played a lot of hardcore punk. Day shift, and it was my turn to choose the music, so the older owner asked me what to put in, and I told her "10,000 Maniacs!" She yelled "NO no NO! I can't handle that screaming stuff!!!" I told her "Kay, TRUST ME." She loved it, thanked me, and bought CD.
that's such a cute story
One of my very favorites I got the cd stuck in my player and couldn’t use my radio I listened to this every single time I went to and from work or wherever I went it was on over and over for 2 years. I still love ❤️
Such soul music!
Thank you, Good Time for you, Fabulous and Fantastic MUSIC
Saw them in 1988 at The Mount Baker Theater 🎭 So long ago, that was a special time ❤
I think the "official video" might be missing a verse ("Sister, don't you understand...")
I rediscovered this song after looking thru some of my CDs. I can't stop listening to it!
Thanks for your music
"...so happy to find my Misguided Angel"♫
I married mine 😉
Love the opening
When I fell in love Travis the cowboy. Love till im dead. His smile and his kisses. Don't fall in love with a cowboy.
I recall back around 96 having a brief affair for 3days while at ICUEE show in Louisville Kentucky, while leaving the hotel to return to Denver she handed a tape of the Trinity session to me, said I was her misguided angel, my twenty hour drive in a large bucket truck never had the tape out of the player, misguided angel and 200 miles, her kisses haunt me as Margo's voice.
Gorgeous song and it hurts to hear it. Reminds me of him so much.
Perfect!
I presented this song for a class on Domestic Abuse cycles.
Exactly 😢
Beautiful.
I love this
Great album. Plus the awesome 80s perm!
Her hair was that way naturally.
I love the ambivelance of this song. I have no idea whether this guy is actually great or if he will be this woman's worst mistake ever, and for me that elevates the song.
he said, baby, don't listen to what they say, there comes a time when you have to break away.
"and I said Sister can't you understand?" My favorite verse is missing.
Maybe was it only included on the live version? It's my favorite too. I have the 'live' version on cd.
Adoro essa banda......e nunca tocou no Brasil....
Liking this video. ❤
Take me back!
WTAF how can this song possibly not have 100x more views than Cardi B? Something wrong with this world, I think I'm on the wrong one.
Apples and oranges man. Just enjoy it
IT'S UP SOMEWHERE ON KZhead WITH A COUPLE MILLION VIEWS AND 100000 LIKES
@@franciscociseragreco More like Chocolate Pudding or Poop :P
You got that right. A great author once wrote of the “great shift” that occurred years ago in that where once the majority of people were internally motivated has sadly shifted to the majority externally motivated.
No, its just a 30 year old song, enjoyed by people who need to work, raise kids and tend to their homes. Cardi B is on repeat play by teenyboppers who have tons of time and little responsibilities.
Linda
I love you TJB ♾
I remember this from Miami vice.
