Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but currently call Vietnam home. I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

Hi, from Vietnam with love ....kkk 🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳
My best ever bro Sonny you are the best lot of love your younger bro viki always waits for your episode 🍻🇺🇸
You gave the French guy a 40lbs fish and he only gave you 6oz of food haha.
And the price wà double!!!!!
At 10 times the price. I prefer the Vietnamese
And the Vietnamese gave you disentery lol
The fish that the chef didn't cook was Sonny's payment
@@jonmichaelmongas906 I thought the same thing. The chef made out either way. At his prices and still all that fish to sell. Great steal for the chef.
Ooh I like this series. Definitely enjoying seeing the comparisons between the different cuisines using the same protein. Would love to try those exotic foods some day.
Yes! I love to see the comparison especially with French it seems like an Exact Science, and is so amazing.
I don’t think he was was trying to compare. He was trying to gives different experience with the same main ingredient. That’s what Sonny said at the end of the video.
@@robertomonte1888 yes, I hear you and agree. However, when the caption reads ‘vs’ which means ‘versus’, thats usually means they are comparing the items, in this case how food is prepared. It’s a tit for tat.

Vietnam looks so beautiful, and the people are just as friendly.
I think the whoever did the background music for this episode needs more appreciation. Awesome 👌
The Vietnamese chef cooked the fish with bare minimum ingredients, that is also a skill. Putting mushrooms and loads of butter into anything will make it delicious.
Those dishes from the French chef are badass! Never even heard of glutinous young rice or hedgehog mushrooms. But have to admit the Vietnamese dishes made my mouth water...
Glutinous young rice (cốm) is a (seasonal) traditional ingredient in northern Vietnamese cuisine. It's quite delicious to eat raw, actually, before the rice hardens. But people do use them in a few dishes such as chả cốm, bánh cốm, etc.
Really enjoyed the comparison in cooking styles! Pretty cool and I would have loved to try them both. Thanks!
Everything that he ate alone is usually shared between the whole family. 🤣
he shares it afterwards with the crew :D

You are hilarious. Enjoy watching your show.
love these series! Weird but great. Amazing channel
I love how Sonny, up the "food review" game on KZhead. He started as a "usual food reviewer/adventurer" or whatever you called it, where he visited streetfood, restaurants, foodstalls, you-name-it, and gave comments about it. Now, he opened our mind that there are more "food programs" that he can offer. I know that some of the content format/structure may "copy" from other youtubers, (like BuzzFeed's Worth It), but he did not clam it to be original, and the way he delivered it gives it a different touch. So, kudos to Sonny and every single member of BEFRS! Stay safe, Healthy, and creative! I hope the situation gets better soon so that you guys can visit more cities, and more countries!
Absolutely Love watching Sonny and the blooper reels.
Found my new favorite since Andrew Zimmer! 👍🏻
2:05 - 2:10 That’s kind of a Sterling Archer moment Guys look! He’s networking! A bit of “Just pour then”
So hilarous when you compared the "chefs" and then showed a half naked man chopping up the fish 🤣🤣
Amazing culture Vietnamese, also as they cooking, but the French chef is just fabulous cook👌😋
Loved this episode.
Sunny: What is the challenge in using Cobia today? Chef: No challenge. I like that.
I love how the French chef thought about it for ages and was still like "shit is probably the best word for the smell. I want to give you a nicer word but id be lying"
wrrrrr, no thinkx orbest or etc, say any nmw s perfx
“Oilly, greasy, fatty. I know I'm describing myself”... I'm dead lmao 😂😂😂🤣
Props to your editor. I laughed to the "weeeee" when the fish thrown to water.
6:26, 🤣🤣🤣 THE FACT HE REPEATED IT LIKE HE KNEW WTF SHE SAID 😂. HILARIOUS
2:10 "Guys look, he's networking" That caught me off guard.
For french chef, he said "like there is no fish". but when he asked did u pour hot water to remove scales, he said, no to keep original flavor" See finally his dishes may taste good, but dominated by other things like 3 points he said, ants, mushrooms, pumpkin. He never spoke about taste of fish. Subliminally he is giving true verdict, even though he is praising french guy.
this is 1 of those channels that makes me happy to watch from beginning to end. If only I can taste
I'd love to see more of these comparisons.
Networking is your best joke yet.. I legit laughed for 5mins
bruh got me rolling
love the french cooking
so entertaining. thanks for the video
You're comparing a vietnamese house wife to a 5 star restaurant shef. That's so unfair bro😂. Love the episode though ❤
Agree! It's totally different
yes the french cook is at a massive disadvantage XD
I sort of wonder what gonna happen if a japanese chef cook that same fish.
True, and yet I would prefer the Vietnamese meal. The French meal looks very elegant and innovative, but all those techniques are geared towards masking the taste of the fish.
Some people have the privilege of choosing the parts of the animal/fish they want to eat and some can't afford to lose any :)
I bet that French chef threw out 90% of that fish; and Sonny paid 10x more to have it prepared.
Completely agree. This channel shows a lot of us what it takes to survive and not waste Anything!
@@taotzu1339 French chefs tend to be full of themselves (not saying they all are, but it's common). The French firmly believe their food is the best in the world, and I think they feel challenged by various Asian cuisines.
@@nahor88 french food aren't even better than italian food. Asian foods are the best. The reason why the french food seems better than vietnamese food in this video is because the vietnamese lady "chef" isn't exactly a trained chef, she was like the level of street hawker cook.
@@aaronaaron5861 Exactly! The French chef is a trained professional. The Vietnamese lady just cooks common meals for working men.

Extremely impressed with French technique on cooking the fish. I mean I'm Vietnamese so I'm get used to with regular Vietnamese cooking. So trying new ways to cook it very incredible 😊😄
Beautiful episode👌👌
I really love ur tv show period
The Vietnamese preparation was more home-y type cooking. And the french preparation was, as expected, something i cannot afford 😂
french gives you tiny food.
Cobia is probably my favorite fish to eat. We catch them in the Chesapeake Bay by sight casting with eels or jigs, One of my best friends is a Cobia specialist and Charter Captain. Its great as sashimi o r cooked. I either grill it or do a piccata with it. Also, lemon and capers or are a great combo.
Wow nice sharing I really enjoy watching this

I love the two version
That kind of fishing is really amazing. 😘😘😘
the french methods are very impressive have to say. it makes me craving for it. it's very different from the other method but certain things i love from the Asian ways to cook fish are missing from the western way to treat fish. i don't quite like this specific Vietnamese way to cook it but there are plenty of other ways to cook fish in Asia and i absolutely love em.

A chef god will not lose every single piece of the fish. Sanji:
Sunny swiftly glazed over exactly what that “green solution” was 🤔
What a smart move at end by not making comparison. Vietnamese foods are what you would probably called " working class" foods. Fast prep and no waste. Other one is a world class restaurant but it still comes down to ones root when it comes to taste. You are likely grown up in same enviroment and are likely to lean towards whats most familiar to you when it comes to taste.
