What's the BEST Spigen case for the iPhone XS and XS MAX? Tough vs Rugged vs Neo Hybrid vs Thin Fit
So Spigen made me a little sad with their iPhone XS lineup. They left out my favourite cases! BUT I'm still happy with the Spigen Tough Armor, Thin Fit 360 and the Neo Hybrid Crystal.
I’ll be honest with you, my opinion of Spigen when I first started reviewing cases wasn’t too high but as I’ve seen more cases than any normal human being ever should over the last few years, I’ve grown to appreciate Spigen’s products.

-Tough Armor-
This case is #8 on my Top 10 cases for the iPhone XS. Honestly, if you just need a good, tough case that will protect your iPhone from day-to-day mishaps, go with the Spigen Tough Armor.
-Rugged Armor-
I’ll be honest with you, I’ve grown fond of the Rugged Armor over the years. From my perspective, if you need a no-nonsense case, the Rugged Armor is a decent choice. It is a thicker than average TPU case that has enough texture that I won’t complain about it all the time BUT I feel that it could use a little more at times.
-Slim Armor CS-
The Slim Armor CS is an on-the-go wallet case that can fit 2 cards, 3 if you feel like fighting with your wallet case every time you use it. Now the word Slim is in the case name but it’s anything because it’s a wallet case.
-Thin Fit-
This is going to be a great case for those who don’t drop their iPhone’s much. The Thin Fit exposes the top and bottom of the iPhone so definitely get a screen protector with this case. The back of the Thin Fit is thinner which allows you to add one of Spigen’s QNMP magnets which adds magnetic mounting to the case BUT nullifies Qi-charging on the iPhones.
-Liquid Crystal-
This is one of the thinner cases on this list and is one of the better handling ones. Now there isn’t anything terribly special about the Liquid Crystal as it looks like your standard TPU sleeve.
-Liquid Air-
The Liquid Air is basically a Liquid Crystal that isn’t clear or a Rugged Armor that’s lost a few pounds. Personally, the Liquid Air is one of my least favourite Spigen cases.
-Neo Hybrid-
The Neo Hybrid was one of my favourite cases for the iPhone X’s but I’m not so sure with the iPhone XS’s. Why? Because the gunmetal grey case that I got didn’t come with a soft rubber coating. On the X versions, they did and that made a world of difference when it came to handling. It is honestly night and day for handling when it comes to that coating.
-Spigen Thin Fit 360-
This is one of my favourite cases. And one of the very few cases that can come close to offering 100% coverage for your iPhone. The fit of this product is just amazing. I’m personally not a clumsy person so I don’t need a lot of drop protection for my devices BUT I don’t like using my devices without any of protection. The Thin Fit 360 fits perfectly into how I use my iPhones.
-Neo Hybrid Crystal-
If you need a clear case, the Neo Hybrid Crystal should be one of the top cases you should consider. Why? Because of the polycarbonate back and bumper. Most clear cases are only TPU which doesn’t provide a lot rigidity when it comes to face first drop protection. As you can see, it is much harder to remove the corner off the Neo Hybrid Crystal.
-Ultra Hybrid-
The Ultra Hybrid is basically the combination of the edge of the Liquid Air and the back of the Neo Hybrid Crystal. I do think this is a good looking case, especially if you’re using a white or gold iPhone but the edges handle poorly because it’s the same materials as the Liquid Air. Why Spigen Why?

Great video! And I loved the fun panning shots you took of the various case models, especially the clear cases. On the Spigen (dot) com website, if you go to their About page, it says, "The word “Spigen” is a combination of two words: “spiegel,” which means mirror, and “gen,” which means genes." That doesn't tell me much, but another method to check the correct pronunciation is to find an official promo video or commercial that Spigen has produced for their products. Keep up the great work!

If u want a real tough case you go otter box defender or uag plasma series is what I had on my LG and it's a very good case... But the v40 is slim n light so why tf wld u add a bulky case to itake that away... I was really skeptical at first of how well the Spigen rugged armor could handle drops but my mind has been he's since I've dropped it many times without a incident

I was wondering what is the difference between the screen protector included in this box, and the other ones that Spigen sells? Asking because the screen protectors included with the Spigen Thin Fit 360 case say that it must only be used with this specific case.
Great video! Got my XS a few days ago and I roll with the Ultra Hybrid. Question: Does the Glass.tR EZ fit work with covers? Or will it lift off? The EZ fit isn’t available here in Denmark, so before I go and purchase one abroad, I’d like to know if it works with the cases.

I LOVE the glasTr screen protector. I have it on my old X and Xs Max, the new Xs Max version is way better. It’s super close fit, like impossible to detect unless you look close at the speaker. There’s zero gap with a case and thin enough to not bother you without as case. So happy with it. I also have the neo hybrid case and love the feel or it. Plus the blue/silver color looks great with the gold iPhone.
First of all thank you for the review, It is helpful, but I wanted to add a few points that could help. I would appreciate to see a type of each case showed within the video, so be able to understand clearly which one is being reviewed at which point. Also, as I want to make decision which case to buy, It would greatly help me to see some kind of table at the end which would summarize the pros/cons of each case and place them on the list in terms of handling/protection/weight ration... That way it could be more easily understood, as there are many types and its hard to remember which was what. Many thanks.

Will depend on the case. I think it will work with most.
In my experience, one of the best I had is the Spigen Rugged Armor without the stand. I tried UAG (breaks easily), Otterbox Commuter (too bulky), etc.
They got rid of the Commuter for the Xs's and made the Symmetry slimmer. The Defenders are still giant.
I think your saying the brand name correctly, I’ve never heard it pronounced the other way. Personally I’ve never owned or used one of these cases, recently ordered the rhino nx due to your video. My favorite case however is the UAG Monarch.
I really really liked the thin fit 360 for the iPhone Xs. But after a few months of use the places where the front binds with the back start breaking. On three points they have broken. Also the plastic around my on/off button broke.

8 Plus if you want to hold onto the Touch ID longer. FaceID isn't too bad once you get use to it...I personally prefer it over TouchID. My fingerprints last for a few days during the winter which means I have to constantly add new prints which got annoying. Doesn't happen with my face.

I also say Speegen although I can see why some folk would say Spygen, after all, it is an 'I'. lol. You need to ask Spigen how to pronounce it. Another great video and having watched till the end (poor Monty does not like bad language), thank you for the time you put into these videos. They certainly have helped me over the years :D

Do you know if the neo hybrid crystal has the soft coating on the bumper. I presume the gun metal does and the satin silver does not. But who knows what Spigen is doing now. The gun metal colours always had a soft coating to them and the satin silvers had an awful slippery feeling to them. I’m thinking about getting the neo hybrid crystal but I want one with the soft coating and feed back would be appreciated thanks

I own the Thin Fit and Thin Fit 360 for my Note 8. I personally like the Thin Fit for the Note 8 better then the one for iPhone xs, xs Max. It covers all the sides on the Note. Don't know why Spigen didn't do that with iPhones version. Thin Fit 360 looks good on both but I think it looks better on the Note 8. Love Spigen products as well. I sport their kickstand on both my cases too.

I like the new Defender series Pro from OtterBox.
It's a tank of a case.
Thin fit is for ppl who don't really drop their phone the tough armor is for those who abuse their phone & rough armor is the best mix of form fit and all over protection.. I've had UAG cases would cost upwards of $50 and I've been happy with them but this Spigen was only $15 and I've been very happy with it I've dropped my v40 probably ten times since I bought it in February.. my cat knock it off my second story window like 15 feet at least and it fell onto the concrete not one scratch scuff on the case but that's it
Using the OtterBox defender right now. Honestly I love it, it’s tough, grippy, and it’s an OtterBox!

Alicia Walmsley I like my defender pro. Love the protection it offers and the grip it offers. I try the OtterBox synergy but it wasn’t for me! Scratched way to easy. If the I phone wasn’t so slippery I would of loved to try case free!

I have the Slim Armor CS on my S10e. It's one of the best cases I have ever had. I always had spigen cases on my phones I had before. But having a little secret compartment on the back of your phone is just too good... My phone literally survived falling of my motorcycle at 30mph. If it wasn't for Spigen my phone would be dead as hell...
Slim Armor is ok. I like the TOugh Armor more but it has no wallet version.
Like the Neo Hybrid case but any case with the cut out for the Apple logo doesn’t get a look at.Not sure why but seems to cheapen it for me.

Hard plastic frame with rubber tray part.
The spigen X cases don’t fit my XS properly. The bigger camera causes fitment issues.

If you have one on one contact with spigen tell them to put a dust plug on the tough armor! What’s the point of a tough case if you have to worry about tough atmospheres
They had a Tough Armor Tech years ago with a dust plug...they discontinued it.

Spigen thin fit is not very nice at all the quality has gone down but I haven’t tried the 360 I may give that a try when my tempered glass screen protector needs to be replaced

You should check out Caseology, they were the brands that converted me from Spigen.
