Watch as Ottawa Senators defenceman Thomas Chabot heads to the locker room with an apparent injury after being hit from behind into the boards by Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny.

  • If you watch it in slow mo, you can clearly see that Konecny is lined up with his numbers starting at the faceoff circle, all the way up to the hit. The turn didn’t change his perspective whatsoever. He takes 2-3 strides and a full glide with the numbers in full view

    • Looked to me like he had him lined up for a hit on the numbers. 5 and an ejection and 2 game suspension. Same as Josh Anderson and Juraj Slafkovski.

  • Both parties are at fault. But if Chabot doesn’t turn last second he takes the hit from the side, not on the numbers.

I know he tried to cut back but he legitimately had no chance of avoiding that hit unless he stepped out of the way and just abandoned the puck

  • On one hand, TK has been playing a bit greasy all year so this is isn't surprising... But at the same time, you're in the NHL... you should have learned by now how to position yourself properly along the boards when anticipating a check...it ain't house league

  • When the refs miss a call this badly they should have to sit in the box for 2 minutes with a coffee and a sandwich to reboot their system. Like bro, you suck. Take a break and have a snack then get back out there. The league needs you fully functional. Take a second and recover, you need it fam.

One of the most basic fundamental skills taught by good coaches in minor hockey is never putting yourself in that position on the boards. Unfortunately there are coaches that teach kids to make this move to draw a penalty. What they don't tell the kids is how many kids end up in the hospital.

    • Man, he's got his back to konecny the whole time. That fault is on k, not Chabot. No last minute movement other than stopping up, but obviously konecny was going for the hit the whole way regardless.

    • @@moocherman8 No he doesn't, are you blind?? his side was to Konecny, and then .03 seconds before the hit takes place, he turns to his back.. Travis was already in motion on checking, and Chabot turns at a bad time. It should be a penalty, but not a damn suspension lol.

Delivering a legal check vs committing to an illegal check, despite seeing that the opposing player has been in a vulnerable position since the time you are above the dot is not only dangerous but absolutely suspendible.
