Crosby basically had nothing to lose since the game was already 5-0.
if you pissed off official, they will remember.. Crosby learned it early in his career as you probably know. So yes, you do have something to lose, big time, even if it's 5 - nothing.

Pure game management by Rank. The 10 min misconducts get both Anderson and Crosby out of a 5-0 game. If he gives them minors they both are back in the game and nothing good will come from that.

You see this kind of shove/cross-check dozens of times per game. Usually no penalty. Can’t see how Crosby would be slow to get up, unless the other skater hurt him or he was embellishing

I thought so at first, but watching it back it looks like he instinctively turtled because he saw the puck coming AND Durzi, and knew he was likely to get clipped. Looks like an instinctual thing to me... I'm not like a Pens / Crosby fan or anything, but yeah protecting himself like that turned out to be a smart move, it's hard to tell from the angle on the broadcast but looks like he got, or almost got kicked in the face there.

@@cambrowndrums You don't instinctively pull your legs up on a shin high shot....and no way that push would cause him to flop like a damn fish. Crosby is known for being strong on his feet (when he wants to be). Also, he is a known flopper.
If you played and were actually front of a shot and being pushed from behind you'd be surprised how fast and weird you can hit the ice on skates. The refs call shit one night and not the next. They really need to set a standard, not a guess from night to night

It's a crosscheck regardless and is a penalty. The collision is with 50 on the way down. No where for Crosby to go. Both getting 10 minutes is just silly. Neither did anything to warrant a game misconduct. They gave it just to keep things from getting ugly. Crosby did deserve the second one. You can't chase the ref.

That’s wasn’t a cross check, that was a “push, the arms didn’t extended until his hands were touching his back. And you have to be able to clear the front of the net, if you watch or play hockey you should know everything I’m saying is true.

What I do like about this clip is the fact that the announcer sounded really worried when he said ‘Is that Sid?’. First misconduct for Crosby too, not sure what happened here but that was not a fun game to watch as a Pens fan
The game was 5-0 and there was 10:14 left on the clock. Why sit in the box for 10:14? Lol. Savvy veteran move by Crosby, he knew what he was doing.

Why the hell did they send them to the rooms even before Crosby got the gamer? All that was called was misconducts. 10 minutes at 10:14 leaves an additional :14 for the guys to come back on the ice if there's a whistle.

Crosby has been extra pissy lately. Hit in front of net was a 2 minute penalty, which was called, nothing more. No reason to ignore the ref's instructions for 20 seconds and refuse to get off the ice.

The ref forgot to call the 2-min embellishment on Crosby. He put himself in harm's way on that one. I don't see where 44 deserved a 10-min misconduct unless something was said.

insane to me people can defend Crosby here, Anderson already had the penalty and Crosby chased him to the penalty box to chirp him, of course that's a misconduct, just let Anderson be escorted to the box and get your powerplay. well you are an absolute ______ on hockey. Doesn't matter if you get the penalty or not, the man with the "C" (Captain) goes to ask why? Most likely the ref isn't answering him which is wrong. And happens a lot, even the coaches complain about this. Refs ruin games on their own. This same ref makes many calls against Crosby in a split second and other games and players he lets things get way out of control. He is a ref that needs to be working the minors, He is so inconsistent, it's bad for the game. So many times talking to guys, that ref say after the game, Crosby was right, he knows the rule book too well. And the ref's emotions got in the way. Ref's don't like being shown up by players, but the really good players, Crosby, Ovi, Kane, have talked to the refs saying you know that isn't right? And that is when make up penalties are called. If these calls were a real call, then players like, Wilson, Marchand and Perry would never be able to play hockey or else a penalty would be called on them every time they step on the ice.
Crosby doesn't have a conversation with any ref he just whines and cries every time some breathes on him. Cry baby...lol

I think he stayed down because it looks like the Kings players skate might have hit Crosby in the side of the face or head. It wasn't a cross-check, however he was shoved down as the puck was being shot so maybe that's what Sid was taking exception to.

When you're shoved in the back with the stick,that's cross checking !! and to players it's the absolute worst thing to do. Its a respect for the rules no no.

Nah, that misconduct was bullshit. Sure, Crosby should have just accepted the 2 minutes Anderson got and moved on, but it didn't look like he was being particularly aggressive towards the ref. One of the jobs of a captain is to talk to the refs and get clarity on stuff. Those first misconducts were BS, and so was that second one. Players have been WAY worse towards the refs and not gotten a penalty. I'm a Kings fan, but I'm with Crosby on this one. The refs are so far up their own asses these days.

Every time I see Crosby standing up for himself because none of his teammate defends him, I think about Thanos' line "Fine, I'll do it myself". I feel like in other teams the best players are protected better, and it makes me wonder if other Pens have no character, or maybe Crosby doesn't want anyone else to wage his wars.

Because it was a 5-0 game. A player gets a penalty and then once the call is made there is a shoving match between two players. To avoid the game getting out of hand, the ref will just hand out two 10 min. misconducts to remove them from the game. Happens all the time.
I don't get why everyone takes this as more reasons to hate Sid. He was cross-checked into the skates of another Kings player, which could easily go poorly but their game was already lost. I don't blame him for being frustrated and vocal about it. Players do that all the time, but the second it's Crosby people use it as ammo to the "crybaby Crosby" mantra which is kind of bs. He's a passionate player, and a competitive guy that wants to win. I can easily understand why the dude's frustrated, and honestly, I'd probably react the exact same way. I can name a ton of other players that share Sid's nature like this, and lots of people love them for it but hate Sid in particular. It's kinda hypocritical but in the end I think it's all in good fun. Hate him if you want, but Sid will always be a favorite of mine (even if he's a little petty lol).

Crosby has more strength than me by far and that cross check would have moved me a couple inches, it wouldnt send me flying forward curled in a ball. He's way to good to resort to this kind of shit which is why I dont much care for him. Instead of standing his ground and making a play for the rebound, he flops gets up and makes a scene.
He's the only player that gets called a crybaby for complaining to the ref. Its literally his job as the captain. This was one of the worst officiated games all season.

One thing people dont realize about sid is, he knows that rule book inside out, tgars why he speaks up more to the refs, he knows when they are wrong. That's exactly what I was thinking. Refs are childish and hide behind their "power", they don't have to answer to anyone and they know it, they can just dole out punishments if you question it.
an explanation is not needed or warranted, especially after a misconduct. HE needed to go away. He chose poorly and got what he wanted.

The ref owes the penalty taker no explanation. If the Penguins want an answer, an alternate captain can come and ask the question. None did, so the ref went to the end to start play again. Sid chased him down the ice. The ref told him to get to the box. Sid didn't, so he gets another misconduct. Not sure what the ref did wrong in that sequence.

Crosby had no business going over to Anderson when he was on his way to the box. Words were probably exchanged to warrant the 10 minute misconducts and they were given to diffuse the situation. In my eyes the ref gave Crosby too much time before he gave him another one.

What is unbelievable was that the refs put up with it for as long as they did. Most players don't get to chase refs around after it was announced that his night was done. The refs could have called a bench minor for delay of game, not to mention how they didn't call him for his embellishment.

Garrett Rank (Ref and Amateur Golfer) has a vendetta against Sidney Crosby. Pretty sure this is the 2nd or 3rd game he either threw Sid out or gave him a misconduct.
The ref should get some kind of reprimand
I can't say if he has a vendetta, but I can say it wasn't a factor here. The Ref giving 10 minute misconducts to him AND Mikey Anderson was game management, end of story. Sid basically took a page from Pat Burns' book and made the Ref the enemy for team building purposes, and that got him the additional Game Misconduct.
It's not a vendetta. Rank just has the balls to stand up to Cindy and not put up with his bullshit and whining. He slewed Anderson and deserved that love pat.
