@@Psyshimmer The rules are the same whether tall or short. The problem with such tall players, or short players, is head contact is likely to be more frequent. But head contact itself is not actually illegal. Targeting (picking) the head is illegal. When hitting into the body head contact is considered incidental to delivering a full body check. The head can even be the principal point of contact and still be legal. There's no rule that tall players cannot deliver body checks on shorter players, the rules apply exactly same.

I grew up watching hockey in the late 80s and through the 90s, and it just boggles my mind how the current era of players have developed no instincts for taking care of themselves on the ice. So many of these guys skate around completely unaware of their surroundings. They're totally reliant on the officials and rules to keep them safe, and that's a dangerous situation.

Welcome to the playoffs. The Rangers have been on the opposing side lf this for years. Now they are dishing out the pain. 17-2-1 with Rempe in the line up. The English Premiere League is nice if you are a fan of less contact. Might want to check that out.
Once the league went to auto-icing, clubs don't practice icing touch-up drills enough. Dude had zero awareness and didn't even brace. That was absolutely not a penalty.

I'm a big Rangers fan and also a big van Riemsdyk family fan (James, Trevor, Brandon, neighbors). You can see Rempe's right elbow just a tad high into the helmet. He got a 4 game misconduct during the regular season for a very obvious elbow. Just keep the elbows down.
Since when is it a legal hit when one leaves his feet and takes his shoulder to the opponent's head??? There is no consistency in the NHL when it comes to this and other player safety rules. It seems like certain teams get away with things like this. 🤔

It was hip to the head, and that's legal since it was a lined up body check. Not Rempe's fault TVR bent over. Caps got the benefit of all the calls tonight, including this clean hit that was penalized. 6 penalties, all bs or ticky tack and you think the Rangers are getting away with something?

No it's not even close. Attendees was in complete control of his hits. When he played they were all legal. Rempe is almost completely out of control. The only similarity is guys get hurt by both players. Stevens hit to the upper chest, he didn't jump and elbow people in the head. As much as people think Stevens elbow people, it was on his follow through that it would come out. Rempe has his elbow out before the hit.

That's not charging, his feet were mostly on the ground throughout the entire sequence. Charging has to have a distinct jumping motion which is absent here. With majority of hits you can't help but get some form of air time due to the momentum change or other factors such as height difference.

I can live with the restraining fouls (hooking, holding, etc) being called less, but the player safety ones (boarding, hit to the head, etc) shouldn't be called any less in the playoffs than in the regular season. 2 weeks ago that would have been a 5 and a game.

Missed the first half of the game. Only seeing clips. This one and the Wilson invitation. Apparently Rempe was at the end of his shift when Wilson wanted him, but Rempe needs to answer that bell at some point. At the very least, a fourth liner is taking off a top six guy for at least 5 minutes.
I hope the guys are alright, obviously. Putting aside the guy getting hurt, there was not a thing wrong with that hit. The kid is almost 7 feet on skates. Rempes height is working against him on these board hits. He has to get so low to hit these guys that it always looks like he is jumping cause he has to get so low so he doesn't really hurt someone. Keep your head up, rempe did nothing wrong.

I don’t think that’s interference. Charging or boarding maybe. You can clearly see his feet off the ice in the slow motion replays as well as the four or five strides he took from the blue line to gain speed for the hit.
Skates were clearly on the ice during impact. Only left the ice on the follow through
@@Rpont63 If you read rule 42.1, there is no requirement for skates to leave the ice prior to impact for a charging penalty. When you see skates leave the ice from a jumping motion, it’s usually evidence that the player jumped into the hit. So whether skates leave the ice before or after impact is irrelevant. Besides, the four or fives strides he took to get to speed was sufficient enough for charging.

I think it was kind of funny that people are whining about Rempe elbowing van Riemsdyk in the head. It was his hip that caught the head, and you can't penalize a guy for being taller than everyone else, and you looking down. That being said, the officiating has been no better than pee wee parents reffing their own kids games.
I mean the guy is tall so anywhere he hits is going to be at somebody's head. It's not like he's skated hard from the blue line and then drilled him. He literally just got rid of the puck.

If you ever skated full speed and hit ANYTHING... you would know that the impact makes your feet come off of the ice
I think 2 for interference is fine. But definitely not dirty, and still a good hit, just a bit late.
its a contact sport, especialy at playoff time. Be aware of your surroundings. Caps play dirty all series. Whole team call rempe out just because of his size. Grown men are looking to fight this kid constantly then complain when he answers back on ice. Rempe did nothing different then anybody else. Its a young mans world.
